Maybe this was posted before and I missed it - no seats for students?

NO seats in the student section. Other than accomodations for the disabled, all other students will have to stand for the whole game.

I HATE that idea. If they just had the front part of the student section that way--great idea! The most diehard people will stand, and they should be up front. But no seats at all? You can't go sit down in a blowout or at halftime? You can just sit in the back and be more chill? Terrible idea.

I would not want to stand the whole game, but then again, I am not 18-21 anymore. I may have stood the whole game when I was that age for no reason at all.

Also, if I am not mistaken, that is not the whole student section, just that section right over the end zone.

I did like that idea in the video of the European standing zone where the seats can come down for other types of events.

You must have missed it.

Yes, it is the whole student section. Capacity is 2,000, almost 25% of the undergrad enrollment. I also have my doubts whether this will work. Time will tell.

You’re on the wrong board that’s why you missed it. Discussed on The Rock.

Also, your assumptions regarding the WW are incorrect.

We're NU - Randy Walker taught us that we're not going to win by doing the same thing as everyone else. I'm glad to see some bold thinking that challenges comfort zones. If students want to sit down at half time, they will find a way. But they might choose not to.

I bet the student section will be jam packed for the start of the game. Then the students will leave at halftime and never come back.

I saw an article the other day that said there will also be about 1000 regular seats for students who don’t want to stand on the wall seating.

Students can request a chair or a stool. You do not have to stand. That’s is what Pat Ryan said. It’s just the concept of making it user friendly to stand. If you saw the NU USC game the students were standing. We need to get the crowd going and create a home field advantage. We did it with Ryan arena. The whole is the study that found the average attendance at our home games. Get the crowd loud and have to use a silent count like other places.

Students will also have a special 5 dollar menu and a student lounge area in that part of the stadium. This was well thought out and a brilliant idea!

Who will fill it up when students are not on campus yet in 2027 first couple home games??
^ ^ This is not a new problem that comes with the new stadium.

I remember the 2016 Outback Bowl when we played Tennessee...had to stand the whole time. For me, it was annoying. For the Tennessee fans in my section it was a football game where of course you stand the whole time...even when you're beating us by almost 40.

There are lots of student sections where they stand for the whole game, and while I don't know for certain, I will assume there will be seated areas just outside the student section for those who want to take a break...but ideally we'll be playing competitive enough football where they won't want to leave and risk giving up their spot.

It's definitely a gamble, but I don't think *this* will be the reason students don't come or stay. I also think it syncs with the multiple comparisons I'm seeing to NRF and European football stadiums.

Shef, go read the thread on the Rock. Plenty of options for students to sit as well. This is a non-issue.
