You left some things unaddressed but it sounds like you do understand after all that our reputation is in shambles, so now you're arguing that of course it is. 🤷‍♂️

For the sake of argument, let's say our rep is in a shambles as you say. Then so what? What does it matter?

Intl relations is not a popularity contest.

Good reply and refs.

Questions: do you think these polls are valid - and do you think they matter? Afterall, China is conducting a genocide against Muslim Uyghurs, yet the Muslim country of Pakistan gives China a relatively high net approval.
These are highly reputable, apolitical organizations. So I’m decently confident the results are at least consistent across samples. Meaning any biases from respondents are at least consistent allowing us to make directional statements about changes in the trend.

Does it matter? That’s debatable. You make an absolutely valid point re: China. I would suggest it matters more in the long run than the immediate term. So the damage can also be undone with better policies coming from the Oval Office.

Man, I could write a book but do you think there are advantages to being an untrusted pariah nation?

Some consequences off the top of my head:
  • Our allies will diversify their partnerships with other countries which will lead to diplomatic, economic and security consequences for us if we're no longer seen as a trusted partner.
  • Our ability to pull together a coalition will be damaged.
  • Our rivals will fill the vacuum.
  • It will be much harder for us to import top international talent/companies, hence trade and investment will shift toward other countries.
I could go on but what advantages do you see besides knowing that the world fears us more, for the wrong reasons?

I don't agree with any of your points. For example, Japan and Indonesia have each reached major defense agreements with us in the last year.

Who else is Europe going to join up with? Russia or China? Or maybe Greenland?

People and companies can earn a lot more money in the US, so where else will they be drawn to?

The advantages to the US include not having to spend so much on deadbeat European allies for their defense, and closer defense ties with countries like Japan and Indonesia that are near the CCP police state.

Sigh, I answered your question about our reputation so if you don't agree with any of my valid points because you have some anecdotes, we're done here.

I've said my piece.

Have a good one.

Defense agreements with Japan and Indonesia are not "anecdotes", nor is wealthy Euro countries having to pay for for their own defense.

Again, of course countries that have been ripping us off on trade barriers and tariffs for years don't like any pushback on their gravy trains.

Under-fire EU says trade deal with Trump was best it could do – POLITICO
Do you not understand that after WW II the US accepted global responsibilities that came with the agreement for the US dollar to be the reserve currency for global commerce. How much benefit have we derived from this? It may be time to make changes, but people complaining about other countries not doing their share have a very myopic view and frankly are just ignorant. The US and Nixon screwed the pooch by dropping the gold peg that was agreed to vis Bretton Woods

BW led to GATT and then to WTO. China has long violated WTO by IT theft, dumping and so forth. Europe has long violated it by excessive EU regulations and other trade barriers.

BW/WTO has nothing to do with wealthy NATO countries making defense commitments and then not meeting them.

Maybe you need better news sources.

  • Military cooperation with U.S. partners is deepening in response to increased aggression by China and North Korea’s expanding nuclear program.
Again you're using anecdotes that don't address the theme that being a country with "a reputation in shambles" is not an advantage. That does not mean others won't work with us when they need/have to but acting like a pariah nation does have consequences. I can provide anecdotes too.

They are now because of Trump.

They are also paying for US weapons that go to Ukraine, instead of US taxpayers paying - also because of Trump.

All except Spain, which is not a serous country.
Apparently you do not understand the value of trust and cooperation as a basic element in the use of the USD for global trade.

Then explain it.
Global trust and cooperation are foundational to the value and dominance of the U.S. dollar (USD). They underpin its status as the world’s primary reserve currency, drive massive international demand for U.S. assets, and lower American borrowing costs.

Trust and cooperation are the fundamental pillars that give the United States Dollar (USD) its value. Because the USD is a fiat currency, it is not backed by a physical commodity like gold. Instead, its worth relies entirely on institutional, global, and economic trust.

🏛️ Institutional Trust (The Foundation)
  • Rule of Law: Investors trust that the U.S. legal system protects property rights and enforces contracts fairly.

  • Federal Reserve Autonomy: Global markets rely on the central bank to make independent monetary policy decisions without political interference.

  • Political Stability: Peaceful transitions of power assure markets that economic policies will remain predictable.

  • Liquid Debt Markets: Trust in the U.S. government’s ability to repay its debts makes U.S. Treasuries the world's benchmark safe-haven asset.

🤝 International Cooperation (The Network Effect)
  • Global Reserve Status: Central banks worldwide cooperatively hold the USD as their primary reserve asset to stabilize their own currencies.

  • Cross-Border Trade: International agreements ensure major global commodities, especially oil (the "petrodollar"), are priced and settled in USD.

  • SWIFT Network: Global financial institutions cooperate using the U.S.-monitored SWIFT system to process trillions of dollars in daily transactions safely.

  • Crisis Management: During economic shocks, the Federal Reserve provides USD swap lines to foreign central banks, reinforcing global financial stability through direct cooperation.

📉 Risks of Eroding Trust and Cooperation
  • Weaponization Risks: Using dollar-based financial sanctions can cause non-aligned nations to seek alternatives to avoid U.S. leverage.
  • De-dollarization Incentives: A loss of geopolitical trust encourages countries (like the BRICS bloc) to settle trade in regional currencies.
  • Inflation Concerns: If domestic political gridlock threatens fiscal stability (e.g., debt ceiling disputes), international trust drops, weakening the dollar's purchasing power.

Now ask AI to explain what that has to do with wealthy Euro countries and Canada making commitments for NATO funding levels and then not keeping them year after year. How is that for keeping "trust".

Also ask it what other currency could possibly replace the USD as the primary reserve currency.

Republicans should make Democrats own the radical agenda they refuse to reject

Funny part is AOC and Bernie Sanders have accomplished nothing at all but becoming a millionaire they loathe.

https://www.washingtontimes.com/new...-make-democrats-radical-agenda-refuse-reject/

People need to be reminded of the way things were under President Biden. That was when gas rose to $5 a gallon, inflation soared as high as 9%, millions of unvetted illegals poured across the border, Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro was thumbing his nose at the U.S. and Iran was weeks away from getting the bomb.

The message: If you vote Democratic at any level, you are summoning back the bad old days. You are also enabling Democratic Socialists of America, which is taking over the party and pushing a bizarre, anti-American agenda.

A recent Washington Post poll showed that 75% of Democrats said they could vote for a DSA candidate. The Democratic Party already supports illegal immigration, no voter IDs, noncitizen voting, confiscatory taxation, bigger government, limitless abortions, drugging and mutilating sexually confused teens, anti-Zionism and openly siding with America’s enemies.

DSA’s platform calls for all that, plus tearing up the U.S. Constitution, abolishing prisons, defunding police, ending capitalism and imposing liberty-crushing collectivism.

Millionaires are fine, billionaires is the new target.

I am skeptical you can force people to liquidate assets to pay for a new tax. Need to survive court battles and I think a big chunk of these people would flee the country.

I guess we will find out.

IMO its theatrics to so the government can avoid meaningful spending cuts.

Abdul El-Sayed’s Michigan rise exposes Democrats’ moral morass

Why do democrats hate America?

https://nypost.com/2026/08/02/opinion/abdul-el-sayeds-michigan-rise-exposes-democrats-moral-morass/

The Democrats’ bloody civil war isn’t about health care, or immigration, or LGBT issues, or marginal tax rates.

It’s about two irreconcilable worldviews: one that celebrates the United States as exceptionally commendable, and the other that scorns it as exceptionally reprehensible — often using Israel as a proxy.

In Michigan, a pair of lawmakers are at last acknowledging this hard, inconvenient truth.

Rep. Haley Stevens, the establishment pick to represent the Democrats in the Great Lakes State’s Senate race, has taken the gloves off against Abdul El-Sayed, the short-tempered, Jew-baiting Hasan Piker fanboy who boasts a double-digit polling lead ahead of Tuesday’s primary.

“Everyone in America understands you want to blame all of your problems on Jewish Americans,” Stevens posited in a scorching tweet Thursday.

Rep. Hillary Scholten, a Stevens supporter and her colleague in Michigan’s House delegation, went even further, expressing doubt that she’d back El-Sayed if he prevails Aug. 4.

“I will not stand beside someone who has allowed distinctly anti-American sentiment to enter our public dialogue,” said Scholten, citing El-Sayed’s decision to campaign alongside Piker, he of “America deserved 9/11” infamy.

It’s heartening to see some Democrats, any Democrats, join Fetterman’s camp.

Where’s everyone else?

Yep, they did disagree. TDS is powerful stuff.
:)
People actually believed he was going to bring lower prices and world peace.
prices had lowered from the highs under Biden and in some places peace has been obtained. Ukraine is still a big issue that started before he ever ran for Potus as is the Iranian crisis. The fight with Iran has been going on since the early 70's. Doesnt matter if people understand whats going on or not the whole Ukraine, Russia, Iran, and China thing is connected....

See the above example. This is what i mean when i say it always ends the same when these clowns get total power and we have over 100 years of history to see it. These are not our brothers and sisters. They are the enemy within and thats how they view us. Doesnt matter if Communist or Nazi-Socialist it ends the same always....

A faction?? There’s like 3 of them. Both parties have their crazies but it’s obvious the republicans will paint the entire party in the communist light.

This is the new thing they’ll latch onto and beat into the ground. Last cycle it was as the trans thing and they convinced all the easily-manipulated idiots that democrats were coming to perform sex change operations on their kids at school.

The democrats need to loudly distance themselves from these socialist yahoos.
Doesnt help when you got leftist/trans saying on social media just that. They shouted "we are coming for your kids" and the leftist politicians supported this by enacting laws to not notify parents for kids to transition etc. When you brag about doing something so bold dont get mad when people take notice and revolt against that....
