James taking a gap year makes the most sense since he would still get 5 years going forward given his age.

If Mitchell goes 174, will his singlet finally fit his legs?
It makes sense for the program but would he want to defer a year? He’s been wrestling great and probably feels like he could win a title this year.
OTOH: imagine James after a free year at NLWC.
We'll see about him, but there is precedent. I'm sure Nico felt no less convinced he could win a title the year he shirted, due to being a 2x national finalist.
Given all of the changes that the NCAA has made including with 5 for 5, and the elimination of redshirts, it would be great if they allowed teams to enter more than one wrestler in the conference tournaments and NCAA’s.

🫣Interesting broadside from The Texas Trial Group. I, too, cringed when Baker called the athletes failed professionals. Kind of exposes the lie of their, "X% of athletes go pro in something other than sports" feel-good-but-don't-pay-them ad campaign.
What I have been told is regardless what happens in the Senate and House this wouldn't become a thing until mid September at that point athletes will be playing football and others enrolled and training for winter sports. The sports act being signed in mid September wouldn't effect the judges ruling in Colorado. Once it's signed it would be the rules for the future it won't be retroactive

I did merge the thread about if Levi gets a 5th year into the lineup projections/discussions thread, as that was what it was. When I merged the threads, I kept the Levi thread up for a couple of hours, so that the OP and others know what happen to the discussion. However, in doing that, it makes the standalone thread inactive. Nothing changed in the titles of the lineup projections thread, so I'm a tad confused by your question.
That makes two of us. It confused me that clicking on one thread title took me to a thread with a different title. But now I get it.

OK, I admit -- I stole and adapted the Lewan joke from Phillies broadcaster, former MLB relief pitcher, and legendary not serious person Larry Andersen.
A few years ago, Andersen claimed he hit .333 in his MLB career. Which is hilarious, because he probably didn't get 10 career hits. When challenged by his broadcast partner, he said he got hits in 4 out of 12 seasons.
A light-hitting relief pitcher seemed analogous to Lewan.

NCAA administrators and their Attorneys are over paid.

Just guessing, but whatever Congress comes up with will struggle to survive court challenges.
Congress passes laws. The courts then apply the laws. Unless the law is deemed unconstitutional I am not sure what the challenge could be.
One of the things in it definitely will be challenged. Its the Lane Kiffin rule saying you can't quit and get another job until the season is over.
The Black Bear population of New Jersey and Pennsylvania would be ecstatic if Levi came back another year and it kept him out of the woods.
Don't see it happening. Mesenbrink can't even fill out a singlet at 165.
Is anyone worried that we end up losing James if Levi comes back? Everyone is talking like a greyshirt is a no brainer but James can compete for a national title this year. Maybe he doesn’t want to sit and decides to go somewhere he can wrestle this year. Losing him would not be worth 1 more year of Levi in my opinion

That makes me feel a bit better. I think he’s going to be next in the long line of greats that have come through PSU recently
Lost in all of this speculation and conjecture is the fact that, if healthy, Kasak would be a major roadblock to James getting the starting spot regardless of any 5 for 5 plan.
While writing this law Cruz and his peers have listened to what Nick Saban thinks is good for college football, they have heard from the NCAA, the Big10 and SEC. I haven't read anything about any student-athletes being ask what they think, nor any having any input. If these student-athletes see their annual incomes decline from several million a year to a couple hundred thousand, or maybe drop from a couple hundred thousand to 25,000 a year and their ability to shop their services to a higher bidder is restricted due to transfer restrictions and these haven't been negotiated I have a tough time seeing that survive a court challenge.
4 in 5 is still allowed and could still be done. The only difference now is that, unlike previously, a season of eligibility would be lost instead of a redshirt year. Granted, it's a significant distinction.4 in 5 would have solved everything

Healthy kasak is the real deal. Can be road block for van ness, duke or James, depending how weight classes work out.
Yes. I can’t believe a guy with his resume gets overlooked so easily in these discussions.
I don’t think anyone here WANTS him out of the equation… but his injury history allows one to THINK him out of it… and thus make the mental puzzle of fitting everyone else in easier to solve!
I'm not sure he gets overlooks as much as I'm not sure a healthy Kasak exists, very unfortunately.
