Based on Tavion's tweet, he's ready to play a 5th year in college. Where? Who knows.

Tavion Banks is one of many Seniors from the Class of 2022 that are exploring legal routes for a 5th year of eligibility.
Banks played his first 2 seasons at Northwest Florida JUCO, followed by 1 year at Drake, and this past season at Iowa.
Offensively Tavion occupied the forward/small-ball 4 position for Ben McCollum and the Hawkeyes last season and proved to be mismatch problem on offense. Defensively Banks’ versatility shined, often being tasked with guarding ball dominant guards with the ability to switch on/off ball screens when needed.
There probably aren’t two stats talked about more together in college basketball right now than ORB% and 3PT%
Tavion excelled in both categories posting a 44.2% 3PT%(97%tile) & 8.6% ORB%(97%tile). He is the only such player to post that combination in the BIG 10 this past season
Tavion’s efficiency can’t be overstated posting a 53.5% FG% on Rim + 3s which ranks in the top 95%tile.
He was also 1 of only 10 players in the Big Ten to post at least a 23% USG% while maintaining a 62% TS%. Pair that with this ORB% and he’s 1 of only 12 players across all P5 conferences with those numbers. Some of those other players being Cameron Boozer, Zuby Ejifor, Hannes Steinbach, & Caleb Wilson to name a few.
Ball screen setting & rolling is a more valuable skill than ever in today’s game and Banks’ ability to manipulate ball screens as a screener via flips, rescreens & short roll scoring ability is elite.

interesting that we have 2 open roster spots at the moment (with the waiver for Jacob Koch)
Yeah, I made that post before I knew about Jacob Koch’s waiver.
But with the 5-for-5 rule, everybody on the roster could come back next year, meaning we need scholarships for anyone we sign. At present, we have Keller Daugherty committed. Assuming we are serious about Cayden Daughtry (or the other guys we are connected with), we will need an open scholarship for them.
I wonder how many IOWA football players would have returned this season had the rules allowed them to.
I think bottom line you simply have to sue the NCAA. When's the last time the NCAA won a court case?

I’m probably in the minority here, but since there’s open roster spots, I would love to see Ben scrape together some money and have Tavion return. The guy averaged 10 points a game last year and knows BMC’s system well.
Given how many unproven players figure to be in the rotation this year, Banks could be the difference between a good season and a great season.
I tend to agree but I could also see how they might want to increase their size and Tavion doesn't fit that idea.
hopefully Iowa is at least still an option
I’m not sure I understand your point. Tavion is 6’7 and a very versatile player. As essentially a one-year rental, I would favor the experience and depth he would provide over rolling the dice on a group of unproven freshmen who may not be ready for prime time. And then if you get hit with one or two injuries to critical players, you’re really in a pinch.
FTR, if BMC is good with the projected roster and rotation, then I trust him. I will say, though, I would be surprised to learn Tavion was told to look elsewhere if granted an additional year as opposed to him just wanting to seek out a larger payday, if that is indeed how it went down.

Unless for some reason BMC told Tavion to move on, even if granted an additional year, I would think he would be welcomed back with open arms, but I will be the first to admit I would have no clue one way or the other. It just seems odd that after Tavion followed BMC to Drake then Iowa that a roster spot that won’t get filled wouldn’t be his if he wanted it.
A 6'7" guard/forward is bad for team size?
My point is Tavion is a 6'7" PF, which is small for the Big Ten so I could see why BMc might want more size at his position. Although his three % was pretty good, I wouldn't call him a good shooter as he just doesn't shoot that much outside of down low, so I can also see why McCollum might not want him at the 3 when he has an excellent shooter in Koch to play the majority of minutes. All of this said, it's just conjecture in why McCollum might not have fought to keep Banks. For all I know, perhaps Banks just wants to go somewhere else and cash in. Who knows?
Read the post directly above yours and you will discover that Banks is a guard/forward.
That's how he was listed on the roster last season.
And most college coaches, including Ben, (and all NBA coaches) define one's position these days by who he can guard.

I would like him back to Iowa but statistically his agent can make a case for big money from KY or any Blueblood deep pocket school.

Decent player but he's a dime a dozen tons of guys out there that can do what he does
Banks is a 6’7 athlete that can guard the 1-4 positions. He is an unselfish player that is a dog. We have no chance at beating FL in the tournament without him. He is a great complimentary player and a winner. He should get a solid check somewhere. I wish he was coming back.
He's a really tenacious player and does whatever it takes to win. The Elite 8 moniker will carry some weight, but like you, I don't believe he will command 7 figures.

Would’ve been interesting with guys like X or Graves. I did read with training camp started judge who issued this stated that football players who signed a pro contract wouldn’t be eligible under this. So any talk of guys like 2 I mentioned or anyone leaving training camp days in for big college payday won’t be happening.
To me I was thinking same thing. Banks wants to cash in and I don’t blame him, plus I’m sure iowa limited on what we have left to spend. Stirtz gave Iowa a huge discount last season but he knew he had a pro career on the horizon. Banks next year could be his highest income season in his career potentially so why I can’t fault him.
