Every state calls its state college "State". I'm ok with the logo, but I never agreed with the push to call ourselves State.

As a twelve year old state fan in the late 80's early 90's and traveling to Colorado...
I walked into a restaurant decked in full M over S cap, think my t-shirt said Mississippi State, shorts were maroon; young Texas girl about my age gave me The Who is
that( those words came outta her mouth). I was wtf even back then. Several years later we hire a dude who coached ATM and then steered a bull on our fitty yard line before we kicked Tejas in the teeth.
Moral of this tldr post is just when we begin to doubt ourselves that's when we begin to step up. Very pessimistic about our upcoming football season but ready to see what Lebby does with his changes.

Banner MState, on the other hand, is very recognizable. I’ve tested this with multiple out of staters. It also still allows us to be ‘State’ if we want.

&tate is fine on merch. But the push to rebrand our whole athletic department was one of the worst decisions we’ve made lately, and that’s a long line. And the worst thing is, it was pushed by so many of our more visible alumni/fans/media. Including Steve Robertson.

Totally 17ing stupid. We all could have been happy. We could have done whatever on the helmet, uniforms, etc. But keep our official university logo on the most prominent places, like websites, fields, stadiums, etc.

MSU has never had a clue on Marketing.

100% this.

I don't like gay &tate except on a baseball/softball jersey.

At this very moment, you can walk into any place that sells MSU merchandise and see at least six logos.

Gay &tate
M-state new
MS baseball logo
Walking Bully
MSU interlocking
at least one of MSU interlocking old (MSJ) or M-state old (bad banner)

And that's not counting legacy logos like the Flying M or the cool Bully with the pennant.

The 2009 rebrand of bad banner was good. It reproduced well, it looked good on uniforms and helmets and looked good on apparel. It looked good on TV graphics and it was recognizable to the majority of college football fans.

M-State in one form or another has been around since 1996. Thirty years. Gay &tate isn't it. Maybe it's time for another rebrand.

If we had won while wearing it people would know it. Not saying I like it, but dem are facts.

interlocking for football

anyone who disagrees with the baseball symbol can see themselves out

banner M as the overall symbol for state

basketball??

also, flying M is awesome as a retro logo and should make more appearances

Rebranding as generic as possible was one of the dumbest decisions they’ve made. You can use whatever logo you want you don’t have to change the entire branding to satisfy the vocal minority.

You get outside of the bubble of keyboard warrior Mississippi state fans and no one cares about this.
When you say things like this, you prove the point that most MSU people don't understand marketing. It's not something you actively can care about. It's subtle, and it matters. You may not want it to, because we are so bad at it or you don't care or whatever, but it does.

To me, the ones who say this doesn't matter are the ones in the bubble. There's a bigger world out there. It's actually easy to live in MS and continue to go on about life even when MSU sucks.

I never said the M state wasn’t recognizable. You kind of made my point, so…..thanks??
If you're going to go that route you're going to always be rebranding. Nobody wins all the time.

I think that's a waaaay oversimplification, and honestly a cop-out, to say, "hey let's win and that will take care of everything else". Well, what is your plan to win? It doesn't just happen.

I think more college football fans care what their teams logo is than you realize. And yeah, having a recognizable brand logo is important. Getting rid of one that was recognized by most college football fans & replacing it with something that makes us more obscure that Troy or Ball State is beyond stupid. At least they seem to realize their mistake & seem to have corrected it.

I think it has more to do with the football team sucking more than anything. I own MSU gear with all the various logos and personally it’s not a big deal but to each their own.

Logos on gear & the helmet logo are very different things. Let Georgia or Alabama (or virtually any other big time school) change their helmet logo & see if it’s just a few keyboard warriors that care.

I have never heard any state fans asking for a rebrand of our overall university logo. The vocal majority wanted our old football logo back where it belonged and we got it. Them changing to script state for a rebrand is a different conversation. I don’t really know anyone that was asking for that. Only thing I’ve ever seen anyone ask for was to get the banner M off of our football uniforms. It’s fine on buildings and letterhead. It’s not a good football logo. Alabama, LSU, Florida, Michigan, USC, etc all have unique football logos that look like their team and when people see it they recognize it. The interlocking is ours to most people around the country. I know there will be some rebuttal to this not rooted in fact and based on some obscure anecdotal evidence, but there has been a guy on the other page literally dedicate hundreds of hours of research into this and had multiple sit downs with our AD about it and got him to change the logo. We did good going back to it. As far as the overall university logo I don’t want to be rebranded.

It’s a little different situation than Bama or Georgia because State has never had a consistent logo ever.

Because when they found a good one they stopped changing it. When we found our good one, Larry Templeton trashed it to get away from the stigma of the best coach we ever had in the modern era (at that time). It was stupid.

We get it, you don’t care. So how about you let the people who do care, discuss it? Why are you trying so hard to convince us it doesn’t matter?

We’ve never won anything in our history. How about we start doing the basic, fundamental things that winners and major brands do?

Because the stupid azz MoFos keep changing the damn things. How can anything be consistent if it's changed every 5 years and there's different University logos, midfield logos, and football logos, baseball logos, mid court logos etc. Then you add in silver uniforms, gold uniforms, black uniforms, camo caps and the other stupid azz crap that adidas has done, it's just one big dumb marketing cluster ****.

We had one basic one for 30 years then another for 25. So basically 2 logos in 55 years before we changed. And within 2 years we changed back to one of the 2 we had for 55 years.

Which logos are those? M-State logo was for about 20 years. Interlocking was about 12ish. Before that it was the MSJ logo for about 6 years

Walking Bully and interlocking MSU should be State’s branding for football, and I’ll fist fight anyone who says otherwise. Iconic.

I would agree that State can have a unique helmet logo and still use the MState as the university logo. I don't have a problem with that. HOWEVER...

You give an inch, they want a mile .... with state fans. I've seen state people seriously discussing taking every MState logo off the football stadium. I've seen State fans lose it over the MState logo being a tv graphic for a baseball game. When we did the throw back uniforms for the 1996 basketball team, the school purposely left off the MState logo. Which 1996 was the first year we wore the logo on a uniform. I mean..... wtf? Why do some have such a hate for the logo. It's really odd and weird but sooooo, Mississippi State fan.

Nobody can shoot themself in the foot better than Mississippi State. Not just the logo. In just about every way you could imagine.
