My cataracts were removed in about 4 minutes per eye.....they were sucked off with some machine. Obviously there must be different procedures depending upon the condition.

Yes, you are correct. The Phaco machine. The length of the procedure depends on the severity of the cataract and what type of lens they are implanting into the eye after the cataract is emulsified. Also, if there is an intraoperative complication (it’s infrequent and mild usually) like a vitreous leak, a vitrectomy is required. This would add a few extra minutes as well, but very minor amount of added time. Most of the time it’s less time than a visit to the dentist for a routine cleaning.

From time-to-time posters make prayer requests on this Board for family, friends, or for themselves. When I read them, I try to respond as best I can. Today I humbly ask for prayers for myself.
As I have mentioned in the past, Mrs. Gambit is a stickler for our privacy, so I will not provide the date or place, but in the coming days I will be undergoing open heart surgery, primarily to repair a badly leaking heart valve. The operation is serious, but my surgeon is among the very best and the chances of success are over 90%. Still, there are no guarantees. I have always been a strong believer in prayer and I will need all the help I can get going forward, so I ask that if you have a brief moment, and are so inclined, please ask the Good Lord to grant me a successful surgery and a quick recovery.
I don't want to put a burden on my wife in providing a post-surgery update and so I will just say that if all goes well I will let the Board know as soon as I can. If you don't hear from me by the middle of August...well, lets not even think about that.

You're usually pretty organized, so I'm pretty sure that you'll stick to the cardiac rehab schedule you are give. And I'm quite certain that the brains in the family, Mrs. Fair, will make sure that you stick to the schedule when you're tempted to slack off.

Great news Fair.

Just be sure to follow your rehab instructions. Many years ago, my step dad had open heart surgery after a number of cardiac arrests, and the doctor put him on a rigorous rehab routine (he was in his early 70s then), and he stayed with it for the rest of his life and lasted well into his late 90s.

Just be sure to follow your rehab instructions. Many years ago, my step dad had open heart surgery after a number of cardiac arrests, and the doctor put him on a rigorous rehab routine (he was in his early 70s then), and he stayed with it for the rest of his life and lasted well into his late 90s.

IrishHerb is correct. Be sure to follow your rehab and listen to the professionals.
I had open heart surgery 5.5 years ago at age 71 for an aortic valve replacement. I followed all the rehab protocals. Finished cardiac rehab then joined the hospital's gym. I am in better shape now than I was since my 50s. The key is to listen to the experts and follow their advice. Then get ino a regular exercise program.
