Understandable. My background is in foreign policy for a large nation, so I do track these things closer than most

This appears awful. All the way around. I also abhor the way it is being immediately used as political fodder in our country by pretty mush everybody
While I try to stay out of the political discussions as much as possible, I think this is pretty relevant to the US considering we had caravans of migrants in recent years showing up at our southern border. I’d say the biggest difference in Spain is it appears to be all men that crossed the border where there were a lot of families crossing here.
I will say that if similar things happened in the Virgin Islands I would not feel threatened here in any way. So my point holds and, in the most C34 way possible, I’d like to claim I’m still right!
Interesting enough Biden announcing a relaxed policy ushered in a lot of that while the Spanish Supreme Court ruling appears to have done similar there. Policy matters.
They really screwed up the way they handled that. They should have said if you’re round you’re a planet. If you’ve cleared out your orbit you’re a major planet. If not you’re a minor planet. That would have gone over better from a PR standpoint. But Pluto is in the same class as Ceres & a half dozen other KBOs.
You wouldn’t see a problem if a US territory was attacked? Glad you weren’t in charge in December 1941. But that’s not even really a good comparison. This is actually a part of Spain.
I honestly would feel quite threatened, and I’m not one who normally gets worked up about these things

I’m not sure what you are trying to say. Are you having a stroke? The invaded Spanish city is part of Spain regardless of whether it’s physically attached to Europe or not. That’s like saying if Hawaii was invaded, it’s not the same as the US being invaded.

Cueta is a city in Spain. Since their court is granting sweeping citizenship, the invaders want to be on Spanish soil to get citizenship. Once a citizen, they are EU citizens and may flow wherever they want.
Is this premise truly that hard to understand?

Never did I say such a thing. It seemed that you were connecting the dots that Ceuta is as much a part of Spain as Honolulu is the United States.
The invaders mission is to become citizens of Spain. For one to argue which continent Ceuta is on is quite a moot point. The point is that it is Spanish soil. To argue its location shows a lack of understanding of what’s going on.
Just out of curiosity, how many in this thread have actually been to Europe and even more specifically Spain? I‘ve been to most countries in Western Europe. My only experience in Spain is Barcelona. THAT is a cosmopolitan city overrun by tourists. I wouldn’t care to go back, mainly because I saw pretty much everything there I wanted to see in that one visit.
Well, since most of them went back to Morocco after they looted the place that kind of shoots holes in your theory. That you don’t take into account its location revels your agenda. There is a territorial facet to this you are ignoring. Morocco still claims that place. Look into that. It has more to do with it than what you are peddling. We are about to back Morocco’s claim from what I’m seeing.
Wouldn’t “feel threatened”. My assumption is we have a better military presence in our territories and would not have this issue, but if we did would deal with it in short order. Maybe Spain doesn’t have much of a presence or maybe 60,000 people just overwhelmed it.

I’m not ”peddling” anything. As you acknowledge, some did return but only because they had no food, resources, nor places to stay. If you believe that the timing of the court ruling and the invasion are coincidental, well, it does track with whom I’m engaging. Enjoy what little night you have left. To each his own. I never felt threatened when we had a surge on our border after Biden kinda said we don’t care about that any more. Google says that it is basically handled now, so that might have been too short lived to be a great political weapon:
- Voluntary Returns: The vast majority of the people who crossed into Ceuta have already returned voluntarily to Morocco.
- Spanish Action: The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, visited Ceuta and deployed military and police reinforcements to secure the border and restore order.
Ceuta is 25 miles across water to the mainland of Spain. So the flotillas are next. Easy way to stop this shart. Take out the first 10 boats. Easy peasy
The OP, should you choose to read what I replied to, talked specifically about this border crossing from Africa to … well… Africa…as a big threat to Europe. So I took a continental exception. Perhaps part of your fact checking should be reading comprehension.
I told you what I believe, this place is in Africa, not Europe. I also believe that Morocco still claims the place, and that we are about to back that claim. It has more to do with that, and our administration's conflict with Spain, than what you are pitching. If they wanted citizenship NONE of them would have left once they were there. It IS an invasion, but there are other explanations for it that make more sense.
It seems like a very basic thing a government is supposed to do is enforce laws to protect its citizens from crime.
Spain has chosen not to do that in this case.
The Virgin Islands are a good ways away from us. we don’t have anything analogous to cuerta really. Distance wise it’d be more like invading one of the outer banks islands.
I looked on a map, that particular city in Spain is in N Africa. Not connected to Spain but separated by the Strait of Gilbralter. Not any different from walking from Tx into Ok.

Gentle sir, I comprehended your reply very well. I gather that you don’t fully understand the situation and that’s okay. My original assumption (of you downplaying the threat to Europe) was correct. It’s been stated many times already so I won’t repeat it entirely. The Moroccans were hoping to get in on the citizenship sweepstakes which would include instant access to Europe. This is where the threat to Europe comes into play. If this is too difficult to comprehend, I will stop trying to help you understand. Good day!

I don't know what the truth is but I'd put money on this event being more about geopolitics concerning a very important trade route than about failed immigration policies allowing poor Muslims invade the west.
But what I don't get is if we are wanting Moroccan control of Cueta, why are the maga media trying to paint Moroccans as invaders and not being sympathetic to them controlling what should be theirs? Do they expect to pivot from "Europe is being invaded!" to "Spain can't be trusted, let's give Cueta to the invaders"?
This is an interesting conspiracy theory. If we (as in the world in general) were to support Moroccan control and possession of Ceuta, then we should theoretically support Russian possession of Crimea, correct?
I don't think "the world" considers much more than "will this make me safer and/or my cost of living more affordable" and if the answer is no, then we are against it. It's not really any more principled or deeper than that and I wouldn't expect consistency from groups of people as a result.
