In college football it can be argued that a strong OL is the most important "position".

(Which is nothing new) for Iowa.

I can tell you this. If Iowa can run the ball, stop the run, have consistency in the punt game, and stay healthy, it won't make a damn bit of difference who the QB is

Players have said before that after the first possibly emotional series on offensive and defense, it gets down to doing your job.

I believe (could be wrong) FBS football schools are required to have at least 16 total sports. Of course the individual school can decide for itself how much to spend on a sport.

Why I stated earlier they should drop down to the FCS level. Its just funny he's boasting all these sports as successful when all but one are money sink holes and they're talking about revenue....

I'm trying to remember the 1985 OL. Mike Haight was at one tackle (1st round draft pick), I think Dave Croston was the other. Kelly O'Brien was a guard, famous for getting in the ref's face in the Michigan game and calling TO with :03 left on the clock. I think Bob Kratch was the other guard. Mark Sindlinger may have been the center. Any help from guys with better memories than mine?

I think you pretty well got it. Kratch and Haight had solid NFL careers. Croston and Tom Humphrey made the NFL but didn't stick as long. I don't see that Sindlinger or O'Brien had any NFL stats. It was definitely a very good line.

ISU is returning 3 starters,,,,,,3. New coach, new assistant coaches (all of them), new schemes. They lost 55 players to the portal. 12 of their incoming recruits that had signed asked for and received releases. Plus, the they have no money to recruit effectively in the portal. This is going to be a beat down.

1. Its place in the schedule. We must go into Ann Arbor 3-0.
2. Iowa State will have no identity and a single game under their belt as a team. This is when we have to reestablish our dominance in the rivalry. They are a cobbled together team of nobodies.
3. It is a litmus test for the remainder of the season and will tell us exactly how good this team is. If we struggle or lose, hold on to your butts.

I want this game so badly, I'd be more than fine not passing a single time if it means we beat them by 50. We have an arguably top 20 OLine, despite the losses, and an experienced and hungry RB room. I don't see them stopping the run.

In conclusion, this is a must win game, and one of the most important Cy-Hawk games in Kirk's career.

I agree with points 1 and 2. However, I don’t think number 3 is accurate at all for a couple of reasons.

A -we will have no idea how good this team is until November, which is pretty much the same blueprint as every other KF team. They continue to be well coached, and for a majority of the games each season they continue to improve.

B - because of the youth of the D line and defense in general KF and Tim will most likely be a lot more ball control. Which fits with your running philosophy and I hope to see it! But they won’t win by 50 I say maybe beat the spread so that puts him at 12 or 13.

With every KF team, I think this game is always a “adjustment“ game before they get into the Big Ten season witchmeans a lot more to KF than the Iowa State game means to us.

The fact that beating a bunch of "nobodies" is so important to you, reveals your insecurities, as a person.

Iowa football is one of the last things that anyone shouldn't feel confident about.

I agree to a point, as Ferentz teams always seem to come into their own come November. But historically speaking, Iowa State has consistently been the game that determines how good a team can be. If we lose to them, we're usually not that great, if we beat them, we usually have a pretty great year. There have been exceptions, like 2002, but it's consistent enough that I take it into account.

It'll likely be a low scoring affair, but if that means 33-3, I'll take it.
