UEFA to hold emergency Thursday meeting over FIFA's World Cup plan - sources

UEFA will hold an emergency meeting of its 55 members on Thursday, sources have told ESPN, to discuss plans, including a potential World Cup boycott, as it coordinates a response to FIFA's proposal to sell a stake in the tournament to private investors.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino revealed the proposal on Tuesday to raise $20 billion from a sale of equity to outside investors, saying that the plan will "unleash the commercial potential and opportunity that FIFA has."

UEFA vows World Cup boycott as Concacaf rejects FIFA private equity plan

FIFA president Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to a private equity group was dealt a major blow on Thursday, after Concacaf joined UEFA in rejecting the proposal.

UEFA will boycott all FIFA competitions including the World Cup after an emergency meeting Thursday resolved to "unequivocally reject" FIFA president Gianni Infantino's plan to raise $20 billion of outside investment with a share sell-off to a private equity group.

The decision means that major nations including Germany, France, England and world champions Spain would not participate in the men's or women's World Cups.

I shall take the cynical view and say that this is a meaningless self congratulatory move by UEFA. This will all get worked out long before 2030 when it really matters and when it would actually be putting their money where their mouth is. All they are really risking at this moment is the development of their U17 boys, U20 women and possibly the eleven women’s teams that would be going to Brazil next year. While the money involved with the women’s senior world cup is much less than the men’s, I’m sure that some of those eleven European women’s programs could really use that money, assuming they would get to keep some of it.

Basically, they’re sacrificing their women’s programs so they can publicly swing their di@k$ at Infantino.

My read on it is that they're doing this to make sure that it doesn't pass in September. I applaud them for taking a stand...and would be shocked if the plan isn't dropped sooner than later.

Agree. This isn't about the U17s or the womens game....this was an immediate the F*** you are to Egg Head. No Europe in any WC is no WC.

I heard on the radio that a few countries have already indicated they will boycott the World Cup if this proposal goes through.

All of Europe has already said no and CONCACAF (US region with Canada, Carribean, and central America) just said a big no thanks too. Hopefully they can get that corrupt maggot running FIFA out, blow it up, and start it over with people now looking to line their pockets or waiting for their kickbacks. How Kushner got in there isn't really a mystery, but corruption loves corruption.

He obviously miscalculated how greedy everyone else involved with FIFA is at this point...kinda like the Big 10, I think it was assumed that athletic departments (or national soccer associations) would be so excited to get a sudden influx of cash that they'd ignore the future impact of the decisions.
