I would sure hope so. You're only double their payroll.

The Chicago Cubs have a significantly higher payroll than the St. Louis Cardinals for the 2026 season, sitting at roughly $222 million to $253 million compared to St. Louis's $119 million to $120 million.

Hell they even outspend Milwaukee by $100 million but still remain almost 6 games out of 1st.

Cubs fans have to be the most confident worst team of my lifetime. Unreal how much they think they've accomplished

I would hate to see them give away the farm for 10 Skubal starts.

This isn’t 2016 where the roster was rock solid, top to bottom, with only one hole to fill.
I don't think the Cubs have the prospect capital available to get Skubal, especially compared to the Dodgers and Brewers.

The Cubs absolutely have enough to get Skubal. The Dodgers/Brewers can probably put together better packages, but to say the Cubs don’t have enough is factually incorrect.

I don’t really care that the Dodgers got Skubal as a rental, but if they sign him to some crazy @SS long-term deal with stupid deferred money that gets grandfathered into the new CBA, I’ll be pissed.
highly likely there won’t be baseball next year

and if there is it won’t be a full season with a lockout

Can you imagine if the Brewers actually ever did anything at the deadline? Like trade for Skubal & pair him w Miz? Their move yesterday was trading a backup OF & a decent bullpen arm to Cleveland for 2 players they're putting in AAA.
I don't like the Dodgers, but if teams are dumb enough to not get fair value back in a trade, that's on them.

First round bye and a 1-2 of Skubal and Miz… they would have been my favorite to win it all. I’ve got not idea why they didn’t go for it.

WTF is Nico doing not challenging that? Should be tied up.

This ump has been awful. It shouldn’t be on the players to correct all his missed calls. #RobotUmpsNow

Dude has been awful all game long. Too busy flexing his tattoos on the screen to worry about balls and strikes.

Jameson Taillon has been sent to the Blue Jays for cash considerations or a PTBNL. The Jays must be getting ready to offload some arms.

That was an infuriating loss. That was the worse ump performance I’ve seen this season. Now we get Skubal and the Dodgers.

I like the Gausman move I’m still hopeful for a better and controllable starter as well, but we aren’t forced to if teams ask for too much (Hartshorn). Looks like he started yesterday so rotation will stay same for Dodgers series.
