It change your perception of him and the program?
What if we actually win a game in the playoffs?
Also lf we win a game in the CFP does it give him a long leash like Paris has? After all Paris hasn't really won anything and he is still here.
Im hopeful that both Beamer and Paris win big here this year!
I've been a fan for to many years to expect it but I'm hopeful!

Yeah, I would think that would buy him a LONG time.

Which is kind of silly. Winning a 1st round CFP game is equivalent to winning a bowl game. That should, under normal circumstances, buy you about 3 years around here. But labeling a bowl game a CFP game makes it seem more illustrious, so you are correct. "We can't fire the first coach to ever win a CFP game!"

We could, if we want to continue our history of poor coaching decisions. We wear that hat well.

I believe we could, but it would take a real long string of bad years to do that.
I really hope he succeeds it would be the best thing for this program!

It would have to change perceptions, at least somewhat, for everyone if he took us to the CFP? Even if you remained skeptical, it's hard to argue with the results. And if we won a game in the CFP? Of course, it would buy him a pretty long leash. Now, does that mean the BOT should lose its collective mind and give him a 10 year contract or something nuts like that? Of course not. Can they be trusted not to do that very thing? Of course not.

I dont believe the BOT would do something stupid like make him the Athletic Director though, would they?

And this is one of the main problems I have with CFP expansion. If it expands to 16 teams, you'll have teams who would have otherwise been playing in a mid-tier bowl game getting to boast about making the CFP. And people gobble it up without thinking about it.

There will be a parade in downtown Columbia. Hundreds will be wearing masks with Beamer's face on the masks.

Don't worry about us going to the CFB unless we go undefeated and cannot be denied. There will be some sort of rule from the NCAA, SEC or ACC that will make sure we aren't allowed.
You must have been around in the early 70s when one of McGuire's great Roche teams was denied a Big Dance bid because of a stupid rule

I guess we would enjoy the same reputation as James Madison or Tulane. Both of them made the playoff last year.

Yes, and then we couldn't even play in the NIT because we were hosting a regional. I was young at the time so don't really remember the details.

I always believed that given the opportunity the bowl system would always choose the bigger brand for the bowl games regardless of the results of the year or who deserved it most.
I cant recall the year this actually happened to us but I do remember it.

Beamers not going anywhere. He is loyal and doing great with the resources we have. 4-8 was an anomaly. Imagine the salary and buyout for the next coach. The main issue is we need more money for players.

When you look at the numbers, the poor mouthing loses its effectiveness. SC isn't at the top of the SEC, but isn't near the bottom either when it comes to NIL spending.

I agree Beamer isn't going anywhere. As long as he can be bowl eligible and be competitive with Clemson, he is safe for years to come. Expecting championships and CFP appearances isn't realistic for SC.

Our 4-5 teams that represent the SEC in the playoffs will come out of the 8 biggest Nil spenders." It is what it is"

4-8 can be an anomaly with a good year this year. A losing record would make it 3 out of the last 4, and not an anomaly.

I don't think that is going to happen.

I support Shane and I am glad he's our coach. We don't have to be in the playoffs for me to support him. I think he's a great fit at South Carolina on and off the field.

I hope he continues to grow in the role, which he should do because that is natural. I like that he's willing to change his staff and go after the best coaches that we can hire at South Carolina.

Unless the program fell totally apart, I would like to see him here for more years and give him plenty of time.

We had some pretty big upsets not only on the table but close to in hand last season and just couldn’t close. Several mof; Oklahoma is the only one that we just were not in that I remember offhand but my half full glass is probably wrong on that. A qb that wasn’t cornered into trying to be Johnny U and any semblance of a ground game whatsoever and last season maybe turns out a little more palatable.

As we move into this season the buzz is OL, QB, and RB, but our WR don’t exactly attack a defense; drives me up a wall. We just kind of explore the defense, and meanwhile Sellers is the one being attacked. They have to pull their weight for us to have any success.

If you define success by "almost winning", Beamer is an excellent coach.

The buzz this season is the same as last year. The reality is, OL is a mystery. The fact they are all new and there is a new coach makes some people assume they will be much better. QB is going to be no different. RB...I don't know of any new super talented RBs that have come in since last season.

I still say 6 or 7 regular season wins with one nice upset.

We will know pretty early how the season is going to go. If we come out and simply escape the first 2-3 games, 6-6 is our destiny. If we come out and blow doors, it should be a really fun season. The team lost some close games last year. They're gonna be tougher mentally and be more able to close out games they should win. If Briles can get this team out of the 3 & out funk and simply move the ball better and not settle for "who knows what's gonna happen" FG attempts all game long, this team has a lot of potential.

Lol; wasn’t defining success, was just pointing out that we were closer than a 4-8 record is made out to be by some. I personally don’t predict records before they happen, it’s foolish. Who predicted we’d be going into navy undefeated and ranked no. 2 in 84.

I believe there were times when the bowl chose and other times the SEC. Each time it was the bigger brand.

Usually that's how it goes. The team turned the table after lucked into a win over ODU in our first game a couple of seasons ago, though.

First of all, I hope Beamer succeeds. When I die, I want Beamer to be the Head Coach here. I'm too old to go through another coaching change.

In this NIL era, we all want more money for players. But realistically, we will never catch up with the deep pocket schools. Sure, we might get lucky in the future and have billionaire alumni who are big football fans. Anything is possible. But I would not hang my hat on such a scenario. We just need to hope our football coach is very good when it comes to strategy, tactics, organization and motivation. I believe a Head Football Coach with that ability can win 8 games annually, not necessarily every season, but at least be in that neighborhood every year. So, that means there will be years he wins only 7 games or even 6. But at least he will be in a bowl during such seasons.

The fact is that even before the NIL era, we were never a consistent recruiting juggernaut. The Head Football Coaches who had any semblance of success here at times had that coaching ability. For one reason or another they did not sustain it.

I hope Beamer proves to have that ability. I don't know why Beamer clearly guaranteed we will be in the college playoffs this season. I hope we make it. But to quote one of my favorite graduate school professors at USC, that was very Polack of Beamer. I don't know if pressure has been put on Beamer, resulting in him saying what he said. I know some publications have him on the "hot seat". I guess we will see what happens.

I'm going to say this knowing I'll get hammered on here but ima say it anyway....

I don't think what Beamer said was directed to the fans; it was not said to assuage the fans. It was to the players, the team. People see players as free this/free that/paid to do a job/etc etc, and while true, they are fundamentally humans that need encouraging and support like everyone else. A good coach, any coach really, knows this; what is said in closed locker rooms sometimes needs to be said in public too.

Continuing as a fan to harp on Beamer's statement comes off to me as prissy-ish, and very 'show the Epstein files' like. I truly do not mean to offend anyone but its just lame now.

Shields on.

I have no issue with the idea the coach makes a public statement thats really meant, or at least in part, for the team. Spring depth charts are an example of that.

I disagree that harping on his comment is prissy-ish, etc. He did say it publicly.

I wonder though, how much of it was frustration vs how much of it was calculated. We've often talked about how Shane is still learning on the job. He is less than stoic at times, is about the nicest way I can put it.
