I enjoyed Buffet & saw him 4 times - Mud Island 89 or 90, Amphitheater in MD just outside DC in 1988, Nashville Outdoor Amphitheater in 2016, and Palm Springs, CA in 2023 about 6 months before his death.
I was 15-16 when he played the Hump and that was a little before I became a big fan.

I saw Jimmy Buffet in 1975 at the Bennett auditorium on univ. of southern Ms for $1.00 His song Come Monday was just beginning to get air time on the radio out on the west coast.

I even ran into him at the Peabody lobby in Memphis. Yes I have been a Parrot head for a long time. In my opinion one of the greatest verses ever written for a song was “the seas are in my vains, my tradition remains, I’m just glad I don’t live in a trailer!”

I prefer Bacchanal at Caesar's Palace - it's probably the best in the world. Although my heart is full of yearning for the Quincy's of my time in Starkville. Unlimited yeast rolls... incredible.

I saw him at The Hump for the first time. I’ve seen him probably 25 times since then. I’ve seen the Coral Reefers three times since his death. I think I’m a parrot head!

I had a friend, Larry, in undergrad at Millsaps, who was from Pascagoula. He told us about this kid who visited his grandparents every summer in their neighborhood. He said this guy was playing in a place in Hattiesburg and we should go see him. We never did, but he told a funny story about this guy going to tryout for Chet Adkins in Nashville during his Freshman year at USM. Chet told him that he was too inexperienced and suggested he go play music venues until he learned his craft. He thought he was pretty good, now, and he got drunk in Nashville that night. When he woke up the next morning, the only thing that was on Sunday morning TV was televangelist. He wrote a song about it, “My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, and I don’t love Jesus.” We laughed at Larry’s story.

In 1976, I went to graduate school at State. Buffett and the band were playing at the McCarthy Gym. “Margaritaville” was now his big hit. Loved the music and went out to buy his latest album the next day. Side two, second cut….”My Head Hurts, My Feet Stink, and I Don’t Love Jesus.” I said to myself, Larry, you grew up with Jimmy Buffett.

I think that was 1982-83 because it was after I left school. I came back the next year for a weekend and my friend was dating the head of musicmakers and we got front row center to the Buffet Concert.

Coral Reefers are currently led by another great Mississippian, Mac McAnally.

Don‘t mean to hijack the thread but I saw Mac McAnally in 1978 if memory is correct for a free concert at Hinds Community College outside. Not many people knew who he was and there were only approx 75 people there. I don’t remember which songs he played but you could tell he was very talented.
