It's an official part of the competition, and medals are awarded.
And that changes my opinion how? Nobody else gets a knock out consolation match to pad stats.....but that is just my opinion. It was an entertaining friendly this time, but the vast majority of these friendlies haven't been memorable at all. It's a cracker jack prize for futbol, nothing more than that.

I'm pretty familiar with the competition, but the 3rd place game has always been a joke with the guys that didn't play much getting time. I don't think friendlies which it really is...official or not should impact the golden boot or glove....JMO though.

Birds of a feather.......Corruption loves corruption. I'm sure they have the best interest of the sport in mind.

I thoroughly enjoyed the World Cup. It was great to see the event in the States (and Canada and Mexico). Hopefully, the US can be in contention in 2038, to host again. I have not seen any financials (not really looked), but almost every match that I saw seemed like it was sold out.

Good stuff.

I also liked the split country setup and that will continue in 2030 with Portugal, Spain, and Morocco hosting.

Most Olympic sports have a bronze match, where appropriate. And the NCAA used to in March Madness. So it's not exactly an oddity.

I'm not sure what your deal is here, but that doesn't change my opinion on the 3rd place match at the actual World Cup. Does EUFA have a 3rd place match? Does the FA Cup have a 3rd place match? Here is the answer....NO THEY DO NOT in the same sport in a tournament lay out. Hell you like the Bundesliga I believe, does their Association Cup have a funsy game for 3rd.....nope, they don't either. You are trying to act as if that 3rd place is the norm in a sport where it's not always the norm.

I'm talking about the World Cup in particular which is a winner take all tournament TO ME....and I don't care about the Olympics which has 3 medals for every single event. How many times have you seen runner ups basically take off the medal immediately as it is put on them in FUTBOL competitions....I have several times. Somehow my opinion saying that game is worthless bothers you as you feel this need to try and correct an OPINION.....and you're not doing so. Maybe just let it go????

I think you could take your own advice there. I was merely pointing out that it's not that crazy. Remember that FIFA is competing with the Olympics (it's why the soccer competition is U-23). And, if you want to go US, bowl stats now count in the NCAA and have for the last 20+ years.

Mind you, I didn't stay to watch Portland get their medals in 2015....

I said it was useless and meaningless game where the golden boot goals should not count for LOSERS already KNOCKED OUT of the real competition....and I stand by it even though you think you're doing something. Thank goodness you brought up an different sport who used an opinion poll for close to a century to determine it's winners. Yeah...that is the gold standard. Maybe the losers of the bowl games should play another game to pad their stats or something....good grief.

I think I can safely speak for the board on this. You two cucks can feel free to take it offline anytime.
