Wonder what sort of wiggle room is even in the contracts?

It does seem ironic, I've heard all sorts of bemoaning the "dirty" ole miss program from clemson people over ole miss doing this to them this offseason. And ole miss is mad someone is doing it to them?

Just funny to me to play victim and perp at the same time.

UGA sued a player who broke an NIL deal to leave, I believe, for Missouri. They filed suit in November and the case is ongoing. I'd be surprised if schools can claw back any money.

A judge ruled that Mensa could walk away from his signed NIL deal at Duke, so what's the basis for saying players who walked away from NIL deals have to pay money back?

Depends on the wording of the ''contract'' and if there is failure to meet the obligations of the ''contract'' and requirements for payment of agreed monies, if any, in the ''contract''. I can see a clause being added to solidify reimbursement to penalize those who take the money and run.

I agree. I just don't see these things ever being enforced. Nobody has really held players accountable up to this point.

If UGA wins their case, I really hope they do, that will create a huge change in the way NIL contracts work. The case seems pretty cut and dried to me. The player signed a contract, received payment and didn't fulfil his obligations under the contract. In any other contract dispute, UGA's case would be a slam dunk.

If nothing else, I hope UGA money whips the player by making him spend a fortune on legal fees.

The NIL contract cant be for playing time though. So can the player still fulfill the contract playing for another team?

There was some sort of settlement between Miami and Duke though the official terms weren't released.

The contract the player signed was for a 13 month term. The player left UGA after one month. The terms of the contract stated that he had to be a player on the UGA football team and had to be enrolled as a student at UGA.

It seems pretty obvious that he violated the terms of the contract. The only question I have is how much money should he have to repay. According to what I read, he received $30,000 before he left but UGA wants the full $390,000 value of the contract.

You are right, of course. But the reality is that UGA filed suit nearly 9 months ago. The fact that it is cut and dry but is only inching along in the legal process tells you all you need to know.

Nine months of paying an attorney to write letters and file motions and documents with the court has to be costing the player a fortune. I sure hope it is. Thugs need to understand there are consequences to their actions.
