My favorite part: the same people that called Biden a corpse are copying his insane "the economy is fantastic, what is everyone b'tching about?" approach. Yep. I personally had my head in the sand a bit in 2024. The exit polls were incredibly telling. Voters were overwhelmingly upset about the state of prices and their personal economic future. Kamala did not (or maybe could not) distance herself from economic reality. My favorite part: the same people that called Biden a corpse are copying his insane "the economy is fantastic, what is everyone b'tching about?" approach. Trump and the GOP appear to be trying the same thing. The only way it works is if the Dems put forward candidates who are too far to the left to attract moderate voters.
to be honest, I'm much more comfortable with what I tell myself than what you tell me about myself.Yeah totes, man. Whatever you need to tell yourself![]()
well, first of all there is a third party that wants socialism...seemingly yourself included.Again, Ned, the fund runs out in 6 years. Our representatives are doing what to address the situation? Rs own everything, correct? So if we do nothing and the prevailing R narrative is "no one wants socialism", how do you figure this plays out?
Wage growth in the main kept up with inflation during the Biden years, and continuing Biden/Harris policies into 25-26 almost certainly would have resulted in net gains for most people.Correct,.. The only way to recover from an inflationary episode like this is an extended period of wage growth slightly exceeding a stable low inflation rate,... Even if we're lucky, it will still take years to regain the nominal 25% loss of purchasing power that Biden delivered.
I agree with that 100%. It's pretty dumb to tell people who are feeling the financial "squeeze" that there are no financial problems. My favorite part: the same people that called Biden a corpse are copying his insane "the economy is fantastic, what is everyone b'tching about?" approach. I would hope you'd feel that way about yourself too. A difference, is that I'd never tell you what you should need to tell yourself about yourself.
But if it makes you happy, or helps to fulfill some necessity in your personality, then I'm happy to help

First, I cannot believe we agree on something. High five?well, first of all there is a third party that wants socialism...seemingly yourself included.
Next, Congress has known about the social security problem for decades..remember Al Gore and his metaphor about the "lock box" to protect social security in the 2000 election. Since then we've had both republicans and Democrats have "owned everything" and yet here we are.
How I think this plays out...since Congress has no moral courage, they'll come up with some short term bandaid. We'll either increase the SS contribution %, change the cutoff from the current $187k - maybe do the donut hole thing between $187 and 400k because $400k has been the Democrat cutoff for "wealthy" - and make ss contributions continuous to infinity from the $400k, revise the retirement age, and maybe make some form of means test for receipt of the SS benefit. Or more likely, some combination of all the above.
Republicans will push for some form of "opt out" to let people save for their own retirement - that won't pass: democrats will be the ones pushing for means test - that won't pass either: so they'll agree on some different formula for taxing the SS benefit.
SS has always been the third rail of politics. By 2032, the last of the boomers will be 68, so it will be the GenX folks most affected by Congressional decision. this is the group born between 1965 and 1980. There's about 65 million of them, enough to where politicians can't ignore them as a voting block. Congress won't let social security fail...the worst that would happen IMO is that some reduction in benefits will occur in 2032 and there would be such an outcry, that our leaders would rapidly reverse course and find a way to fund the program.
So, that's a scenario. If 75% happens that way, I wouldn't be at all surprised. If 0% happens I wouldn't be surprised either. Remember there are a lot of people in your generation and younger who feel exactly the way you do...I've paid in to support those greedy boomers (who I expect will leave me a big inheritance),and I expect that the SS program will support me equally when I get to that point in my life.
Its a good day to remember inflation hit 9% under the Biden admin.
If we're honest, neither party has managed the countries finances well over the last 25 years. Bill Clinton, believe it or not, was the last steward of the county's wealth. As an Aside in 1985 there was a major debate about the national debt it was out of control at $1.85 BILLION, Congress passed the graham-rudman-hollings act...seems so long and so many $trillions ago.First, I cannot believe we agree on something. High five?
Second, I can absolutely believe our fedgov will throw its hands up and tell us we are out of money and there is no SS "safety net" moving forward. Kids will have their trump accounts, the generations in-between are on their own. I have modeled my retirement without SS, I DGAF about inheritance.
I am not a guy that worries about random things. The sky isn't falling, I live in reality. Our debt has increased from $19T to $40T since 2016. We have some HARD decisions to make, like right freaking now. But instead we are throwing $200B to ICE/BP in 18 months and this lovely war to pay for.
I thought Rs were fiscally conservative. What a joke.
You ain't a kiddin' brother.Don’t even get me started on what a full Costco run costs now.
ooooofff...I’ve got 4 teenagers. I definitely notice the grocery prices![]()
Pisses me off when they talk about all-time highs when they only last a few days before they reverse course. I'm down 14% since June 2nd but at least my account was high for a few days. The returns under Trump stink compared to Biden's term.Market bloodbath today. Thanks Don

well to be sure, trump's on again off again war, high fuel prices and tariffs are not helping, I'm still up about 4% through the first 7 months of the year. I was up about 5.5% before this Iran debacle. I'm in a conservative 50-50 portfolio, so my returns likely are not as high as you younger guys with more aggressive portfolios.Pisses me off when they talk about all-time highs when they only last a few days before they reverse course. 9%...and then steadily fell to 2.4%. You guys always leave that part out.
It has gone up since Trump was re-elected. Wasn't he supposed to "fix the inflation" or whatever nonsense MAGAs were spouting before the election?
Sure.Groceries cost whatever they cost,.. We purchase what we like.

Most, maybe with a few exceptions, would take the position that we need to do something about the deficits and the debt. Unfortunately we spend too much time debating which party is the worst, when in fact they both are guilty. We need to do something, unless the plan is just to inflate our way out of this.
Again, unfortunately, we'll debate the same tired positions - "Ds" cut defense, raise taxes on the wealthy: "Rs" cut the social programs, cut taxes. How have those intransigent positions worked out for us since 2000?
Democrats let inflation run to 9% under their admin!!!

And you very well know that Trump heavily contributed to it. Don’t get me wrong, Biden never should have issued more stimulus either. He deserves scorn for that and so does Trump. I blame them both.Democrats let inflation run to 9% under their admin!!!

I don't buy it.And you very well know that Trump heavily contributed to it. Don’t get me wrong, Biden never should have issued more stimulus either. He deserves scorn for that and so does Trump. I blame them both.
But, comparing that time to this is apples and oranges. That was a period of global inflation driven by a pandemic/pandemic stimulus with some key factors outside either man’s control. This time is VERY different.
- First on the promises: Trump promised deflation: lower PRICES. And a lot of people believed him. It was snake oil. At best he should have said lower inflation rate although even that would be silly since he was handed a relatively normal inflation rate
- Second, the world was relatively stable and prosperous when Trump took office. He was handed a good economy, falling inflation rates, no immediate threats to the US, etc.
- Third he deliberately introduced inflation causing chaos. Instead of actually focusing on the things that matter to voters (inflation, prices, economic reality), his every action exacerbated inflation - from tariffs to the Iran war to scaring immigrant workers underground.
It’s not that he tried and failed to achieve his promise. It’s that he literally did the opposite of what he promised on prices.
He’s a lying piece of sh*t. History will not be kind to Trump or the MAGA movement.

we love a good early morning crash out, don't we folksLook at this clown spinning out....

Again, we had an economy that was the envy of the world on election day, 2024, and Trump has trashed it. It's just almost unbelievable with the tariff policies Trump was explicitly running on that anyone could possibly think he was the "anti-inflation" candidate. Just absurd.
Almost like he wants to blow up the economy for personal gain. Everything he has done has been counter to lowering prices across the board. It makes no sense except 1. He knows his cult won't care and 2. He wants this pain so he can trade the other side. And you very well know that Trump heavily contributed to it. Don’t get me wrong, Biden never should have issued more stimulus either. He deserves scorn for that and so does Trump. I blame them both.

It was a hot mess and you know it.What did it fall to under the democrat president? Come on... you can do it. Is inflation higher or lower now than it was at the end of Biden's term? Are prices higher or lower now than the end of Biden's term?
Yes we know... "but in 2022....". You leave off the recovery. Just like your daddy.
The 25% loss in purchasing power delivered by Biden's inflationary spike was already baked into the economy on election day 2024,.. Trump's tariff policies didn't help.
It was a hot mess and you know it.
What did it fall to under the democrat president?
Trump played a major role in that inflationary spike. The seeds were already planted in 2020. Had Trump stolen the 2020 election you guys would be spinning the 9% inflation Trump would have "delivered" as being 100% Fauci's fault.
Doesn't really matter what it fell to,.. With inflation it's a combination of rate and duration, and under Biden inflation exploded and remained high enough, long enough, to destroy roughly 25% of the US consumer's purchasing power,... Joe broke it.
who is effing idiot that thinks inflation cooling down means prices go down?New York Post:
While inflation has cooled from its peak, grocery prices have not returned to where consumers remember them. Food prices have effectively reset to a permanently higher level after years of supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, transportation costs, and broad inflationary pressures.
