I kind of get it if you have kids to take, I took mine to some when they were growing up. But otherwise, I have ZERO interest in hearing preseason coach speak, hearing mumbling athletes answer the same questions other athletes at other schools get asked, getting any autographs, getting a schedule for my wallet, eating luke warm at best food, etc etc etc. The coach speak especially, I can't stand to hear those canned answers

I don't think y'all realize how unusual something like those coaching road shows or player extravaganzas being done away from campus is now.
They just don't happen outside of MS that I can find.

and there's a reason for that..............You can hear and read about the team on any of a number of media outlets out there, the university has multiple account for each team on X, Insta, TikTok, Facebook. Coaches have their accounts, independent reporters have them, athletes have them. There's no reason to parade the coaches and players around the countryside for multiple days

I think this is a case of Salmon pinching pennies, cutting cost. Also the Mississippi State fan base being totally checked out.

people joke about USM having 10 fans. But we shall see how many State fans show up at Davis Wade.

With so much vying for our attention these days, i just don't see how there's be much interest in a big event like this. A private event/dinner in a smaller setting with a coach or the AD speaking could still draw a crowd, years ago we had some type of gathering at the Light House in Ridgeland (not sure if it still hosts events) that was well attended. But who wants to be around a bunch of obnoxious kids wanting autographs?

I thought the individual chapter meetings of the Bulldog Club/Alumni Association with Jackie Sherrill were much more intimate and informational. We had the Delta meetings in Leland at the Armory and I sat directly across from Jackie at a long table. At that time it was like being in the presence of Football Royalty.

Last one they had in Olive Branch was very rushed and felt blown off.

It was a small hotel meeting room with 50-60 people. Bart Gregory opened the meeting and spoke for 10-15 minutes. Selmon and Lebby walked in late. They spoke for about 5-10 minutes each. After they spoke, they had to catch a flight to Atlanta and left before the meeting was over. Gregory told a few more jokes to close things. Meeting over in under an hour. No chances to speak to Selmon or meet Lebby.

Agree 100%. Sports journalism in general is uninteresting and dying because of all the “media training” and general coach speak answers all the time. Journalists can’t ask any actual hard questions because they will lose their credentials/invites to press conferences. Their attempts to get anything interesting are answered with the most vanilla answers. With SEC media days you could bleep out names and then you could interchange every team and not know the difference.

It’s also not just because everything is out there already with social media. They just refuse to do or share anything that actually builds excitement. For instance, I could understand not broadcasting a spring game when there was a spring portal window, but since they closed that, there was no reason to remain so closed off with it. Even with what they actually did, there was hardly any interesting coverage of it because of the format and general need to explain each aspect. The only real insight of it that I could find was that K1 looked pretty good but said he should be better. **Chillbump inducing**

Everything about college sports has gotten worse except for the actual games.

With that said, there are a few interesting things out there that I enjoy and wish we had more: Matt Wyatt’s game breakdowns, Cole Cubelics updates on Sundays/Mondays after the games, Barstools Unnecessary Roughness/Brandon Walkers college football show. I generally listen to Thunder & Lightning every day on my work commute and it’s great but to no fault of their own, I basically know what they are going to say about everything they talk about so it’s just not enough alone.

I just wish there were more things of people shooting the **** talking about sports than following a basic formula.

Need more Jackie, Curley Hallman and Joe Lee Dunn getting drunk and telling stories at the events like the old days. They would all be sold out.

Only teams with expectations can get away with these hype meetings. But in year 3 I would think our AD would at least be trying to pump up the season.
