Exactly. What MAGA people fail to realize is that most people don’t see the world as black and white as they do. One can know for certainty that Trump is a mess on Iran and still not trust ”the dems”. IMO that is a reflection of the ineptitude of dem leaders like Schumer and Jeffries (both of whom are deep into AIPAC money) and not an indication that somehow people trust Trump.

Beating dem leaders by 2 points on a trust poll is not worth celebrating because in November it won’t be a generic “Dems vs GOP”. It will be a bake-off between 2 specific people in every district. If they would look around they would realize many, if not most, Dems can’t stand the notional dem ”leaders”, but that disdain typically does not extend to their representative. Particularly when a divisive figure like Trump sits in the Oval Office.
I'm still trying to get a definition of what folks call MAGA...is that a Republican, someone who voted for trump, someone who agrees with trump 100% of the time? Who exctly are you referring to,

I ask, because it seems to me that most of those who refer to MAGA have different definitions.

I'm sure there are some, but IMO very few people agree with everything Trump says or does.

What they refuse to understand is the reason Dem Congressional approval is so low is because Democrats are angry that they didn't stop Trump from winning a second term and they don't feel like they're fighting him hard enough now. But that has nothing to do with the candidates in the fall, many of which will be new faces. Somehow, they can't separate those two things in their minds and they falsely believe that current congressional polling means Dems can't win in November.
I'm sure you're at least partially right, but you might be overlooking the fact that a lot just don't like Democrats positions on issues...most Americans don't want open borders and want those in the country illegally to be deported, for example.

Most don't want socialism..and right or wrong the democrats now are directly tied to that philosophy.

To be fair, I don't think leaders or rank and file members provide every thing that everybody wants...that would be almost an impossibility. Voters, for the most part, other than rabid party members who just vote the party line, look for the candidates that they think will make their lives and the lives of their family members better.

Sounds like most american's don't actually understand democratic positions, they've just accepted what the loudest on the right are screaming.

One of my biggest gripes of the Dem leadership, they've completely allowed the right to control the message on a lot of this stuff.

Definition is simple. Someone who still supports Trump. That, unfortunately, is still most Republicans.

First of all, it's a falsehood to claim that Dems want open borders just because Biden managed it poorly, when that's not true at all, in fact, Trump shutting it down is considered his best accomplishment by many on the Left. Don't let Biden's lax enforcement color your beliefs about what the party itself wants.

Secondly, Dem Congressional approval ratings could never get that low without Dem disapproval, so you're making a mistake by tying that number to Republican opinion only - they will always disapprove no matter the policies.

I've found this fascinating with Ned's posts on the subject- he held his nose to vote for Trump, doesn't really like the guy, but still parrots maga's propaganda/talking points as if they're fact.

People who voted Trump in 2024 are MAGA under my definition. You knew what an awful human being he is and decided to put him in office anyway when you could have voted third party, not voted or (gasp) voted for the brown woman with a crazy laugh

You are MAGA under my definition Ned. Now, there are degrees of MAGA and for me you are one of the rare ones who can introspectively recognize flaws in Trump. Many either cannot or will not do that much. So perhaps I should have said “what MOST MAGA” and not generalized like I did in my post.

There is no established leader of the Democrats right now which is typical in a midterm year when party is out of power.

In 2018, same deal. Blue wave.

Messaging is not national in this case, it's up to local good candidates to craft their message to the voters in their race.
Sand and Turek are moderate Dems...they will not be going with the DSA platform spelled out by the DSA 's national co- chair yesterday in interview on Fox.
Her policy prescriptions include:

No prisons
No police
No ICE
Total amnesty
No borders
Govt control of all private business.

That message will not work outside of a few isolated precincts, imo

Yeah, I was talking to an ultra progressive family member the other day who was singing the DSA’s praises. I mentioned some of the extreme outlier policies and they loudly informed me that was not the position of most progressives. Fair enough - I can appreciate that.

The problem is: that IS the position of some very loud and public progressive voices and the average American is not discerning enough to appreciate the nuance. Especially not with Fox and crew putting the extreme message on blast. So once again the Dems could potentially suffer a branding problem that affects support from independent moderates.

As an independent moderate myself there is zero chance I would vote for a DSA candidate unless they disavow the extreme views. Now I will do the research to know the policies of politicians in my district, but I guarantee most voters will not.

That's just dumb. If Dems supported everything he did, how did his poll numbers drop so low and why did they force him to step down? Does this mean we supported the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan because Joe was President? Think...

I'm not saying I don't support some of their policies and I understand the reason for their rise is due to an extreme reaction to the current administration's extremes that ignore the needs of the common man but that interview on Sunday will be played on a loop from now until election day...no president, no Senate, no prisons, no border, no police - What the actual F?!

Biden was forced to "step down" because his Dem power brokers could no longer hide the fact that he had gone full potato. They had no choice,.. Regarding his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan,.. Yes, numerous posters here on this site supported Biden's actions at the time...

you're right...there are numerous things in our system that are socialism, or border on socialism, and we are OK with that. Likely, before your time Bush 1 ran on the concept of compassionate conservatism, which maintained the overarching principles of capitalism, with the underlying principles of the social safety net.

Exactly.
Read a column in this week's edition of Farm News by farm economist Alan Guebert as where he laid out facts according to USDA.

In 2019 and 2020,trump years after tariffs federal farm program payments totalled 69 billion.
Under Biden in 4 years the total was 64 billion.
Under trump in 2025 and 2026 combined payments will be 86.6 billion.

That means in last 4 years under trump taxpayers will pay a total of 155.6 billion.

Last 4 years under Biden was 64 billion.

Net farm income i(NFI)s best indicator of agriculture financial health.

Yr. NFI % govt support

2019. 82 billion. 28%
2020. 99 bi. 47%
2021. 146 bi. 17%
2022. 182 bi. 8%

Socialism? Trump is a huge socialist in agriculture.....Biden is the free trading free market icon next to Trump.
