I dgaf about Indiana. There is a formula that works here, but go ahead, keep chasing shiny objects.
So... you're telling me that the wonder kid Trae Taylor cant run for a 1st down when needed? I have no idea....I haven't seen him play. He certainly sounds like a 7 v 7 world beater ----no running for a 1st down there for sure.

I agree about the inundation with WR recruits and the hesitancy to recruit and sign O-line and D-line high level talent.

5 wins at the most this season...and then we get to suffer more of Rhule as he will hold the keys to the Lamborghini known at Trae Taylor----Rhule has proven that he should not be trusted with the keys to a 1974 Dodge Dart.

Trae Taylor’s rushing stats are pretty impressive. Hopefully it translates to the P4.

So what’s the formula? We signed a dual threat QB. Tom has said many times that IF he had continued coaching he was likely going to morph his offense in to something similar to the read option offenses. We’ve had the potential for the QB run game and Raiola wouldn’t run.

you don't know the formula? Raiola can't run, never could.. and backwards hat Matt is doing it again.

Taylor isn't slow

this is against high schoolers.. I don't know how fast or slow he is..

is he a legitimate running threat? The kind where defenses have to put another guy on him? It's one thing to scramble ala T-mart (that was a nice play by Trae), but T-mart was a legit run threat, even on a bum ankle.

To be honest, I'll be surprised if TT ever plays at Nebraska. He says the right things, he's doing the right things, Elite 11 MVP, the move to play senior ball in Omaha is kinda weird.. is that where he is going to really get developed the most? 5th star and all.. it makes me want to flip the other way.. Rhule chasing another gold 5 star, can't miss, etc, etc When things look too good to be true, they usually are.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but isn't every high school players film against high schoolers?

Is Rhule "chasing" him though, kid moved to Lincoln for his senior year.
yes.. Rhule is like every other boneheaded coach we have.. will try to copy Indiana's formula.. instead of the one that actually is known to work at Nebraska..

I mean how stupid do you have to be to get a HC job at Nebraska, and think you're going to put in a pro style offense.

yeah.. the point is, most good runners in HS do not look like good runners at the next level.. you can't tell based on a few plays where the competition he is facing likely has zero if 1 or 2 D1 athletes on the team.. What is he going to face in Omaha? What would he face in Texas? or Georga?

Depends on the level and the district. There are a lot of good teams down here, but there are also a whole bunch of bad teams in Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio proper.

You are pushing an agenda. You think that the only way Nebraska can win is the way Osborne won. Taylor's perceived style doesn't fit what you believe is the only way to win at Nebraska. Taylor played 3 years in Chicagoland, fared pretty well there. Is he a 100% guaranteed success? Of course not, but to just poo poo his video because he is not the type of QB you believe is needed, doesn't make you correct, it just makes you look petty. IMHO

Not pushing Osborne.. but I am pushing what has worked here. A competitive mobile QB. Every time we have a competitive mobile QB, we do well, regardless of what coaching staff we have in place.

I don't know how TT is going to work out.. but I do see similarities to the whole Raiola scenario.. we aren't stacking running backs, there is the ever present poor RB coaching and recruiting, and the offensive line was finally addressed, when it should have been year 1.

I don't really care what you call it.. I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of fans defending the losing. I'm excited for this year only.. but on the horizon, I don't see anything that has fundamentally changed. That's petty? when the administration is having ticket fire sales in July?

C'mon.. you used to be a sharp guy.

Every Husker fan is tired of losing. You aren’t unique. I don’t see a lot of defending. You’re choosing to take the strange route that somehow having Trae Taylor, the #1 ranked QB in the nation, is a bad thing. Just because DR didn’t live up to the hype, doesn’t mean TT is somehow destined for the same results. I’ll take every damn 5 star QB we’ll ever be able to land. Turner Gill would have been a 5 star. Tommie Frazier was a 5 star. Everybody complains about lack of talent on the roster and somehow having TT committed is a bad thing.

And let’s be clear, TT is light years more athletic than DR. Clear as day.

I see a lot of hype, and I see a kid who chose to play in Omaha in order to be closer to the program, than going somewhere that would challenge him more or where he might get better development.. it's a safe move.

I will not take every 5 star player.. talent for talent's sake doesn't make much sense, unless they fit your system. We don't actually have a system, or if we do, it's a very poor one.

I look back at players like Crouch, Ganz, & TMart.. gutsy, competitive, and were a running threat. You could put Armstrong in that category too, but he got shortchanged by the system change, and Ganz wasn't really a mobile guy, but became one, and had all the grit and made things happen.

Contrast that with AM.. gifted athletically, but not a competitor. And if you've been paying attention to who is in the QB room now, there is clearly 1 competitive guy, who is also mobile.

I'm not sure how TT is going to turn out, but he's a good talker, a great talker actually.. sort of like the HC. Carmel Catholic went 8-3 last year. I don't know what kind of competition they have there. I'm guessing it's low. If it was a super competitive league, maybe that makes more sense.
Not saying he doesn't have strengths.. we can sort of see those already, with little to see visually. Maybe he has more rabbits to pull out of the hat.. cool if he does.

What I'm really more focused on is the head clown. He fell into the current situation with QB1.. the guy they were going after was Jeff Simms 2.0. He allowed a coach who instantly upgraded the team to walk away, then handed the job to GA.

How long will the OL coach last? That's been 1 great decision, surrounded by a bunch of other bad ones. No RB in the portal, no real work on the Dline.. I have no idea how the defense shapes up, if at all.

I once said Rhule can be successful in spite of himself, and I think that is this year.. but it doesn't mean that Rhule is now hitting on every cylinder.. he's not.. and then you have the AD also robbing the program and begging for ticket sales after he blew up the way tickets worked.

Most think this season will be crap, and maybe it will be.. I don't think so, but I haven't seen anything fundamentally change other than a new Line coach, and how long does he last, when the HC considers himself a line coach too and people start praising him big time this year. That is what happened to the special teams coach.. and Rule, can't stand that. He's shown it.

what a chicken ****
You just continue to figure out reasons why having the #1 ranked QB in the land committed to Nebraska is a bad thing. You can’t even give objective reasoning why it’s bad, just a bunch of rambling feelings and thoughts “why.” Have a good day.

3 Ws only gets you to 10-13th. That poll hasn’t been all that accurate. Our team has to earn respect. Until then I don’t give a sheet where they rank us.
What is really accurate? Historically, it is easy to put Oregon, Michigan and Ohio St. in the top 5. Then any combo of USC, Iowa, Penn St, Illinois in the next group. You are already 7 deep and you haven't even looked at Wisconsin, Minnesota, Washington etc.. Now you have Indiana who appears to be a top 5 team every year where they weren't before. The league is fairly deep and with 18 teams, the number of teams that will finish either 4-5 or 5-4 is going to be around 6 every year.

If Nebraska is 4-5 in the league this year, and finishes in the top 11, they would have to beat the 3 teams that dude referred to (Rutgers, Michigan St and Maryland) and also beat either Iowa, Washington, Indiana, Oregon, Ohio St or Illinois. 3-6 in the league isn't getting you a top 11 finish.

If we have no running game because EJ is gone, the UNLV QB reverts to a turnover machine because he is running for his life, and the defense gives up big plays because it's new, then it's going to be a long season. It could have been even worse if we kept the game against Tennessee.

Just take a look at the preseason all B1G teams.

Until they can significantly upgrade talent or solve the player development albatross; the red Kool-Aid turns yellow.

Agree 100%. And It's development over recruiting in our case. Other than last year, the recruiting rankings have been top 25 I believe. Not great, but good enough to be a ranked team, beat sub-500 teams, etc and get a few players on 1st 2nd or 3rd All Conference teams. There's no way the recruiting rankings are this far off every single season. Or that only Nebraska has overrated recruits. It's coaching and development.

Here's my glass half full. When the right coaches show up (Geep, Aurich, DL coach?) the pre-season rankings will still reflect what we've had and what we've done in recent years. There's not usually a crystal ball for new assistant coaches who can develop that launches players onto All Conference teams. The coaches have to DO the development and prove it. So it doesn't surprise me we don't have any luv this preseason. I expect some breakout players this season with better coaching and development.

If there's still limited to no player development like Rhule has shown us I will be pissed all over again and calling for his head. But this is my point - I think these coaches will raise the bar a bit. Fingers crossed

That’s a good thing. Dana is an innovator and UNLV’s offense is from the same tree as Dana’s. I love the clips from Andy Reid where he talks about using plays he has stolen from college or that were given to him by a janitor. He took one I think from a janitor, ran it during a game and they scored on it.
then we need to hire better janitors?
