Opinions (and musical tastes) will differ. Here’s what Rolling Stone magazine thinks:

1. Allman Brothers - at Fillmore East
2. Johnny Cash - at Folsom Prison
3. MC5 - Kick Out The Jams
4. Grateful Dead - Live/Dead
5. James Brown - Live at the Apollo
6. The Who - Live at Leeds
7. Led Zeppelin - How The West Was Won
8. Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live
9. Cheap Trick - at Budokan
10. Ramones - Its Alive

My list would include:

Little Feat - Waiting For Columbus
Jimmy Buffett - You Had To Be There
Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive
The Band - The Last Waltz

To get those four in I’m kicking out MC5, Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, and Ramones.

I've never agreed much with Rolling Stone lists. As a lifelong guitar player and attending well over 100 concerts and a collection of 2000 CDs I had to laugh at that list. I agree with the 4 you kicked out and 3 of the ones you added. I was never a Buffet fan. MC5 at #3? Lmfao

Any list without The Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya-Yas Out is bogus.

Led Zeppelin was a terrible live band. Queen was awesome live as was Fleetwood Mac early in their career. I could name quite a few I find better than their top 10 but it's all opinion anyway so I won't.

Not having The Last Waltz in there discredits the entire list. I also don't understand the chronology. You're telling me we haven't had a Top 10 live album in 40 years?

Thanks. I meant to mention that album and forgot. I like my Bob Dylan and The Band live album as well.

I agree and I included The Last Waltz on my personal list. But I’m still not sure it’s truly a live album as much as it is a documentary film soundtrack.
