If Beamer fails to meet expectation and is let go

As I said above, I'll wait to see how the season goes before talking replacements. However, IF Beamer is canned after this season, it will be largely because of his ill-fated decision to retain Teasley. Twice. It was painfully obvious after his first season that he was not cut out to be an SEC OL coach. It was just plain as day. His second season, it was almost as if he was coaching the OL to force Beamer to fire him and pay a buyout. Yet he was retained........AND GIVEN A RAISE. Truly, one of the worst OL in all of college football...and that's not hyperbole....and we gave him a raise. Beamer only fired him in his 3rd season when he simply had no other option.

It might be too little too late. I think we got a massive upgrade in OL coach, but we're cobbling together an almost entirely new OL from the portal.

I said it at the time and I'll reiterate it here: I believer Beamer mistakenly gambled his future as an SEC head coach on Lonnie Teasley.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think moving on from Sellers and Harbor will be advantageous for the offense. Both are great athletes but neither is a great football player at the positions Beamer is letting them play.

If Briles can find a decent QB, an actual QB, not a great athlete RB who is playing QB and a true talented WR, not a TE/DE track star who wants to be a WR, his offense will probably be pretty good.
Our O would benefit from Harbor at TE on most sets. Puts another deep threat on the field. We can motion him in or out as a TE. If Sellars evr turns his back on the line of scrimmage he needs to sit.

I simply think 5-7 this season in the SEC is not the appropriate time to jettison Beamer. To me there is still that glimmer of spark and potential until proven otherwise, unlike it was with Muschamp, Scott, or Woods. I’d like to see it mature a little longer myself; what do we have to lose.
Yeah, since they have to keep paying him no matter what, let him hang around and see if he can learn the job.

How does a supposed major college football program get into a position like this?

I agree wirh most of what you said with the exceptions of two statements:

(1) “He is a great athlete, but not an SEC level QB.“
The jury is still out on Sellers. He’s thrown for 5,000 yds, run for 1,000 and accounted for 43 TD’s in two years. Not on fire but definitely has potential if Briles can unleash another aspect we’ve not seen.

(2) “Unfortunately, I think Beamer is a 5-7 regular season wins coach“
Beamer is averaging over 6 wins and he’s yet to have a good OC and OL coach. He’s won 7, 8, and 9 games in 5 years (two dismal years excluded) so it’s possible his ceiling is higher.

Maybe I’m just being optimistic and you may turn out to be right. No one really knows yet.
1. Briles will be the master chicken salad creator if he can turn him into a legit SEC QB.

2. Let's be honest, the 9 win season should have been 7 wins. Tennessee gave the game to us, they didn't take SC seriously at all coming in to the game. Clemson should have won the game that season as well, it was miraculous to win that game.

If it happens, then its 3 losing seasons out of 4, with one 9 win season in there.

I get that the 9 win seaon would give hope, but 3 out 4 would be very damning in my mind.

Granted, I am not the AD.

I do get frustrated at the idea of him maturing, or still learning. He's entering his 7th season as an SEC head coach.

Too much bad gets blamed on Teasley and Shula. The propensity to blame assistant coaches for poor results is a hallmark of gamecock fandom. The decisions to hire and retain coaches solely belongs to Beamer.

The new OL will be interesting to see. An all transfer OL will need a really good OL coach to get good play out of in the first season. It will be interesting to see how players from NC State, UCF, Purdue, Missouri State and Northern Arizona fare in the SEC week in and week out. Surratt had flashes as a freshman, but he wasn't a star in any way.

If a decent RB threat doesn't emerge, the OL play won't matter much.

Of course Beamer is to blame. You're misunderstanding my post. Teasley was an ABYSMAL OL coach who had no business being anywhere near an SEC OL. Beamer is the one who hired him. That's the point of my post.

That aside, yes, Teasley was objectively an awful OL coach. I don't see a remotely plausible argument to the contrary.

He's entering his 6th season. Still, he shouldn't be making $8 million a year as an apprentice head coach.

I agree, Teasely was bad. I think he was basically stealing his pay the whole time he was here. He had some apparent recruiting wins that turned out to be nothing, but, otherwise, he really didn't do anything.

Teasley is now run game coordinator at Nebraska. You should read his bio on their website. It will make you regret his being fired.

I think Beamer got some of the current hires right. If not, I can't see giving it another go round next season. At some point you have to accept that what you have it what you're gonna get.

He's made enough money here that he'd never have to work again if he were fired after this season.

I am still very curious about the injuries to two of the very big pieces on that OL.

Peak may be back at some point, Thompson is out for the season. Lower body injuries are tough on O linemen. They have so much weight to put on the lower leg joints and the twisting and turning during play can easily lead to reinjury.

Stewart's back issues also merit keeping an eye on.

Is that official? That Thompson is out? If so, thats a mighty big blow to the OL.

I agree, Beamer's decision to retain Teasley after such bad seasons were very costly mistakes. I also think Beamer's inability to make good hiring decisions with regards to his offensive coordinator is another issue. I also agree with someone else's opinion, I think Donati is trying to help Beamer be successful here.

Patterson wasn't fired for not winning games.
Regardless, he was fired. And his program had definitely regressed during his last 4 seasons there. Donati is not shy about pulling the trigger. He does what has to be done.

Curious why you think he was? I didn't remember much else other than his several year struggle, so I looked it up, and couldn't find anything other than articles about how his win total was dropping.

Granted, it was a brief search.

I, too, looked it up and found nothing scandalous.

at the end of the season, who would you want to take his place?
i think yall putting the cart before the horse. my opinion, Beamer made the right hires this time, hes recruiting well and i think they win no less than 7 this year, im thinking 8 or 9 if the oline improves and im fairly confident it will. i know for some reason some here dont like Beamet i believe he will be here a while and he will do well

When TCU left the Mountain West and went to the Big XII, they only had 3 season out of 10 with more than 7 wins. It is pretty obvious winning a lot of games wasn't top of mind for TCU.

He officially resigned after being told he wouldn't be retained in 2022. I think he and TCU simply got tired of each other.

It’s pure speculation to say he didn’t. And, it’s pure speculation to say he did. We don’t know. However, I sure wouldn’t pay a coach $8 million to hold his hand.

My speculation leans toward a joint meeting of the minds and using Donati‘s advice and connections to improve the offense. I simply can’t see a situation where Donati pulled rank and demanded certain people be hired. It would be counter productive to micro-manage a HC and diminish his authority with his staff.

I would believe the joint meeting of the minds idea, coupled with the connections.

Its splitting hairs whether that was hand holding or micro managing.
