USA’s second game is tonight at 8:00 ET vs.the Haudenosaunee, which defeated Chinese Taipei 10-8 in its opening Group A game.

After a cursory review, It appears to me that a $44 charge provides live access to all games in the tournament.

The North won the women's lacrosse AA game yesterday. CeCe Powell scored two goals that I saw while watching. The North's defense was outstanding. Gaelle Jones looked very good on the defensive end. Elizabeth Smith scored a goal as well. Go Heels!

There were two upsets and a near-upset in the other three quarterfinals. Israel upset Australia 12-11 and will face the US in one semifinal. In the other semi, Canada eked out a 5-4 win over Japan and will meet the Haudenosaunee, which upset England 10-9. Here is an article:

Wow, this is incredible but scary. The world is starting to catch up with the super powers in lacrosse. This is what happens when some of those countries' players are coming to the US and attending our high school and colleges and are playing lacrosse. I think it is good for the game as long as they do not upset us, but as with anything, anybody get get beaten on any given day if you do not show up.

Unsurprisingly, the USA will play Canada for the championship on Sunday. The Canadians defeated the Haudenosaunee 18-5 in the semis.

The Canadian and Americans have not met in the tourney. (The bracketing for the 2026 Women’s Lacrosse World Cup has been different. In prior tournaments, the US and Canada met in Group play.)

IIRC, on the 22 player USA roster, BC had eight players while UNC had 6. (Carolina had 10 players and a high school commit spread across various tournament rosters.) Without a doubt, BC has produced some excellent women's lacrosse players. On the other hand, I suspect that the BC coach views her players more favorably than other coaches might. But in fairness, there was not a single BC alum on the roster who did not deserve to be there. (There are a lot of women’s lacrosse players in the US who could also justify having a roster spot.)

Of course, BC's coach did that. Name me a coach who would not put more players from their team on the USA team if they are the head coach. I do not have a problem with that because as someone just pointed out. The BC players that are on the USA team should rightfully be on the USA team IMO. Those players were awesome when the played at BC. Remember, BC has one more than one lacrosse NCAA championship. In order for them to have done that, BC had to have had some tremendous talent. The main thing is we won and the USA was well represented. We had the second most players on the USA team and we had at least 10 players playing in the whole tournament. The ACC was well represented on the USA team, so I give the BC head coach props for recognizing the greatness of our conference.

Chloe Humphrey and Marie McCool made the All-World for USA along with Brooklyn Walker-Welch for Canada.

UNC rising junior Eliza Osburn had an impressive tournament. The announcers were quoting some of Acacia W-W’s glowing comments - about Osburn being electric on offense and tough/physical on defense. She was the youngest player on the team (and I believe the youngest woman to represent the USA in the World Cup). I won’t be surprised if she rachets up her play in the spring.

Defenders Sam Forrest and Brooklyn Walker-Welch have spent five years at Carolina so presumably they are not eligible.

Three other players - Darcy Felter, Caroline Godine and Kiley Mottice — all have graduated, and would seem to be eligible. The status of other players, e.g., Tess Calabria, would probably impact any decision. Then there is the question of how many roster slots are actually available. Furthermore, UNC has a lot of talented young players who would be thwarted if a 5th year player was retained.

Which leads me to the conclusion that I wouldn’t want to speculate on this topic because there are so many unknowns.

EDIT - IIRC, Felter and Mottice have played in the WLL, which probably eliminates them from 5th year consideration. I assume playing in a professional league forfeits amateur status?

Those three players you just mentioned all signed to play professionally now if my memory serves me right. For them to come back would be insane. Also, they are playing professionally now and who would want to come back and risk getting hurt now since they have accomplished their main goal which is to play professionally. They will be getting paid now which is better than a partial scholarship to come back. Also, Jeny and staff just got three great transfers coming in along with the number 1 recruiting class coming in. IMO, the roster is set and some of our freshman last year will have a chance to start this year or get a lot of playing time this upcoming season. I think Reese King, Dwyer, Magday, Sophie S, and Rathjen will get a lot of playing time and there is a possibility that one or two of them will start. Also, I expect these two freshmen, CeCe Powell, and Gaelle Jones to get some playing time. Jones on the defensive end.

There is speculation that Madison Taylor will return to Northwestern for a fifth year. She was drafted into the WLL, but never actually put on a uniform or played.

We will have to wait and see. I do not see why she would want to come back for a 5th year. She won everything this past season. She won the National Championship game. She won the Tewaaraton award, etc. There is nothing else for her to accomplish on the college level. She needs to move on and start playing professionally as well as move on with her life. The only thing that she would be doing is preventing a player behind her from learning and growing.

I hope she does not return because I am sick and tire of the analyst and media saying Maddie Taylor this and Maddie Taylor that. It is time for someone else to shine. Also, they will give her the awards again thereby cheating Chloe Humphrey twice if she was to return. We all know that Chloe got cheated from the Tewaaraton recently and we got rob by the no calls or lack of calls in the national championship game. It it more than time for her to move on, period.
