And I barely knew his name before watching the penultimate stage yesterday. He’s the youngest to get to 5 at just short of 28 years old.

A reminder that Armstrong’s 7 consecutive wins are no longer recognized.

I didn’t realize that Armstrong “won” it that many times. I casually follow cycling during the Tour de France so I’m not sure how deep the talent is right now, but I don‘t think anyone has really given Pogacar a challenge at all.

Apparently he’s one of those rare dudes who is top level in all cycling disciplines. Can win speed stages and can climb like a goat.

The replay of the final stage in Paris is on NBC right now.

It’s a beautiful race to watch. Unfortunate the doping has been such a cloud over the competition for so long.

And it’s rearing its ugly head again BIGTIME. But Pogi and Vindegard have no rivals in the stage races.

they both got tested in the middle of the night right before one of the hardest stages. Micro dosing HGH is what they are looking for and suspecting. Coincidentally, the French have 19 year old Paul Seixas who is being hailed as the next force. He don’t make podium this year but made a hell of a showing for his age. Youngest cyclist in TdF since the 30s.

The finish of that final stage was pretty great. The Yellow Jersey and the eventual stage winner were in a two man breakaway for the last many miles.

The field of riders looks ready to swallow them in the last few hundred meters, and van der Poel put the hammer down and barely held off the sprinters at the line.

Usually the field catches the breakaway in these kind of stages and a sprintng specialist wins.

All true …. But it’s not often to you see Pogi and Vanderpoal (world champion road racer) in a 2 man breakaway. Amd if you look
closely - I believe Jasper could have taken it but let his teammate get the win and the glory - he let up. A direct payback in an earlier stage where Jasper won his stage. Class even if you don’t like him.

PEDs are a lot more complicated than they’re made out to be in all sports.

If you’re at the very top of your profession and you know others you are competing with for your livelihood are breaking rules to gain an advantage, the pressure to at least even the playing field is probably enormous.

Pogacar is not of this world :alien:. Great tour from del Torro & Remco (unfortunate for Jonas). Carapaz 🚵‍♂️road like a man possesed.

Doping of some form or fashion has been in cycling forever. It ramped up in 1996. And although everybody was doping back then Armstrong just did it better.

MVDP is a beast.
Remco is a beast.

The amount of power these guys put out, and their endurance, is so impressive.

Not everyone was doped back then.
He took team spots, glory, and millions of dollars away from others.
He kept others from being on teams and having shots at glory.

The guy had gobs of talent, that isn't debatable.
I just don't think what he did in hindsight should be looked at with awe or even respect.
Toxic is an apt description for him.

The guy basically ruined LeMond's business with Trek.
And he actively worked to ruin the lives of others who questioned his clean claims.

When I say toxic, I mean his impact on the team.
Him personally?...yeah, I agree with you- total asshóle.
Being an asshóle is why he was OK with creating and perpetuating such a toxic situation as the leader of that team.

Yeah, the announcers kept praising his descent skills so I thought he was gonna bring that stage win home, but…



That net may have legit saved his life here…
