On NBA TV right now. Peach Jam

Playing team that beat them in Vegas when Cayden sat out and DNP to rest as he was dealing with jet lag.

Released as of today. As far as exactly when it was recorded, you'll have to ask LOH about that or maybe TK. Can you tell us @TomKakert when this episode was taped?
We recorded it this week. Our On3 forecast has him at 39% to Iowa, which is comfortably ahead. Having Iowa as his only official visit so far helps.

I have him at 45% on our recruiting hot board. Didn't even check the other one before updating it.

I would be shocked if he picks Iowa. Not because of the coach or supporting cast (because they are first class). He is going to get life changing money thrown at him, and honestly Iowa geographically, isn’t all that great. We need to slow our horses down slightly and be a little more realistic. I will get roasted for this post, and someone had to say it. If we don’t get him that is ok we will be fine, because quite honestly, we have in my opinion, a top 5 coach in college basketball.

The nice thing about being a fan is we don’t have to slow anything down, take it one game at a time, or any other sports cliche. We aren’t players or coaches.

The positive from this is that you can tell what is most important to someone. It's either the money, or it's dedication to learning to be the best at what you do, and the work you're willing to put in to achieve that. The bigger money can come later, but with NIL, you'll get a paycheck from OJT.

I wouldn’t be shocked either way tbh.

BMC is already developing a reputation as one of the top coaches in the business. Kids are taking notice. And now that BMC has a year at Iowa under his belt, he has had time to establish longer relationships with prospects.

In the end, money is going to be the difference, of course. However, I believe if this kid is sincere about wanting to come to Iowa to play for BMC, BMC will find a way to get enough money together to be competitive enough with other offers so that the difference would be nominal. Now, granted, if the kid is just looking for the biggest payday possible, then Iowa is on the outside looking in. I have a hard time believing, though, the kid would be this interested in playing at Iowa knowing other schools have larger NIL budgets. So, we’ll see. But if this kid is as good as advertised, he’s jumping to the NBA after one year in college, regardless, so it’s certainly possible BMC could find a way to break the bank for a one-year rental.

To be clear, I am not claiming to be an expert, but all of this has a much different feel to it than the era of “Cool, let us know when Fran gets to pick up his participation trophy” recruiting buzz.

I will add one more thing: It sounds like BMC is also developing a reputation as being guard-friendly. And it also sounds like Bennett Stirtz is being instrumental in that recruiting pitch, which, if I remember correctly from what I read, he is making to CD. (It got TC here—see below.)

Oh, and I just got off a cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale last week. It’s hot as a MFer down there. Some kids who grew up in only hot weather might like to experience a taste of all four seasons and their first experience with snow. I have heard it from young people before. Just saying…🤷‍♂️

I agree with what you’re saying, and I just know the bag that will be thrown at this kid will be astronomical. As an athlete, you cannot guarantee you won’t get hurt and not make it to the next level. The best strategy is to get paid the most you can NOW. The Wild West NIL is killing Iowa’s opportunities and until that is completely reigned in we will have close to a zero percent chance of landing someone of his caliber in my opinion. I could be completely wrong and I hope I am, but it’s just what it is. I think it’s really positive Ben has been able to at least get these caliber of players to consider us, that is extremely impressive in it’s own right. Don’t listen to these Iowa talking heads trying to convince you we have a snowballs chance…they know we don’t. They are just hype machines for the university….

I seem to remember kids in their last year getting insurance in case they got hurt and couldn't perform for a FB or BB draft. Is that available? If so, with a decent NIL package he could buy insurance that would still set him up if he gets injured.

And he's related to Banks and CJ Jones, we are his only visit so far and we have a lead on others...at least for the moment.
I think we have a chance. I am not saying that we don’t. I thinks it’s very small. I will be the first one to come on here and admit it when I am wrong. I am trying to temper my expectations and face the reality of the competition.

I agree with most of your post…except I think CD will be slightly more than a “one & done” player as he needs to work on his strength and a few other things. Quite possibly a two-year college player tho. 🤔

Tom’s board has a 45% chance of landing this kid, which I don’t consider a “very small” chance.

Ok, we will see. I would be the first one to jump up and down and celebrate if we got him. I don’t think it will happen.
IMHO I would say that a 45% chance is reasonable at this point. Now, how he responds to more lucrative offers he receives before committal is the unknown factor. :)

We are probably at that level because he has only scheduled one official to Iowa so far. Did take unofficials to Michigan & Miami though. Said he may take 5-6 officials. If that happens I would expect the % rate to decline

Feelings are still influenced by the Fran effect. Hoping Ben is going to finally lay that to rest with a recruit like this. Could very well happen. Hang on to your britches.......

Take away Bennett Stirtz and the last time Iowa had a lead guard/point guard who could score and create (at a high level) was Andre Woolridge.

He last played at Iowa in 1997.

That pre-dates Fran by a long time.
History says Cayden Daughtry will not come to Iowa. I tend to agree with it, and would be the first to admit I am wrong.

I swear on this forum there at least 10 University burner accounts that troll constantly. It’s the same user names that laugh at your post or try and public shame you when you don’t agree with them. They know our chances are slim in getting this kid, but it’s their job to create hype for the program along with the local media. I hate that they try and control the narrative all the time…..like it actually hurts your credibility when you openly lie all the time.

I think we got a decent shot with this kid. We’ll have to come up with some money. How much I don’t know. But it will be more than $1
million
