Matt Rhule saved the football program

We're gonna have a great year because of the players on this roster, not necessarily because of backwards hat Matt.

The following year is going to be a disaster if we don't have Colandrea back.

TT is going to be another disaster. Nebraska only has kick *** teams when they have a competitive mobile QB.

We will never be a good pro style team, and Rhule is still a dogshit game day coach.

Every coach is reliant on great players. Switzer’s teams weren’t great because of the wishbone. They were great because he had some of the best players in the world on those teams. You forget a plodding Bernie Kosar and Miami stole a national title from Tom. Just gotta get good enough dudes and the right coordinators.

Tom IMO benefited from being able to beat up on mostly trash non-conference opponents and then the 5-6 dwarves in the Big Eight. Eventually OU hit the skids. CU was inconsistent with their coaching changes. We have to get back to beating the programs we should beat and then win 1 of those games against the 3 top 10 tesms we’re going to face. I don’t think we’re ready to do that but that should be Rhule’s unspoken goal.
I do not agree TO never beat good teams. I just looked at his first 5 years and all the ranked teams the Huskers played. The Huskers beat #10 UCLA, #14 NC State, #18 KU#, #17 CU, Lost to #3 OU, #8 Texas (Bowl), #13 KU, lost to #1 OU, #18 Florida (Bowl), #10 CU, #12 Missouri, Lost to #7 OU, Lost to #7 ASU (Bowl), Lost to #17 Missouri, #13 Okie State, Lost to #8 OU, #9 Texas Tech (Bowl), #4 Alabama, #7 CU, Lost to #8 OU and #14 North Caolina (Bowl). He played 21 ranked teams and lost just 7 of these games. So, Tom beat 14 ranked P4 teams in just his first 5 years of coaching which is something Matt the Hat has yet to do in 10 seasons of coaching college football. In the 6 seasons Rhule has been a P4 coach he has played 20 ranked teams so about the same TO did in one less season. (I just started with Tom's first 5 years, but if someone thinks I cherry picked his best years I am more than happy to go over another period of Tom's career)

I think Trae can run - he’s not a statue. Also the elite 11 MVP’s have a history of being studs and future NFL QB’s. Trae is the real deal.

I didn’t say he never beat good teams. For years we would waltz through the Big8 then Switzer would kick our ***. Sometimes it was Mizzou and James Wilder that ruined his run. Sometimes it was CU. Hence my point that we need to win the games we should win. Then add a toss up or two to the W column. Then upset a top 10 team out of the 3 we’ll play this year.

so where are the wins - i read this thread because it's boring, damn hot july, and curious after all the claptrap where y'all see the obvious victories and toss-ups? looks to me like most of the latter are away games.

Satt is fine in his current role. Expecting wins over Oregon or OSU is unrealistic IMO. I’m not so sure though that Indiana will be the same without Mendoza.
I thought their QB before Mendoza was pretty solid, possibly on par. I'm not sure how much of the roster Indiana lost/replaced but Oregon, OSU, and Indiana are 100% losses unless if by the grace of God we don't choke against OSU.

Hopefully we can take the TE room to the next level and see better pass pro and moveability this year.

W, W, W, W, W, L, L, L, W, W, L, L.

I don't like the Mich. State game, and Washington is a test that NU will lose. Don't need to explain OSU, IU, and Oregon. Iowa is a loss until we learn to kill them in the trenches and not lose to bad play-calling.

So you would rather have 8/9 wins instead of what Indiana just did?

Here is what it has to do with the conversation...you either want more or you don't. Indiana fans and AD wanted more. You seem happy with #7.44

We don't like Rhule and we hate the extension. We want him gone. That is difference, we want more. No one cares about the money, fans don't care about that stuff. That is for dudes that have never had sex and/or have only had sex with one person and then married that person.

You can't make this stuff up but then again, I don't have to make it up. iowa fans would rather stay exactly the same instead of making a change and trying for more.

So tough Indiana of all members did it!
Got the right guys at QB and Cig was able to bring almost his whole staff with him. Cig was a KEY part of Saban’s success at Bama. Rhule is not Cig. We’re not going to find the next Cig. Our best bet is probably to find the next great young coordinators. Maybe we found one for the D. Maybe Dana gets it done with a QB who better fits his system. I’ll watch to see how it looks. This whole deal with Cignetti could look a whole lot different 2 years from now but it sounds like he has almost unlimited NIL funding to recruit any guys he wants.

I’m at 7 Ws as well. Any more than that this year with this schedule would exceede my expectations.

i have no clue how good collin klein's first team will be. all new coaches. too many losses to the portal - two to indiana, one each to lsu and txt.

it would have been more fun if that first game was the genuine N. vegas has the o/u at 8.5, a tad too high for my pocket.

I am not sure two 7-6 seasons, both of which saw us implode, would qualify as saving the program as much as it is pointing the program in the right direction. Being 1-34 vs ranked teams, means a lot of those 7 wins the past two years were against subpar teams. Year 4 and time to produce. Beating a ranked team, beating Iowa, winning 8 games, those would represent real progress, and anything short of those 3 things mean Ruhle has hit his high water mark here, in my opinion. Make no mistake, Ruhle will not be fired, so stop with that talk already.

Rhule lovers would have everyone believe that it takes 14 years for a team to learn a new system...meanwhile Cigs was able to teach his guys how to catch, run, block and tackle in his first season.

Again. Brought almost his whole staff and a bunch of his best players transferred with him. Huge advantage. I think Rhule could have done better. That said IMO Cig is an outlier that it isn’t reasonable to compare other coaches to. Cig is going to cost a lot of coaches their jobs prematurely.

It is 100% reasonable. He did not take over some program with great history that had a bad few years.

He took over the worst program in history.

He may be the real deal as a pro style QB.. but it's never worked at Nebraska.. the formula for success here is simple, but once again coaches fail to follow it.. this year is going to be a blast.. but it won't translate past 2 years because of the AD and HC and their preferred formula.

He brought his best players from James Madison. It's not like he went to Indiana from Georgia or something. Rhule needs to be compared to Cignetti, otherwise why does NU even play football?

Berringer was a pro style QB with decent, not great, athleticism. We don’t win that title without him starting or playing in all those games.

Everybody WILL be compared to Cig. Everybody WILL Afall short of that so EXPECTING him to come close is probably foolish. Just win the games you should win. Win more of the toss up games than you lose. Then upset a top conference team. THAT would be a huge leap forward for us. Maybe we do that this year.

he wasn't the leader on that team.. Tommie was.. I don't mean to diminish his role, because he did come through for us.. but I think it had more to do with the situation and the team, than if he had been the starter from day 1.

Hopefully he’s right. There’s a lot of people on here rooting for his failure. While I question a lot of his moves, I wish him well this season. As TO said many many times, “winning is hard”. Rhule had a helluva hole to dig us out of and the B1G schedule is a ***** this year. There are zero guaranteed W’s in the B1G.
I don't think anyone's rooting for his failure. You just know failure is coming.

2 for sure wins
3 most likely wins- could lose 1-2 of them
2 toss ups
2 most likely losses
3 for sure losses

So could be anywhere from 4-8 to 8-4
Some potential but so much baggage and doubt

Kind of like every year for the past decade. We’ve pissed so many winnable games away.
