Is Hardy even expected to play this year? Or am I misjudging the time needed to recover from being shot?

And I predict he will be 1st team again in December. SEC reporters are like most reporters. Lazy.

They are, but the two guys they picked are rated a little ahead of Jones in a draft analysis I looked up. Who knows.

Brice Pollock was also high on that list. We coulda had a real pair of killers at CB.

I probably would have had Kam Franklin on that list instead of Echols. Regardless. the Rebs are loaded everywhere.

While they have some talent they are not loaded. First they dont have Lane and Weiss. Not sure why that’s not being mentioned JDB isn’t the play caller that Lane and Weiss were. Lane has a way of disguising weaknesses on offense with play calling. They lost their best WR and TE, replacing both tackles on offense. Where is the pass rush coming from. Lost their best DE and LB to LSU. While the defense will be solid I don’t think it will be as good as it was in 25.

Have to agree with the shepherd on this one. First of all, their OC and DC aren't really matched well. Plus it's just natural to take a step back. Unless they really have just taken another step as a program in this NIL era, this will happen. They'll also put too much on the shoulders of Chambliss - tends to happen when a star QB comes back after the true coming out season. Not that that is bad - folks just become too dependent on a QB in those years.

Looks like the reason behind that “snub” is because he’s not considered to be one of the top 2 CB‘s in the SEC. Odd that the 2 schools in the SEC with the most NC’s over the last decade have what’s considered the best secondary. Puzzling, to say the least!

Jones should have transferred to another SEC school before they announced the 1st team if he wanted to be listed. Just sayin'.

Mostly agree. They’ll be good. No question. But they won’t have last years record.

They haven’t take another step. They had…HAD a great coach and and an elite OC.. They had fans all in as well. But those guys along with some of their better talent are now at LSU. People want to point towards the playoffs to judge Petey boy but that was mostly the staff that left.

Not really even sure why they do a vote given its so biased with homer reporters voting for their own team's players, deserving or not. Same thing with the team polls where the more media you have there the higher your preseason prediction.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic has him #4 (corners) in his preseason NFL draft and our old friend Brice the #1 senior prospect (been nice to still have him around). Between this and Kamario on the "front page" (with picture) of their CFB section last week it's nice to see us getting a little run. Here's hoping it will turn it into some post season run.

Top 10 draft-eligible underclassmen:
1. Moore
2. Robinson
3. Hampton
4. Jones
5. Swain
6. Ja’Bril Rawls, Florida State (6-0, 173)
7. Zabien Brown, Alabama (6-1, 185)
8. Jyaire Hill, Michigan (6-2, 189)
9. Chris Peal, Syracuse (6-2, 206)
10. Romanas Frederique Jr., Miami (6-0, 185)

4. Kelley Jones, Mississippi State (6-4, 196)*

Best trait: Blankets receivers with length

It was difficult to find catches against Jones on tape. He allowed a meager 28.9 percent completion rate last season (11 catches on 38 targets), which ranked first among all FBS cornerbacks. The key to Jones’ success: His rangy body, which helps him overwhelm receivers early and erase catch windows downfield. His size and grit are also assets against the run game — this is a tough-minded football player.

Must improve: Anticipating route breaks

Jones’ speed and length create staggering matchup advantages when he stays in position. But savvy receivers can get him leaning before separating out of breaks. Earlier on that Texas A&M tape, Concepcion created space from Jones on a post-corner concept, which allowed the Aggies’ quarterback time to find his receiver before Jones could recover. The result was six points for the Aggies (one of only three touchdowns Jones allowed in 2025).

2027 NFL Draft outlook

A native of Clarksdale, Miss., Jones was a quarterback and defensive back in high school, but he arrived in Starkville as more of a raw athlete. After redshirting in 2023 and working his way into the cornerback rotation in 2024, Jones had his breakout last season as an All-SEC performer (13 passes defended and a pair of interceptions).
Similar in stature to Riq Woolen, Jones has a rare 6-4 frame for a cornerback, with the length and speed to suffocate receivers. Based on traits alone, he is a potential Day 2 (Rounds 2-3) prospect. If he continues to improve in 2026, however, he could put himself in the first round next April.

I can't wait until one of Scruffy's decisions costs them a game. Let the unraveling begin, so everyone can finally stop fellating them. The inherited respect they are getting this year is a bit ridiculous. Can. Not. Wait.
