This is the first in a series of videos with one of Nolan’s best friends who was on the boat with him. They go out to Horn Island in a later video.

Long, but if you’re interested in the real story, I believe this is probably it, at least from the perspective of those friends closest to him…

What I’ve learned from my common sense privilege is that most people and especially those from the city neighborhoods have no idea how a beach boat party works. And How it’s not possible to think about anything besides your phone and social media.

the wells seem like a good south Mississippi family but they’ve been compromised by these frauds, grifters, and race hustlers. They will forever be shunned by their community as they should. Probably should take the million from GFM and start looking for property far away…..like a deep blue inner city.

My impression of Nolan : (1) very nice young man with two loving parents and lots of friends (2) athletic but not an experienced swimmer especially in open water with stiff currents (3) Probably not a big drinker and didn't take much on a hot day in a party atomosphere....to be too much . He drowned and it was a tragic accident that got exploited by race hustlers for money and publicity. Lose lose lose situation .

Same. What some eternal victims don’t understand that in the Deep South and especially OS there is no race segregation. These kids have been integrated since birth….they don’t see color. I see it in my boys on the ball field. They only know race when some old racist aszhole brings it up

I agree with everything you said but want to note 1 thing: in the ocean being an experienced swimmer doesn’t always matter. There are countless stories or professional & trained swimmers who are killed by undertows, currents, and tides.

If this hasn't completely exposed the race hustlers, nothing ever will. But the segment of society that is duped by these things is unbelievably loyal to it. I have no idea why.

Ben Crump should... should... lose all credibility after this obvious attempted race hustling money grab.

there are numerous examples to cite in this accident alone to show he is unqualified, incompetent and immoral to practice law. Or pose as lawyer...

I’d never heard of him until last week. But he has zero credibility to lose. These people simply don’t care.

Surely that POS can’t top the Trey reed race hustle:

  1. Framed the death as a potential racial lynching based on Mississippi history, not evidence.
  2. Called the official suicide ruling “vague conclusions” needing civil-rights scrutiny.
  3. Promised an independent autopsy would deliver answers, then never released the results.
  4. Left the family without the autopsy report prompting their public frustration.
  5. Did not correct activist claims of assault or lynching that contradicted official findings.
  6. Linked the case to a broader pattern of racial violence in Mississippi without supporting facts.
  7. Demanded video as if it would expose foul play, while authorities said it aligned with suicide.
  8. Nationalized a local suicide into a racial-justice cause without evidence of racial motive.
  9. Kept invoking “historic wounds” after the state autopsy confirmed no foul play.
  10. Issued no retraction or admission once the racial narrative lacked forensic support.
And when he ran out of grift he went for milk and never came back ….typical

It's always been about making money off the guilt of people with money. That market is softening but not gone.........look how many well-wishers contributed DIRECTLY to Crump/Sharpton via that GFM. Yeah it was a lot of cause sympathizers too but I'm betting a significant chunk of that money came from Ocean Springs residents.

None are so blind as those who refuse to see.
I wonder if they are truly that blind or if there are some that think it's their only way out, to join causes like this. Probably a little of both. maybe just pure hatred. I mean there are probably a few on this board that sympathize with the hustlers, for some unknown reason. I'll never understand it.

This and the anti-police stuff. 2 issues that fly right over my head. "You wouldn't understand", they say. They are right.

I do sympathize greatly for the parents. Can’t imagine how awful it is to lose a child. But they have 100% allowed themselves to be taken advantage of. And while doing this they’ve allowed a large and vocal community on social media to accuse these boys of killing Nolan. You’re right, they will never be accepted back into the community down there. And honestly I couldn’t blame anyone for wanting nothing to do with them.

If I hear this guys name again one more time it will be one more too many.

Sorry for the family losing their son, but everyone is now in full profit from it mode. The "reverend", the shyster lawyer, the podcasters, the media, the social media "influencers", etc. I'm sympathetic until unverified rumors, unfounded allegations, and the cash grab begins. Then I'm done.

These greaseballs are just going to waltz into another city, divide the residents, and then hit the road. As usual. Job done.

There's always going to be some level of racism in the south because people are arseholes. But these elite whites up north love to make us all a bunch of racists down here - even though the only interaction they have with a minority is when said minority cleans their house or serves their food. And then the race baiters and race hustlers - all they are doing is tapdancing - performing minstrel shows for the elites to cash in on their victimhood for personal gain. Meanwhile, we've all been living down here together for decades, figuring it out. We have some idiots down here who give oxygen to the elites and the race hustlers because they're too dumb to think for themselves. But most of us are smarter than that.

Outside looking in, it appears that parents are dealing with unimaginable grief, which clouds thinking. Unfortunately, some manipulative opportunistic people inserted themselves in the process and harming everyone involved, except themselves, as their pockets will somehow get lined and their reputation will be what it has been forever.

I've heard the parent's say "we know our boy and we taught him different" and I get that but, there are countless cases of young people doing things that they have been taught not to. Alcohol and women are a components of this that likely had a big impact on decision making and ultimately the results. I don't fault the parents for not being rational, because who would be, however the professional instigators who hopped in are simply taking advantage of their shock and grief and that sucks.

And that interview with Morgan was over 20 years ago. The kids involved in this story weren’t even born when he said that.

Somebody with deep pockets and a lot of want to will have to find a way to hurt these grifters in their wallets for it to ever stop. They’ve already shown they’re shameless and without morals.

Yea, I still have sympathy for them losing their son, but their behavior is pretty despicable at this point. From everything I've heard, Wells was a great kid. It's a shame that they are dishonoring him by essentially encouraging people to consider his friends racist murderers with absolutely zero evidence. Or if there is any reason to suspect foul play, they have not released it publicly.
I do sympathize greatly for the parents. Can’t imagine how awful it is to lose a child. But they have 100% allowed themselves to be taken advantage of. Unless there something eventually comes out to provide some justification for their belief that the friends killed him, you'd have to be crazy to associate with them if you're white. And crazy to let your kids associate with their kids. If something bad happens to one of their children, your kid is presumed to be a racist murderer and in addition to dealing with losing a friend, gets to deal with death threats? And if you are affluent, your name gets plastered with accusations of interfering with the investigation, regardless of there being zero evidence of it?

What really sucks is the harm his parents have done to other black people. People that are racist and don't have black friends are not being accused of being racist murderers right now. It's the group of kids with a diverse group of friends that are getting called racist murderers and getting death threats. That's probably not lost on a lot of parents.

There is a serious lack of judgement going on when your actions cause Al Sharpton and Ben Crump to be on stage at your son’s funeral while his best friends stay away because they fear a violent reaction to their presence.
I'm wondering if this just uncovered what was already there. They all said that they hardly went over to Wells' house. Perhaps they weren't welcome? And I really don't understand why, so many of these folks have been sold a straight up lie. The true opinions about what the people who support the grifters think about you, is pretty shocking.

How these currents could factor into a drowning scenario

In general, and specifically at this location, the combination of features creates several realistic pathways for someone in the water to get into serious trouble quickly:

• Rip or tidal pull away from shore: Near the tips of barrier islands, tidal exchange between the Mississippi Sound and the Gulf accelerates through constricted areas. A person wading or swimming in relatively shallow water can be pulled into a stronger flow or deeper water before they realize it. Once beyond the immediate nearshore zone, returning against the current becomes much harder.

• Sudden depth change + stronger flow: The documented drop-offs mean a person can step or drift from chest-deep (or shallower) water into depths where standing is impossible and currents are often stronger. Fatigue sets in rapidly if the person is fighting to stay afloat or swim back.

• Circulating / “washing machine” currents: Instead of a simple one-way pull, the local circulation can keep a person trapped in a looping flow, repeatedly carrying them toward and away from the shore or into deeper water. This exhausts energy and can disorient someone, even a strong swimmer.

• Timing and conditions: Local captains have noted that currents around the island can pick up strength later in the day. On a busy holiday with many boats, boat wakes and variable wind can further complicate conditions near shore.

These mechanisms do not require someone to be far from shore or in open ocean conditions; they can occur close to the beach in areas that look deceptively calm or shallow at first glance. The recovery of the body near the last-seen location is consistent with currents that do not transport a body long distances in that particular spot.

Some of the most racist people are the groups Obama spoke to and encouraged during his presidency—he set race relations back two generations

I damn near drowned due to getting caught in a rip tide when I was a teenager. Fortunately my brother saw me struggling and was able to pull me in. I've had a very healthy fear/respect for how far out I go in the water since then.

No doubt this is a big setback for race relations. Why should I let my kid hang out with their black friends if those parents are going to put them through this when they’re already devastated their friend died?

As sad as it is, I could see a scenario where the kid was hanging out in the water even around a bunch of folks. Then just got a little separated. Slipped off into a deep spot, sucked in some sea water and maybe got pulled under by a current. It wouldn’t take much and might not even be noticed with all the commotion going on around him. It could happen very fast and pretty quietly. Especially with the alcohol involved.

All this, plus don't forget alcohol. I'm not accusing or blaming Nolan at all here, but every factor you listed in the water, and add the alcohol he probably had all day (I know I would have), being amplified being in the sun all day, plus hundreds of boats being driven by people who are also drinking... there is no damn telling what could happen.

I have a similar story from swimming in the Pacific Ocean at Pacific Beach in San Diego many years ago. Used to have no fear of swimming in the ocean and now I want no part of it. Has nothing to do with wildlife risks....just completely about respecting the power of the currents.

Something that hasn’t been focused on but should be. Yeah it doesn’t look cool, but if you’re hanging out in dangerous waters drinking around a bunch of drunks, put a 17’n life jacket on.

That simple move probably saves this kid’s life.
