I mean - come on. It’s not like you’ve seen any of the new guys play the point to conclude any of them would be a better back up than him. Tariq might run some point for short stretches, but there will still be a role for someone to back up Lino and right now JMike deserves to be considered the frontrunner for that - until someone else proves themselves in that role at the high major level.
No argument! He is just not a plus player. Besides dribbling the ball across half court he brings no other value to the team. Doesn’t create for others or himself. Not a great rebounder or shooter and contrary to popular belief is not a plus defender.
he does know the system amd can get ppl in the right places .
He didn't really have anyone to create for - now he does, he led the team in 3 pt. shooting percentage, and Pikiel not only sees him as a plus defender, but as the undisputed leader of the team. Taking all of this into account, he's a plus player. Saying he has no other value other than getting the ball across half court is really stupid.
Stop! Did he have someone to get the ball too when Ace and Dylan were on the team?
He creates for no one! He can not shoot unless given 10 secs and even that is mid 30 percent. He is not even close to a plus defender.
Great young man , great attitude, intelligent, knows where to be.
I hope he comes back one day and coaches here!

I think your exaggerating how “bad” he is. Certainly not close to a BIG starter anywhere but good enough to be a utility back up PG most places. If he transferred, he would’ve landed as either a projected starter at a decent mid major or a back up on another high major team (like Zrno, Dortch, etc.)
That’s fair and a mid major I believe he would put up respectable numbers . He is just not a plus player at this level.
Once again: love his attitude, work ethic, intelligence, grit, and energy. I want him to come back here and coach and lead young man one day.
Davis brings a lot to the court, He had 86 assists and only 27 turnovers. He isn’t flashy like Lino, but he is confident and doesn’t get rattled or turn the ball over a lot. I don’t see him as a starter, but I do see him on the court in a tight game with less than 2 minutes left. I’m pretty confident that he has earned Pikiel’s trust and will be relied upon in situations where senior leadership is needed.
2 assits a game as a starter? I’m sorry I strongly disagree. He should not be playing at this level. If his friends name was not Ace, he would not be.

Davis may have been recruited because of his friendship with Ace, but that has nothing to do with why he played the second most minutes per game last season. This season he will likely be Mark’s backup. His assists per game were not great, although his assists to turnovers were awfully good. I would also point out that Braden Smith wouldn’t have set the NCAA record for most assists if he was throwing the ball in to Ogbole or out to an open Badalau to shoot a 3.
It’s easy to have a good assit to turnover ratio when you don’t actually pass the ball or try and create for others.
If Braden was playing alongside Ace and Dylan he would average 10 + assits a game easy.
As for as his minutes go that is simply a blind spot by Pike and one of the many reasons why our program has been on a steady decline since Covid. Pike will be gone and we can then start playing with the big boys again.
Davis will likely be a good backup this coming season. Pikiel didn’t have much of a blind spot about Davis when Mark improved and Davis came off the bench. Pikiel didn’t have much to work with last season and still came up with 14 wins. This season he has better players at least on paper and was able to keep most of the players he had with potential.
If the team doesn’t improve you will likely get your wish and Pikiel will be gone. However, I expect the team to improve and to see Pikiel keep coaching here. I also expect to enjoy the coming season and see which new players will step up as there is some real potential in the players who are returning and the players he brought in.
Yes but expect an appreciably improvement from Lino , Kaden and Tarik. Would be great to get a huge sophomore leap from the first 2 and a dynamite senior season from the other.
the transfers and euros seem from their previous experience , much better than Pike’s previous transfers and Euros.
I am expecting a much better team that is exciting to watch
