The first four clearly apply to the dem coverup of Biden's senility, right AK?

And replacing non-Magas with non-libs in the fifth clearly applies to the cancel culture of the left.
So you think covering up senility (in an effort to maintain power) is the same as being a "fanatic" and/or "cultist"?

Youre smarter than that, Riv. We can discuss policy all day long, but go look up both the definitions of fanatics and cult, put them together like Knox and report back.

or, show me some golden Biden sneakers or trading cards.

You know more about history than that, AK. Compare the Biden coverup to that of the cult leader Mao, summarized here by AI, and report back to admit you see the similarities.

"...the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) systematically concealed the extent of Mao Zedong’s deteriorating health and cognitive decline from the public, as well as from rank-and-file party members. The Chairman's medical conditions and waning mental sharpness were classified as strict state secrets to maintain the illusion of his absolute, infallible leadership. [1, 2]"

In Biden's case, the coverup was to maintain the illusion that Joe's many public mental lapses and confusion did not really mean he was senile and not up to the job - so that those really in charge could keep giving the orders.

If you want to argue that maga is not a cult, thats fine. But trying to deflect and take random aspects from history and try to apply them to the left to make a point they are a "cult" is disingenuous at best, and intellectually stupid at worst. It also makes you look insecure- just because the left calls maga a cult doesn't mean you have to use the same insult back. Be better and more creative with your indictments.

Call the dems virtue signal'y, cancel culture a stain on America, trans ideology is fake, etc. but the left is so disorganized and not unified in any way shape or form, no formal leader that people cling to, or really any aspects of cult ideology, that calling the left a cult makes you look stupid af.

No offense, but AK is vastly more intelligent than you, so I will wait to see how he responds rather than waste time on you.

Yep. If you ACTUALLY LOOK AT THEIR POLICIES, one can see they help the vast majority of us. Not the billionaires. More and more people are catching on that Republican trickle down economics is nothing but a trick. Republican voters completely ignore the wealth gap. They ignore worker pay has gone up 9% since 1980 but CEO pay has gone up $1000%. Republicans and corporate democrats need to either start working for the people who elected them or GTFO of DC.

I completely agree that the DSA is looking out for the common man and their policy positions support that, so if you want to call that socialist go ahead but it's really the opposite of looking out for the "wealthy only" that we see with the current administration. I do wish some of them weren't so extreme because that will make all the headlines and that will scare away some independents and moderate Dems but on the whole, their hearts are in the right place.

Look at Bernie. Dude spent his whole life fighting for workers rights, livable wages, consumer protections, and healthcare for all.

My question is why anyone would oppose any of this?

The Republicans will also lie about them. Even Republicans in Congress that I don’t dislike are starting to sound like Joe McCarthy. This communist nonsense is so lame, especially when companies are being forced to give pieces to Trump’s administration. Again, MAGAs don’t understand the words they use and their leaders know it.

Riv, you're changing the subject. My point wasn't Democrats never covered for Biden. We can certainly have that discussion if you want. My original point was knox claimed Democrats are a "fanatical cult."

Why do you think covering for Bernie Lomax is the same as being in cult? Haven't we gone down this road before on defining cults on the other board? I mean, if your argument is Dems tried to hide Biden's decline, ok. I won't argue that point, but that's more about political dishonesty IMO.

My argument (to knox) is about cult behavior. Seriously, which political movement has gold Trump sneakers, Trump trading cards, Trump Bibles,
Trump NFTs, Trump coins (and a list too long to keep tyoing out), and terrified politicians too scared not to wear the giant shoes bought for him by his leader (I still chuckle at that one).

IMO there have been team-jersey politics to some extent my entire life, but the MAGA movement has taken it to an entirely different level. Gotta give Trump credit, though, he's a master at his craft--that fact hasn't gone unnoticed by me. How he completely convinced the Evangelical movement to sell their souls on the alter of abortion in and of itself is masterful. 👏

Did you read my post on the other HROT about Pastor Robert Jeffress out of Dallas and why he wouldn't support Romney only to abandon all logical reason to support Trump.

EDIT TO ADD ABOVE:

Robert Jeffress, the Dallas pastor, was one of the loudest evangelical voices attacking Mitt Romney’s Mormon faith in 2011, calling Mormonism a “cult” and saying Romney was not a Christian. At the time, he argued that evangelicals should prefer a Christian candidate and framed the issue as a religious one rather than a political one. Later Jeffress became a very outspoken Trump supporter, which made his earlier “cult” criticism of Romney and his talk about keeping church and politics separate look highly selective. In other words, he moved from rejecting Romney on religious grounds to embracing a very different political style when Trump came along. [paraphrased cbsnews.com article]

They don’t, but that’s what the other side wants you to believe and apparently it’s working.

Democrats need to get out in front of this. They’re being branded as the party of communism when it’s really a very very small slice of the party.

This is 100% by design from the GOP. They can’t govern for sh*t but they know how to control the under educated.

The problem is that "regular" democrats cannot beat it back.

BTW, the GOP doesn't control democratic party constituents.....

AK, you suggested a definition for fanatical cult and I simply pointed out that the coverup of Biden's senility met your definition. I said nothing about Trump.

A lot of the hype and hysteria about Trump's followers has been created and pushed by fanatical libs who hate that Trump whupped them in 2024, ending their dangerous and deadly open borders dreams - at least for now.

While you are at it, ask why multimillionaire Bernie doesn't give away all his money to those causes - and stop flying around on expensive private jets.

Well, I respectfully disagree. Covering up a politician's decline isn't what I described.

A fanatic is someone with excessive, unquestioning zeal (think huge Bama fan!). A cult centers on devotion to a person or ideology that discourages independent thought and demands loyalty above principles.

If Democrats tried to shield Biden's decline, criticize 'em for it. I won't defend it...and actually didn't. But thats an argument about protecting an incumbent...NOT evidence of a cult.

The question I asked still stands: Which movement more closely resembles a personality cult (based on Websters)?
A lot of the hype and hysteria about Trump's followers has been created and pushed by fanatical libs who hate that Trump whupped them in 2024, ending their dangerous and deadly open borders dreams - at least for now.
That may be true. There has absolutely been hysteria on both sides actually...just look at this boad. But my concern isn't rooted in MSNBC or social media...it's rooted in my faith (which I've made no secret of).

It's hard watchng Christianity become intertwined w/ loyalty to a politician to the point where you can't even critise him because it winds up treated as an attack on Christianity itself. When Trump is portrayed as chosen by God then pastors start excusing behavior they would have condemned in anyone else.

DSA commies aim to take over the Democratic Party — just as they captured . . . the DSA itself

This is the part those in the cult don't get. Believe this guy for Christ's sake.

https://nypost.com/2026/07/11/opini...c-party-just-as-they-captured-the-dsa-itself/

How worried should Democrats be about the Democratic Socialists of America?

As someone who knows the DSA inside out, I can say with authority: They should be very worried indeed.

I was a DSA member for years and served in local leadership.

But today’s DSA — illiberal, dogmatic and hostile to traditional American political norms — is not the organization I once knew.

It includes disciplined, radicalized networks that have methodically expanded their power over the last decade in pursuit of extremist goals.

As the Democratic Party grapples with the DSA’s growing influence and extremism, it would do well to recognize that the same dynamic underway now — first accommodation, then capture, then surrender to insurgent radicals — already played out on a smaller scale within the DSA itself.

And there’s only one defense: out-organizing it.

For decades, the DSA was mostly composed of a cohort of aging Boomers, remnants from the group’s founding in 1982.

It prioritized open debate and political tolerance.

Following in the tradition of founder Michael Harrington, members viewed the DSA not as a revolutionary vanguard but as a reformist bridge to mainstream labor-liberalism; they prioritized parliamentary process and pluralism.

But in the mid-2010s, the character of the organization began to change.
