They say $3 billion now. But my guess is by the time it's finally built and the usual cost overruns are added in, the total will be closer to $4 billion. That's how the sports arena game works.Kraft really looks like an idiot now. $700 MM? Renovation? Amateur.
That, and the Final Four, and the Big 12 Championship gameetc. That's why the Bears, Titans and Browns are building indoor stadia. I'm sure that Chicago and Nashville now will get Super Bowls and Final Fours, and Chicago and Cleveland probably will bid for the Big 10 Championship game and Nashville will bid for the SEC Championship game.
As long as the current ownership group owns that team, they'll be one of the last ones standing with an antiquated open air stadium while they fall further and further behind all of the other teams. And I say that as a person who shares two season tickets with my brother and sister that my father and uncle originally purchased in the early 70s.
Agree, but to me it seems the Steelers want to protect the image they built for themselves back in the 70s. A hard-nosed, blue-collar team in a blue-collar steel town which plays outdoors while the snow flies. It doesn't matter that Pittsburgh is now more of a tech city and the steel industry is mostly gone.
Amen to that. And I say that as someone who attended a lot of those great 70s games as a boy with my uncle, including both Oilers AFC Championship games in the 78 and 79 seasons.

The Chiefs unveiled the first renderings for their new stadium in Kansas that is scheduled to open for the NFL's 2031 season.
These NFL teams know that to get most people into the seats and away from the comfort of their living rooms and huge TVs, they need to have a more fan friendly atmosphere, which means playing games in a comfortable, climate controlled environment. These teams also want to be able to attract other big events like Super Bowls, Final Fours, college championship games, and concerts. I frankly don't see the romanticism of attending games in late December or January when the temperature could be close to 0 degrees like the Steelers-Raiders night game was in 2022, or watching a game in snow like the Broncos-Patriots Championship game this past season that totally distorts the game, but I know that a lot of people like that.
Browns fan. I used to sit in old Municipal stadium on the shore of Lake Erie back in the 60's when the Browns weren't pathetic. No place colder in December. That was part of the experience. That and the idiots drunk on crappy beer.
