More experienced players plus new coaches = excitement. But fails to mention that previous CFP guarantee prediction at the SEC Media Days.

''Last year at this time most of you guys picked us very high because of the players that we had returning on our team -- on the 2025 team. This year we won't be picked very high. I get that, but we got the same players that you picked us high for last year. They're back this year, and they're a year older, which excites me.''

He did exactly what a coach is supposed to do at Media Days. Lets move on.

At least he didn't say anything stupid like Heupel did. Media Days are pretty much a bunch of players and coaches all saying the same things.

Have serious doubts our defensive end and o-lineman will be ready to play. I only heard his comments at the start about those two players and wasn't convinced at all. Sounded like coach speak. Tells me those guys have a way to go or they aren't convinced they will be playing a lot.

We've only had one period of time where OL and DE, DL were good and it made Whammy look like a genius.

This was a dumb question by a reporter trying to be cute and Beamer handled it and provided no billboard material.

Q. Tennessee back on the schedule. Last time they came to Williams-Brice, you scored so many points, you literally ran out of fireworks. Are you excited they're back on the schedule, for one? But more importantly, did we up the budget for fireworks this year?

I agree. What did Heupel say? Ive only had time so far to watch the Carolina content.

He was joking about UT fans stocking up on Mustard and golf balls for when Kiffin and Ole Miss come to town. It was obviously a joke, but UT fans are so stupid, they will think he was giving them serious instructions.

Media Days is a waste of time.

Except for this:

Disappointed it didn't sound like he had an answer to our 4th quarter woes. Other than his conclusion that we weren't old enough. Kinda sounded like he still needs to study it. Go figure. Anyway, maybe I'm reading too much into it. All I know is when I watched us melt down in the 4th quarter time and again, age didn't cross my mind. Thankfully we have a new OC to give reason for some optimism because Beamer's time at the mic didn't really do it for me.

Beamer has begun to wear on me. I am very, very tired of him saying "I'm so proud of my guys..." after losing (again).

Not having an offense able to A- move the ball consistently and B- capitalize on turnovers has cost us multiple wins for over a decade. The only times in recent history that we have had anything other than "good lord, at least get a first down or two" offenses has been under Spurrier. Let's hope that changes with Briles.

This is what im thinking.

Do we really expect a lot of great stuff out of media days? Maybe im just desensitized to coachspeak.
Yeah, if a coach makes news at the media days event, it's most likely not for a good reason.

Remember when the UCLA coach explained to everyone that UCLA is in Los Angeles?

I've always heard that when a team loses games late it is an indication of poor physical conditioning. The whole "age" thing is a straw man. The days of a roster loaded with seniors is pretty well over unless a team gets a lot of players with one year of eligibility left from the portal. The really good players go pro after year 3 and the players who aren't getting playing time generally transfer.

Indiana went with the portal method and it worked for them. It sounds like Beamer is trying to hang on to the players who went 4-8 and develop them into better players. We'll see how it works out.

The part Beamer did not mention, and would not at an event like this, is that the other huge difference is the change in coaching on the offensive side of the ball. What I hear him saying, and not sure this is his intention, is that we had the players to perform MUCH better than we did last year and he believes new coaching (Briles mainly) will be the difference in 2026.

This will be Beamer's 7th season here. Year 7 was Frank Beamer's breakthrough year at Virginia Tech. Is Shane a "chip off the old block"? I hope so.

The key this season is whether Beamer has the ability to mesh Briles pass-happy tendencies with Clayton White's defense. Defensive Coordinators prefer ball control offenses. So, will Briles have a running attack to balance his offense?

No. It’s for coachspeak and because July is a boring sports month so it’s an attention generator.
In regards to coachspeak, it’s what the vast majority of fanbases will get from most coaches in any environment. We got a treat in that Holtz and Spurrier don’t go in for it much.
