Depending on how you wanted to structure it, I think the Mount Rushmore of American wrestling for a number of different reasons would be Dan Gable, Cael Sanderson, Jordan Burroughs, and Kurt Angle.

I think it’s closer than you’d think. If you ask the average person if they’ve heard of Kurt Angle or John Smith, even without WWE stuff I think Angle is more of a household name.

Angle's household name isn't established without WWE, so it's hard for this point to stand.

I had to look Angle's name up. I didnt follow collegiate wrestling back then or WWE. Smith has stayed very relevant to the NCAA and is more recognizable.

Uetake wrestled 130 which is the weight that would become 141.

Gable wrestled 130 (which became 141), 137 and 142 (which became 149).

Hodge wrestled 177 which would become 184.
