Yes they can. I suspect state would actually do better because it would behoove the big 10 and SEC to make sure there was some degree of parity.

it would also be F’n awful and I would despise it.

Sure they can. They need a few more than the current 34 teams though.

It would surely suck, at least in the short term. It's a bad move overall, to do it the way they are proposing. So Sankey may actually do it.

But people won't quit watching.

Question is, could the rest of college football survive without the SEC & Big 10? I mean, of course it would survive, but it wouldn't be much.

Why not ? Other than the fans paying the player's salaries everybody else is making bank now and would continue ,

I think they would still need a CBA with the players, if thats possible.

The good thing about breaking away is it potentially solves some antitrust issues by breaking up the monopsony and giving athletes a choice of leagues. Don't like our rules on compensation? Go play in the other league.

But, the top players will want to play in the league that gets the most NFL interest. If the new league essentially becomes the gateway to the NFL, then the "choice" is just a facade and the antitrust claims are back.in the table.

When it comes to football the Big 10 and SEC is the driver.

I just wish we would go back to 4 major regional conferences (around 50 programs) and the rest move back to division II.

The SEC & Big 10 could definitely survive if they breakaway together although they would probably prefer to pick up another 12-15 schools from the current combined ACC/Big 12.
