I think Sankey is floating that talk to heat up the discussions on the Protect College Sports Act. The SEC and BIG want more protections from potential liability so the conferences and NCAA can know their rules won't just result in more litigation.
Yes eventually, will likely need the entire P4 to build a league that will draw enough TV revenue. Saban will be commissioner.
I keep thinking that's the easy answer, the ones willing to pay rev share and the ones who aren't. But then you have to remember that rev share isn't mandatory........you are simply ALLOWED to do it if you want......therefore, the legislation didn't mandate this. This was done because of the stupid commissioners. The case only mandated that the future NCAA earnings pay back those 2016-2021 athletes, this rev share BS was added to help quell some of the booster-paying and create competitive balance. All it really did was saddle athletic departments with a 20M bill. So honestly, I think we may not see a true breakaway, rather we might see some schools move divisions or something because they are tired of getting their butt kicked maybe.

No. Will the SEC and the Big Ten break away when their ROG runs out (2034 or so), bringing a select few ACC teams? Probably.
You could go to 40 teams (SEC + B1G +ND and 5 ACC teams - Miami/FSU/UVa/NC/???). Four divisions of 10 schools, making a playoff easy to set up. Kick out the dead weight (Us, Purdue, etc.) and you could bring in the top left overs. However, I don't think it's a slam dunk that we get left out. The Blue Bloods are going to want to keep the bottom tier Big 2 conference schools around for wins.
The answer is yes, and this is what I have been preaching for many years. The SEC and Big 10 will break away soon and poach the upper echelon teams from the other 2 conferences. At that point all founding member ties will fly out of the window- See Oregon State (who has a great baseball program BTW) and Washington State. We have to improve at football and have to do it this season. If we don't I hope all the baseball fanatics can wrap your heads around weekend home series against our new rivals of South Alabama and Southern Miss.
