With Football quickly approaching I thought I would ask others. What is something that a Football Team does that just drives you CRAZY when playing?

Mine is when you have a 3rd down and you have less than 10 yards to go the OC dials up a 15-20 yard pass play. Just pass it to get the first down. Even if you are a little short depending on your field position you may go for it on 4th down. A 6 yard pass will be completed more often than a 20 yards pass.

Tell me yours!

Slightly different answer: If one of my pro teams is bad, I hate when they win meaningless games towards the end of the year. Getting elite talent in the draft matters, especially if its a year with a few probowl-type QB talents. Theres no sense being a .300/.400 win team. Obviously coaches want to keep their jobs, but if my football team just won its 3rd game of the season in December, then might as well just lose the rest and build for the future.

Id also argue that for this year, teams like Miami, Arizona, NYJ and Cleveland would all be better off being one of the worst teams drafting a Manning or a Moore, than winning a few extra games, and getting the best pass-rusher with the 7th pick.

Prevent defense in a one score/tied game. Coaching staff should be fired on the spot and banned from ever coaching again.
Why is it pronounced “Pree-vent” when describing this type of defense? The word is prevent and I know of no other instance when it is pronounced with a long E.
That is one of my pet peeves, does anyone know why it is pree-vent?

Can't believe you left my titans off this list. Lol sorry but I am not a believer in ward.

100% agree with u and titans have done this a couple times. Won the last game and drop several picks. I mean we go 3 and 14 instead of 2 and 15? Yay? Lol

Yeah I guess you can include them as well. I'm not sold on Ward either, but, there was some promise last year, and now he actually has what should be a true WR1 in Tate. I feel like they might be just slightly good enough to not land in that top4-5 range for drafting. Although Jets/Titans week 1 will go a long way in dictating where our teams land lmao.

I remember hating when the Jets won a late-season game back in like 2020 which caused us to miss on Trevor Lawrence. And I'll be equally as pissed if we mess around this year year, win 6 games and we're stuck drafting an Edge Rusher or having to trade up just to get a guy like Sayin or Manning. But I'm sure that's what will happen.

Stoops trademark. 8 straight bowl games. Along with multi-10-win seasons. No other coaches at UK had as many winning seasons. How quickly fans forget 0-10-1, 2-10 type seasons.
I grew up constantly saying we either needed a young coach with gimmicks or ahead of the curve or a coach that could just stabilze the program, keep in state recruits and develop. Stoops obviously was the latter and deserves praise for that and for the majority of my great UK football memories.

However, Stoops also shot himself in the foot too many times. I remember players telling me that the staff couldn't even find whiteboard markers before their first game against WKU. I chalked that to Stoops being a first time leader and would grow out of it. But he didn't, not covering receivers against Florida, not getting lined up or taking delay of game penalties after timeouts, our team being lost in the final minutes of every half, getting a penalty against UT when we were trying to get a FG to tie.

Stuff liked that kept him from taking the next step and of course abandoning his strategy of recruiting and letting Vince collect broken 4-5 star recruits that couldn't see the field when they played for the big boys, was the final death knell.

At this point, I don't think there is anything Ward can do. The Titans have shown no interest in development and change organizational leaders by the day. The wake up call for me was when Malick Willis came in with Green Bay and looked like a legit QB. Compare that to a guy that looked like he never played football when he was with the Titans.

playing not to lose instead of playing to win (one example being overly conservative too early)

I just now realized how it is pronounced differently. Crazy how it affects you and I didn’t even notice. I’m sure there are probably things that drive me crazy that you dont pay attention to.

A friend pointed this out to me years ago and now I notice every time someone says it.
I would like to know how it came to be pronounced that way. Everyone does it.

I think it has to do with usually being ticked off when pronouncing it. lol

“Johnny, they’re playing that damned preevent defense again!!”

You forgot the second syllable... it's actually "Kayuts"

I don't know... for either of the words prevent or Cats, if you get deep enough into some hollers, those pronunciations are totally normal. See example below:

"I tell you whut, if Coach ____ (pick your sport/coach to insert here) don't do _____ for my Kayuts, you better hold me back to PREEVENT me from goin and kickin his butt!"

Just typing that out makes me feel like I'm home for the holidays.

That is the Philadelphia Eagles business model. Just get to 4th down and less than 2 yards and do the tush push. Probably the most unappealing offensive play in football.

The Marvin Lewis special: 3-6 point halftime lead, play second half as conservatively as possible and hope the other team does too.
