The golf has been kind of boring until late yesterday but the Bryson controversy will bring a lot of eye balls today. Fox is on fire this AM.
Based on social media, I disagree. Seems like most are on his side except the 2 idiots on Golf Channel. I understand the ruling but are they going back to watch everyone else that stood behind a ball (ex. W Clark).

Social media lol. There is no doubt he did more than just stand. He walked back and forth more than once, tramping down the grass behind his ball which gave him an easier swing path to the ball. You can't do that under Rule 8.1a
For those interested, Chris Gotterup entered today 2 Under. He had a disasterous 3 hole stretch (4-6) where he shot 4 Over. He did play the back 9 2 Under but is currently T62 at Even Par, a 27 position drop from yesterday. .
Bryson’s penalty was absolutely a no brainer, and his subsequent tantrum about ‘maybe I just won’t play anymore’ was pathetic. It’s not the Bryson show. No matter how much he tries to be a man of the people (ala Arnie….and I’m purposely leaving Phil out), his personality will never allow it to be authentic.
BS penalty. Where he walked was 10 feet behind his Ball. Had no impact on his back swing. If this had been Rory Mcllroy there would have been no penalty assessed.

a. Actions That Are Not Allowed

You're being to hard on Bryson, just like the Royal Birkdale officials did by refusing to accept DeChambeau's explanation fir what occurred on the 5th hole
All he was doing was practicing his Bristol Stomp Dance moves while he was planing his strategy for the shot , based on the lie.

It had absolutely nothing to do with groundind a club.
He hit it there. What he did was not looking for his ball. They could have compromised and made it 1 shot..haha.
I love the game but it sure does have some strange inconsistent rules players take advantage of all the time that improves the lie.especially around the green and not 180 yards away.
So blah that 3 players shot course record (62). I guess they are just making it look too easy.
He wasn't in a hazard so grounding his club was not the reason he suffered the penalty. It was improving his lie to clear the tall grass for his backswing.
Cam Young, who started with 5 consecutive 3's, and Russell Henley are 6 Under for the round, playing the Back 9 so yeah players are going low again.
NBC‘s golf coverage is really poor. Aside from Tirico, the on-air team is meh. And the camerawork, especially on tee balls, is not good.
Chris Gotterup started the day 3+ in 64th place ended -3 tied for 18th. Great come back for him
His swing also doesn’t scream PGA pro either. He is the champion golfer of the year.
I had trouble following the ball and I watch a lot of golf. Fairways were too light

Yep, clearly a penalty. I never liked Bryson and now I like him even less given his whiny bitching about the penalty and threatening to call Trump to intervene with the R&A. Doosh.

Every PGA player should send a thank you card to the Saudis, Phil, and Greg. They are immensely better off now due to LIV giving it a go and making PGA leadership get more right.
Lol...he took a practice backswing, clipped grass, then walked right over the spot where he clipped the grass. 10 feet is a load of baloney. Even his furthest distance trampled down from the ball wasnt 10 ft.
Agree completely. I didn't like the penalty because I don't think it would have been applied fairly across the entire field (ie, there were ~120 players that could have done it without penalty)...but the actions themselves certainly put him in jeopardy of having a penalty called. It was much, much less than 10 feet, and looked like it very likely did improve his position.
That's true and it cost the Saudis a bunch in the process .
There are some who feel many of those who jumped to the LIV made the bucks by signing but suffered from reduced competitive sharpness due to a less rigorous schedule.
Also some of what they made in the LIV had to be used to buy their way back into the PCA rour, but compared totheir LIV signing bonises, might have just been a drop in the bucket
examples: Jon Rahm received around $300 mil to jump to the LIV , paid about $5 mil to get back in PGA's good graces . Though his PGA suspension hasn't been lifted he can join the DP tour

What people like Pornhub also aren't understanding because frisbee golf is a lot different than a real golf major is that people were looking for that ball. Volunteers were trampling all around to find it. I've never seen a real golfer not walk behind the ball to line it up. Some gamesmanship? Maybe. 2 stroke penalty? Nah.
