Looks like the most balanced and deep team we’ve had in awhile.
Could have 6 or more double figure scorers. Long as well. No ego problems. Chemistry should be great. takes a coach who inherited zero
Ordinarily takes a staff, who inherited zip, a couple years to get it really going. Smart fans get that. Takes a bit of experience, knowledge and patience.
Signed, Dusty May, Jai Lucas, and Mark Byingon.

Surely this is sarcasm. If not can you elaborate? Where do you see depth ? What is a coach supposed to inherit? It's year three in the NIL era where you can do what Dusty May just did.

Mason Williams will come in, that kid can play & he's built like a tank for his age.

Moreno..............after "FTT" there's no one other than Potter so that's a question mark for sure. Hopefully "FTT" stays healthy.

I honestly think this is the most talent Pope has ever had, he's never had 2 PG that can create for 3 point shooters like Wilkins & Diallo.
Serious question. What happens if Diallo Wilkins or Mason have an injury? Just one of the three. This team will get beat on anyway because if anyone hasn't watched the last two seasons or seen when we play Georgia...the way to beat a Pope team is literally beat on them and punk them off the court.

I'm just used to Kentucky having at least one unicorn even if they aren't a top ten pick or all American. Amari Williams for instance, when he walked in the building he was a presence. He looked like a UK player. Last year Oweh, Mo, and florida boy had a aura about them even if they weren't stars. I'm just not liking the way this team looks.
Well, we do have the best three-point shooter in the nation. I mean, if that's not a unicorn I'm not sure what is. You why you had their unicorn last year as in Kansas and how did that work out for them?

I've mentioned Mom many times and said the same thing. I think he will have a good season. Just not some savior. You don't think teams will suffocate him? Make sure he doesn't get a shot off?

Do you not remember the last two seasons when we wondered why we couldn't get Brea a shot? And he was shooting 50% at one point in the season. Or Chandler a look last season?

People think Mom is going to be sitting in the corner busting threes all game. Hes going to be pressured and bullied. He's not a creator. At least Brea could get in the lane or to the rim. When Mom doesn't get wide open threes or room to dribble just like Chandler last year then what?

Moreno isn't taking a game over. Do the two guards we got have the ability to take a game over? Maybe. I just don't see it this year. Popes already blowing smoke up our *** talking about Noah.

If you’re going to compare any coach to Dusty May and his two-year turnaround at Michigan, you’re going to wind up miserably disappointed.

As far as the depth convo, I don’t know whether we have elite depth or not. Last season, everyone was certain we had two of everything until injuries and busts. Jasper stunk, Garrison didn’t take a leap and Noah didn’t translate. This year, I see a lot of top-end potential but a small likelihood much of it becomes top shelf.

PG - Diallo B- to A, likely B+
Backup PG - Morton D+ to B-, likely C
Backup PG - M. Williams D+ to B+, likely C
Backup PG - Wilkins C- to A+, likely B

SG - Wilkins C+ to A+, likely B+
Backup SG - B. Hawthorne D+ to A, likely C
Backup SG - K. Williams C+ to A, likely B-
Backup SG - M. Williams C- to B+, likely C

SF - K. Williams B- to A, likely B
Backup SF - Noah C to B, likely B-
Backup SF - B. Hawthorne C- to A, likely C+
Backup SF - Momcilovic A to A+, likely A
Backup SF - McBride D+ to B-, likely C

PF - Momcilovic A- to A+, likely A
Backup PF - N’Diaye C- to A, likely B-
Backup PF - McBride C to B+, likely B
Backup PF - Noah D+ to B-, likely C

C - Moreno B to A+, likely B+
Backup C - Kepnang B- to A-, likely B
Backup C - Potter D+ to B-, likely C
Backup C - McBride D to C, likely C-

That’s how I see the roster volatility. Yes, there’s a lot of potential depth but also a lot of variability with a lot of these guys. We have to hope for good development and cohesion IMO.

I hope these guys aren't doing anything but cardio this summer. A lot of the starters need to play more than 30 minutes a game this year imo. Playing ten or eleven people isn't going to cut it.

I’m not certain I agree with the majority on that one. I believe widening the rotation early on is the correct play.

1.) We have a lot of high-upside guys and you want to see how many of them flourish in real-game action.

2.) You have to find out how much depth you have before you shorten the rotation.

3.) Many of us talk about fatigue, but seldom do we talk about progressive fatigue, which affects players who carry a load throughout the year. This is a specific concern due to injuries.

4.) There’s also the general development aspect. I’m not sure Moreno is where he is right now if it weren’t for the early season minutes. Mason Williams may need those to develop. Especially under the new 5 for 5 rule, it is worth investing in guys for long-term development. In-game minutes are huge for that.

5.) Pope has historically shortened rotations as the year goes on. He did at BYU, he did in 2025 at UK and he did it last year also. I expect this year to be no different.

Just another reason why Kusturica was a must-get for Pope. Kam is coming off a pretty significant injury. Hawthorne is still a project. Could have really used another high-level wing that can create offense off the bounce. People love to overlook glaring holes like this in the summer months when our roster is favorably analyzed from our myopic little blue ivory tower, but these holes come back to bite you more times than not.

Missing on Holt was huge. He would have been perfect for what Pope is trying to do.
I agree, I hope Hawthorne reaches the potential he has pretty quickly. It would be awesome for Kam to be ready to go though. He could have a nice year 2. He started playing well before his injury.

This team's ceiling is a 4 seed. Most likely, they'll be below that.

But the good thing is that we have a TON of really really stupid fans who will lap it up.

I think I heard Pope mention a Lisfranc injury when discussing last year. If that was Kam’a diagnosis, it is a hard injury to shake and heal.

Exactly right, but Pope was spewing crap that UK hadn't been in contact for couple months. Either a lie or display of stupidity by entire staff, especially with Williams still nursing injury.

What people don’t seem to realize is Kam csme
Back last season and we lost. Kam might not ever be Kentucky material we don’t know. We’ve got guys like Hawthorne that might end up at Eastern. We’ve missed tons of recruits, most / all top recruits, and this team is mid. Injuries are part of the game, recruiting well is part of the game, bad coaching can be part of the game. So far Pope isn’t even within arms reach of UK quality and it’s not changing. He’s not young, it’s probably the least qualified coach we’ve ever hired. Ready for this next mid pack year and then we can finally agree 80% strong to remove. With the new AD, he’s gonna want his guy anyway.

Since the 80’s there’s always been a segment who would rather lose with their favorite coach than win. This is no different. And their excuses are endless, as always
Sure hope this ad has a lot of contacts and can land a good coach that can recruit

Pope Sweet 16 his first year inheriting zero players.

Lucas and Byington both out in the round of 32 in their first years - not as good as CMP- and both inherited good rosters as did May who also made a Sweet 16 like CMP in his first year.
I’m guessing you think May won it all his first year but you would be wrong. Look it up.

I see more than adequate depth. Experienced starters with young and old players behind them. C spot has 2 experienced back ups. Morton is an experienced pg off the bench. Noah experienced. N’Diaye a 6 10 pro. Hawthorne’s pretty good and will help. I see Mc Bride as a starter at the 3. Very versatile bench.

Do think our starters will play more minutes together but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

He’s going to stay with giving guys developmental minutes through the season and tighten it up closer to tournament time, basically said so a couple of weeks ago. I can understand the mindset but it just seems like he doesn’t have the feel when to pull the guys. I just hate seeing blown leads or going down double digits because we stick with guys who don’t match up a little too long. JMO

no it doesn’t. Again, this is just not true and it hasn’t been true since NIL. Pope would be totally dead and floating without the NIL. The only reason he was hired in the first place was they assumed the money would make recruiting possible for
Him. Without it, he couldn’t have even been interviewed.

It does not take years to build a team anymore. Continuing to pretend this doesn’t make it true. Saying it year to year doesn’t make it true. We’ve got coaches with championships in both sports who immediately built championship rosters. This is a pro league, it doesn’t take 3/4/5 years to build. It doesn’t matter how many times you say it, it’s not true. It’s false, as in, not accurate at all.

Pope has been, not just a failure at this point, an abysmal failure for Kentucky standards. Add in that he’s allowed to recruit with the top brand, who has the most money, and is sitting 0-35ish for top recruits at a program like this and it turns to a pathetic showing. Let’s not get into the blowouts which we’ve never seen to this degree.

Pope will be ran out of here after this season, but there will be about 5% fanboys screaming he needs 4/5 years. It will happen, but it won’t matter.

Penetrating insight there. The fact is YOU or anybody else knows what this team will look like on a college floor. Lots of questions that can only be answered when we see them play, your statement that we will be also rans shows that perhaps you are the one is stupid

Well to be fair....

1. UK went out and got Momlonivic to be the starting SF and best portal shooter.....which is Kam's best postions.
2. Kam can also play some stretch PF....and UK went out and got McBride and Ndyia.......
3. UK also kept Hawthorne at the SF spot

So while I sill love Kam as a backup SF and some stretch PF in some minutes as well.....and he's a better defensive presence in rotation as well....UK has no excuse as we have guys for his minutes. I do agree the constant injuries under Pope (and at end of Cal era ) were irritating. There is no excuses with Kam....we have guys paid to play even if he can't go.

Unless his boot is on the other foot, I have to believe this is a continuation of his injury last year. Must suck for Kam. Kid pushed it back to get on the floor. He seems old school to me when it comes to helping his team. Hope this is just a summer moment for him.

Although I loved him for it, coming back last year may not have been a good idea. However, I don’t think there’s been any additional surgeries/procedures or additional injuries.

The optimist in me says they’re in Vegas walking around a lot so smart to wear the boot. The pessimist says, it just isn’t healing.
