I keep seeing that James is taking a gap year because he'd still have five years of eligibility left.
This account you probably are unlikely to trust (I don't), as it's very anon, very trolly, and often wrong:

This account you can probably trust is a real person (I do), which *may make it easier for you to decide how right or wrong or honest it is:

I think he is definitely moving up (either to 165 or 174). He and Mitchell will man the 165 and 174 lb weight classes for us...just not sure which at which.

My best guess:

125 Lilledahl
133 Ono
141 Blaze
149 Van Ness
157 James (or Kasak)
165 Messenbrink
174 Duke
184 Welsh
197 Barr
285 Connor Mirasola

Pretty formidable!
and blaze versus basset

With 5 for 5 and eligibility changes...what will our starting lineup look like in 2027-2028 season?

I will take a swing (with significant backups listed)

125 Lilledahl, Sidun

133 Ono, Desmond, Burnett

141 Blaze, Davis

149 Kasak, Shepherd, Herring, Perry

157 James, Mangano

165 Duke, Sealey

174 Henckel, Cunningham

184 Welsh,

197 Barr,

285 Connor Mirasola, Cole Mirasola, Brown

I'd like to hear (see) your thoughts.....

That’s got to be an old picture - or worse yet, AI - from Basch because it shows Jayden being issued NIKE gear, not the new Addidas gear. 😉

Damn straight skippy. 2028 is when the roosters (Stillwater Cowboys via Happy Valley) come home to crow. Five finalists and 10 AAs just ain't getting it done any more. Okie St. 10 finalists and 20AAs, book it.
I do not see the "passing of the torch" just yet...You can't simply go on media "hype" and social media opinion. DO THE WORK...Break it down weight-by-weight for yourselves...

Let's look at a 2027-2028 PSU vs OKIE ST dual (of course, using theoretical line ups)

125

Lilledahl vs Villesenor

* Villesenor is very good...but I gotta go with Luke

PSU 3-0

133

Ono vs Forest

* I know, I know...everyone will say "it's folkstyle", but my comeback is "it's Ono...you know, World Champ". True toss up. I say Forest MAY get the first time they wrestle, he won't after that. Overall Ono in a close one

PSU 6-0

141

Blaze vs either Rainey

* easy for me...Blaze all day

PSU 9-0

149

Kasak (yes, Kasak at 149) vs Vega

* Vega is a freak with a crazy motor. Kasak is other worldly strong. Another toss up. I'll allow this one to lean OKST (but don't be surprised if Kasak knocks him off)

PSU 9-3

157

James vs Robideau

* good luck with this one. True toss up. Robideau is scrappy and stingy and can get to his offense...James is a very special talent. I am not going to predict this one...TOSS UP

PSU 9-3 (with 157 toss up)

165

Duke vs Lockett

* sorry, OK ST fans. Duke, Duke, Duke

PSU 12-3 (with 157 toss up)

174

Henckel vs Ryder (yes, Ryder...I think he drops down)

* I will give a healthy Ryder a slight edge here.

PSU 12-6 (with toss up at 157)

184

Welsh vs Berge (I think he will have 1 year left at that point)

* Welsh...not a lot to say here...He's simply better than Berge

PSU 15-6 (with 157 toss up)

197

Barr vs Merrill

* Until it's proven otherwise, it's Barr

PSU 18-6 (with toss up at 157)

285

Connor Mirasola vs Ross

* I know most of you will choose Ross, simply based on his "potential"...I say Connor is crafty and cagey and would not be giving up size. Connor in a "popular opinion" upset.

PSU 21-6 (with toss up at 157)

You have 174 and 285 mixed up. No way we're losing to Zach Ryder at 174, no way. And I think Ross is going to be a monster as long as he stays healthy. Complete monster.

My post was a firm tongue in cheek effort. Penn State isn't backing up any so unless Okie St is planning on a 180 point effort they are chasing second place.
We have a few doomsday fellows who insist 2028 is the year. I keep insisting it ain't happening in 2028 and I doubt 2029 either. 2029 is a bit too far out though, and 2030 is really getting out there. However, it makes little difference, Cowboy OSU will need to really excel if they want a championship. There isn't going to be another 129 point champion for a a few years.

I looked closer at Basch's twitter post,
Pic shows it's from Insta, from account = mrskjames, a private profile, followed by Casey Cunningham

Basch is pretty transparent about where & how he uses AI Software, including generative image-making, but this is not that, imo

Hard for me to believe that Tyler Kasak cannot crack out lineup???
would clearly be projected at top 3 at 157 and still may be listed as 3rd on PSU
1. Duke
2. James
3. Kasak
4. Sealy. and sealy could be top 7 or 8 in the country right now and 4th..... 4th on our team!

even if Duke bumps up. That probably still leaves Kasak and Sealy behind James?
This is an absolute embarrassment of riches! Hard to believe!

My post was meant as a joke (I included a winking emoji). I posted it on the day the new addidas sportsware/equipment contract went into effect, taking over the Penn State account from Nike. I didn’t mean to put anyone down the rabbit hole of searching a photo’s metadata.

It seems like Ono and Blaze are interchangeable b/t 133 and 141 but more often than not I’m seeing Blaze listed at ‘41 with a projected lineup. I get the Olympic weight argument and Blaze wanting to get comfortable with that weight, but I imagine Ono might be of the same mindset. And it seems like Ono might bit a bit lighter. Just curious if anyone has any info or cares to comment on whether I’m missing something more obvious or reported. Either way, will be a treat to see Luke, Ono, Blaze opening up matches if indeed that’s how it plays out.

Based on interviews it appears they have a decent relationship, I am sure they have worked out who is at what weight or will.

He made a hard cut (that I thought very difficult and unlikely) to 141 as a Freshman. He has shown that he can make a tough cut.

I was trying to put together the best lineup while making possible (or probable) assumptions. It'd make the most sense if the cut to 149 would be doable for him. It is a far better option than facing off with Duke or James for a starting spot.

Don't you agree?

How has he done vs Van Ness when intermittently healthy the last two years?

TK was going to redshirt as a freshman, but stepped in when SVN injured…. Does anyone know how they have done against each other, and has that evolved over the last three years?

Blaze needs to hold 61kg until late October he will be back at 133. 141 Ono Desmond Davis will be figuring that weight out I don't think Herring is beating those guys yet. I think James will end up the 157
Ono isn't going 141.

That may be but Blaze is a lot taler then ONO and fill like he can fill out 141 better but that is a lot of "ifs" I think if it coms down to Ono, Desmond or Davis... we have a high AA at 141 with Ono being a good chance at a finalist. it is also crazy to think that Kasak may not be able to crack our lineup??? Duke, James, Kasak, Sealy all potentially at 57 is absurd. I know that Duke is moving up and I project he pulls a Levi and goes to 174.
