Both things I said are true. She shouldn't have be chosen, hired, or whatever, to fill his seat. Boogie may have attempted to be sarcastic, but he was right. If this was a Democrat that passed away, and their seat was filled by a family member, it would be wrong too.

You guys would defend that though.
I actually don't mind this. That goes for this time or any other time, regardless of party. So yeah, I would defend that. I'm also defending this.

So once again, you're dead wrong about me and what I correctly identified as spin. But let me guess: I somehow proved your point... this is "typical" of me... you knew I was going to say that... you know I know that you are objectively, factually correct and I'm in denial... or I'm deluded... or I'm just an evil, evil liar.

Correct. Those pretending his sister’s selection is some sort of historical deviation simply haven’t been paying attention. She’s just in office a few months before midterms anyway. Since Sen. Graham wasn’t married she seems the sentimental, logical choice.

You’re not evil. I do think you’re a decent person, but indoctrinated. There are rare times when you come across level headed, but the safe bet is to not wager any money on that.

Well, thanks, in part.

I demonstrate independent thinking w/ clear rationales just about every day. You just disagree with me on almost everything.

You probably are a rational person in your daily life. When it comes to politics though, you’re anything but rational.
I can and do defend any and every political belief I have. You confuse not agreeing with not being rational. You opt for laughing at it or calling me the sheep, ironically, rather than engaging at all with what I actually say. You show no sign of being able to hold both ideas simultaneously -- disagreeing but acknowledging reason -- yet you keep claiming you are the one who is all fair and balanced. You, who throws around superlatives and hyperbole like Oprah cars, are the reasonable one?

I know I’m fair and balanced. Liberals offer no hope to people at all. Only problems, and who to point the finger at. It runs rampant in education, and it’s exactly why many say college hurts as much as it helps. That pesky word indoctrination is a real thing.

It has really stunted you too Datt.

Slight sarcasm...screams what many complained about DEI, yet this helped out the #1 recipient of DEI, ...white women....i do realize that it is temporary and has historical precedent

While being a member of a historically oppressed group while still retaining racial privilege, it’s not surprising that white women have been better positioned to benefit from aff action/ DEI. What is surprising is that you continue to associate this variation of “ widow succession” with the prioritization of race and gender in hiring, when it seems self evident that she was chosen based on her familial relation with a deceased Senator not immutable characteristics typically associated with DEI

Believe it or not, we had a war to get rid of the whole familial succession thing in this country.

You contradict yourself this quickly.
Nah. It's laughable that you think because I disagree with you that I can't possibly know how to show compassion, and feel for the downtrodden. I fully believe your two biggest flaws are your career in education (thank God not all are like you) and the fact you have bought the garbage the media have pushed for a long time. It has made you insufferable to deal with on political & social issues.

I don't walk around looking for people to blame things on like you do.

I noted the sarcasm and the understanding of the precedent and why she was ultimately chosen

I would guess you're a good teacher, and probably liked by your students. Your life in academia has warped your thinking though outside of the classroom. You act like you're the savior for the downtrodden, but place almost all of the blame on others.

The safe bet for your attacks are white conservatives.

I think you’re most likely a caring teacher, and enjoy what you do. You’re twisting what I’m saying, which is very common for you to do. A lot of teachers, and I think you’re one of them, live in a bubble that makes you not in tune with the real world.

Before you jump to more conclusions about me, my opinion is not a knee jerk reaction. We’ve been going back and forth for years, as well as others having plenty of experience with you too.

Teachers/schools deal with the real world every single day w/ students and their families and their issues and problems that come into the school and that the school ultimately assists w/...including such things as abuse, homelessness, food insecurities, rape, incest, drug abuse....it goes on and on and on....#TheRealRealWorld

Not denying any of that. I've always admired teachers. When it comes to politics though, guys like Datt expose how out of touch they are. I deal with quite a few people in education, and it seems that the higher they climb the ladder,, the more distant from reality they get.

Most teachers I know are centrist to conservative politically, so I try not to paint with too big a brush. In a lot of wealthy districts, teachers are often the wives of doctors, attorneys, etc. and their voting may align with their family’s overall financial interests more than their profession’s.
From a distance, it appears there’s little diversity of thought in our univ system, not sure as much about public school teachers as a whole.

Then it should be Datt the person, not Datt the teacher...his stances imo aren't because of his profession, its because of who he his, his values, morals and such....

Maybe, but his views line up with a lot that are in that field. Definitely the ones that have climbed the ladder.

I’m in no way against education, but am against indoctrination. And anyone with any sense at all knows that takes place, and on a massive scale too.

...as opposed to dealing with people who come into your shop for the sole purpose of getting new tires. I wonder what that guy ever does to combat abuse, homelessness, food insecurities, rape, incest, drug abuse, etc. Voting for rapists, pedophiles, and for people who gut social support systems seems pretty antithetical to that.

Cliff notes version of the above paragraph:

Other professions are irrelevant compared to mine. Mother Theresa got nothing on me. People who don’t vote like me are evil pedophiles and want people to be homeless and hungry and rape’s okay too.

Are teachers trained to combat rape and incest or as mandated reporters are they supposed to contact social services?

Juanita Broaadrick and Tara Reid. Remember them? Two of the last three Dem Presidents have been accused of rape. Careful where you throw them rocks.

To the teachers trained part...No they are not, but they still have to deal with the fallout being told or seeing the results of the incident and interacting compassionately with that student....yes the info would be given over to counselor and eventually SS, but the school will still have a duty to that student when he or she is present....

“Deal with the fallout”, “ interact compassionately”. That’s a good way to put it. Teachers are often on the front lines no doubt. But when someone asserts moral privilege, pushback is inevitable.

The moral privilege that exists when you assume your own moral superiority due to belonging to a certain group: in this case two groups ( teachers, Democrats). Anyone outside of the group is immediately deemed morally defective, an outcast ( business owners, Republicans). Complicated budgetary issues are often reduced to moral judgements. Republicans want to reduce the growth rate of the SNAP program. Therefore they want to “gut” the program and want poor people to go hungry. That kind of thing.

@BOOGIEMAN1914, Datt does think he’s superior. I have said he’s probably a good teacher, but is delusional when it comes to politics. Give him time, and his instability will show up. His post here is proof.

Absolutely not! I've previously been very clear to tell mac that all work has dignity. I'm THAT far Left. That's a really atrocious summary.

In this instance, however, he is attacking my profession and me, including promoting the false, trite, common notion that we are in a bubble. It's been going on for a couple days now -- do you just skip to the end? And it was Boogieman who brought up those specific, accurate things teachers have to deal with in the real world, not me. Those things are absolutely outside mac's expertise, and it is absolutely the real world.

Public school educators are mandatory reporters and are trained to get a student to the expert on whatever the allegation is immediately, whether administrator, school nurse (if it's your school's lucky day of the week to get one), counselor, or SRO. Any one of us is an impromptu confessor and therapist over time.

I think I addressed this in my last reply. You're darn right I'll defend myself and profession when attacked with lies. That's not bragging. It's countering a lie.

And spare me that sanctimonious crap about using loaded language to demonize people. Mac says all the times that the Left is inherently evil, period. Pretty much everybody does it sometimes.

I'm also sure that you get lots of people in your shop who are there because of an unexpected flat or blowout, and that's stressful, and you have to deal with that. That's no more or less "the real world" than when the other person is a child.

Each school should have a permanent nurse that gets to know the kids well and vice versa. That’s a glaring deficiency. Who administers the meds without a nurse? Who treats a sprained ankle after recess? No wonder teachers get so burnt out having to perform ten different jobs at once.

Teachers have it pretty good if you look at their schedule (Holidays, Annual Leave Time, Optional Workdays). In my school district the teachers get 25 days off this year (Holidays and Annual Leave) and they have 14 optional teacher workdays. Throw in two months off in the summer and that’s a lot of time off compared to the private sector. I was a teacher/coach and taught driver education during all those days off, plus Saturdays. We had teacher meetings usually two times a month on Wednesdays. A lot of them moaned and groaned about having to stay until about 5 o’clock. It felt like a break to me, since I always worked every day until 6:30. Teachers have a lot of stress, but so does every other profession. You have liberals and conservatives, but it always seemed like the liberals would bring up their political views a lot more than the conservatives. Just my two cents.
