There’s no way we’re getting this dude.
Really sticking your neck out there aren't you OBM. There are seven teams in consideration. If all was equal that is less than a 15% chance. But Michigan, UConn, Florida and Kentucky will be tough to beat, true blue bloods with deep pockets. Add in Tennessee who has really deep pockets and Miami who is closer to home. Iowa is truly a long shot but you never know. Sad thing if we get him, he'll be a one and done.

would he be a top 10 pick in the 2028 draft?

Just a reminder: Daughtry is related to Brad Banks & CJ Jones.

Excerpts from the linked October 28, 2025 article:

Other connections tie Daughtry to the University of Iowa. His relatives are alumni from another program in the athletic department.

“I know Iowa has a great fan base. I had family that played football there, Brad Banks and C.J. Jones,” he said.

Iowa is currently in the lead for Daughtry. You don’t think it’s possible for Ben to find a one-time donation to seal the deal?

What are you suggesting Ben do, just bow out like a p#ssy because CD might go elsewhere? I don’t understand your extreme pessimism. At this point, you have to put the full-court press on to land this kid and hope for the best. Nothing is guaranteed, which includes CD in the end choosing a blue blood.

Iowa is not in the lead for this kid. It’s not pessimism, it’s realism. You need to come out of fantasy land and realize we don’t have the financial means to land this kid. He will pull a massive windfall of money, and with the unregulated NIL environment, it puts our chances at close to zero. Name one time outside of Ricky Davis we landed a kid like this anyway…? I stopped paying attention to the talking heads because all they do is hype the machine - that’s kind of their job lol….

I will say it is “possible” for Iowa to land him, it’s just not probable. Anyone with a shred of critical thinking skills can put the puzzle pieces together. This doesn’t mean I am not extremely high on this coaching staff and team, I very much am. We don’t need this kid to be successful.

Absolutely agree with this viewpoint. Like it or not, the HC position for most schools now is a sales/fund raising job now more than ever. If you’re in the position to land a prospect of this caliber, you have to do it.

Don’t be disappointed when it doesn’t happen. I won’t be at all. I know Ben will get Iowa competitive and relevant with or without him.

Those who know a hell of a lot more than you say otherwise.

Is this an appeal to authority? Just because they know more than me doesn’t make them right. That logic doesn’t make sense. Also a vast majority of them are media. It’s their job to create hype for the program.
