Lefties are always a victim... lol...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/07/16/socialists-think-billionaires-steal-wealth/

America’s socialists don’t like billionaires. This week, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) posted online, “Billionaires get richer while working families struggle.” New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) campaigned last year on getting rid of them: “I don’t think we should have billionaires.” This spring, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) told a podcaster, “You can’t earn a billion dollars.”

AOC made the socialist stance clear in 2020, a year after joining Congress. “No one ever makes a billion dollars,” she said. “You take a billion dollars.”

But the idea that wealth is taken from others rather than created is an idea economists rebutted 155 years ago.
Early economists, such as James Mill and David Ricardo, theorized that the physical labor exerted to create a good is the real measure of its value. Karl Marx took the concept to its extreme: If labor creates all value, then profit must require unpaid labor, making every employer an expropriator and every fortune a crime.

Then, beginning in 1871, economists countered the labor theory of value. Carl Menger, William Stanley Jevons and Léon Walras demonstrated independently that value resides not in hours of toil but in the judgments of consumers. Writing a 500-page novel takes the same amount of physical labor as typing out 500 pages of the word “banana” repeatedly. Only the novel commands a price. Value is created whenever someone rearranges the world into a shape that others want. It is measured by the buyer, not the worker.

Ancient times:

Someone finds unused and unoccupied land (they do have neighbors)
They plant grains
They breed sheep
They collect, process and sell wool
They harvest meat and sell excess
They sell excess grain
They collect gold coins
Rinse and repeat.

Through proper management the heard goes from 10s to thousands.
They hire people
Those people become a tribe beholding to the main family
Brothers become their own tribes
Tribes form a nation
This nation is known for its wealth.

Now according to AI the American GDP adjusted for inflation in 2016 dollars in 1900 was ~500B in 2016 the base referenced GDP was ~18T. Isnt that like 3600 x the 1900 value. 2025 it was 30T

AI follow up has 1900 at ~650B in 2025 dollars

According to AI the inflation adjusted per capita was 29K in 1900 and 7K back then with population of 80M.
Today's per capita is 89K with pop of 350M.

By my math we are under-performing. We should see per capita at 120K. We need more wealth creation not less.

Economics is social science. Social science is deeply fraught.

Unfortunately, some of these loons made their way over here in the invasion. I've seen several parrot this concept that "billionaires shouldn't exist." There is also the contingent that votes for tax increases on hardworking families because they somehow associate them with billionaires (ie, the "rich"). These are very, very stupid people.

Now, are there some challenges with wealth inequality for sure. But the simpleton view taken by these folks simply isn't productive in solving it and if widely adopted, is downright dangerous.

is it really "socialist" to think a guy who makes $1 billion in passive/investment income doesn't "earn" it the same way a blue collar worker making $80K working 12+ hour days?

Due to our experiencing of time as linear, property rights are biased and inherently unfair.

#MUSTGETBILLIONAIRESMONEY... Yeah, it's a cult. A sick twisted cult. A cult of lifelong victims.
Wealthy people, many, at least, think poorer people are lazy.

Seems New Yorkers like Mamdani so far.

That's gotta piss off the Radical Right and their agenda.

Billionaires have been stealing wealth my whole life.
Nah, you're just a Socialist and too lazy to get of of your *** to build something. You're such a victim. You should move to Cuba, N Korea, China, Russia, or Vietnam and complain. I'm pretty sure you'll be treated better and have a higher standard of living.

It absolutely is when you have no right to his efforts and monies made, and believe you're entitled to their monies.

i mean...all income is already taxed, so it seems pointless to present this as an issue of being "entitled" to anything.

supporting the general concept of income taxes is not socialist

what we're really talking about is how income is taxed and what we want to encourage/reward through that tax system. and i'm pretty comfortable drawing a distinction between labor/wages and investment/passive income (which is the only real way someone makes $1Billion in a year).

Meanwhile, your party walked away from, and degrades working class people. Obama warned your party regarding the blue collar workers of America. Also, y'all talk down to such folks. In this very thread, folks have talked down to them. Even David Axelrod called y'all out. You simply don't care. You're a party of elitists, now turning Marxist, and walked away from your base. Own it.

David Axelrod calls Dems ‘smarty-pants, suburban, college-educated party’ https://nypost.com/2024/11/08/us-ne...smarty-pants-suburban-college-educated-party/

They already pay the vast majority of taxes. It's rather clear. Most liberals on here never created a business, nor do they understand business.

this seems besides the point...but i see how this is going.

only thing i'll add is that the VAST majority of business owners fall into the "making $80K a year, working 12+ hour days"...and i think we should structure a tax system that supports them

There are 15-30 people IN THE WORLD who actually earn $1B per year.

This should be obvious, but "Billionaire" doesn't mean you earn $1B dollars. It means you have $1B dollars.

And most of them built businesses to get it.

See my post above. You are welcome to change how $1B in annual income is taxed ... for the 15-30 people in the world who make $1B in a year. Seems a worthwhile endeavor.

but, if a person is making $1billion in passive income, he pays taxes on that income. The debate now seems to be more about taxing wealth in addition to income.

We're already a "semi socialist" nation in that we tax 'high" earners and pass the money to "low" earners in the form of benefits. Even GHW Bush wanted a program of "compassionate conservatism"

all i was saying was that i draw a distinction between the two levels/forms of income - and that i don't think that necessarily makes me a socialist, communist or whatever buzz word is the current focus of conservative social media

I doubt there are more than a handful of people "making $1billion a year. From AI "Fewer than 20 Americans report an annual taxable income of $1 billion or more to the IRS in any given year."

Take every dime of Musks money and you run grubbyment for 1 month and 21 days. He packs his bags and leaves. No more tesla, starlink and access to most of space for NASA.

IMHO people should be working on making trusts, creating an off-grid homestead and using self directed Roth IRAs that allow investment in private equity along with putting money in an annuity.

Find as many legal ways to avoid taxes.

From the Bible:

If you don't take care of your own you have denied the faith and are worse than an infidel.
Also persons are commanded to provide an inheritance for their grand kids. Yep nepotism is commanded. Get jealous and covetous of inherited wealth then you are breaking a couple of the 10 commandments.

If you are some guilt ridden leftard rich guy who leaves little to his kids and grand kids you are worse than an infidel.

Don't like it? Take it up with God.
