1. Johnathan Abram
2. Nickoe Whitley

Honorable Mentions - Derek Pegues, Stan Black, Frank Dowsing, Kelvin Knight, Eric Brown, Ashley Cooper, Pig Prather, Josh Morgan

I'd add Tim Nelson and Eugene Clinton. Really any dog safety from the late 90's D have a great shot of making the list.
Steve Freeman has to be #2. He played 12 years in the NFL.
Nickoe should be the first HM. Nickoe made some plays that will always be a part of MSU football lore.
Tim Nelson was a DUDE and has be to a HM.
Greg Williams from the 80/81 teams played in the NFL for a few years although Rob Fesmire was the SAFETY on those teams. Both should be HM.

Nickoe Whitley - ********** Bo Wallace after winning the Egg Bowl makes him a legend.

Johnathan Abram- maybe the hardest hitting safety I've ever seen in maroon and white. Dude brought it every game.

HM: Eugene Clinton - with an assist from Robert Bean making one of the most memorable plays in State history.

Mark McLaurin deserves an honorable mention. Led the SEC in interceptions in 2017 as a safety. And famously picked off a Heismsn winner a future NFL MVP three times in one game. Had a good 2018 as well, albeit overshadowed by some bigger names.

The Ashley Cooper contingent finally gets the chance to speak. I’ve probably blown him way out of proportion as I was a kid during his time but it seemed like he was rocketing around the end into the backfield at least once a series. No idea if he was any good in coverage

Waaay back in the spring of 1973 we had a safety named Ken Phares drafted by the Steelers in the second round . Ken was good and even made first team all SEC one year . He was a really nice guy and we had several classes together . The morning after the draft we had a class together and several of us jumped him congratulated him and asked why the hell he didn't tell us he was going to be a high round draft choice . His answer....."hell I had no idea". My how things have changed .

Nickoe HIT people!
Nickoe is an absolute badass. I hope no one forgets him pissing on the hedges at UGA and then playing his last EB with a torn up knee, making the game winning play, & then punking Bo Wallace. More interesting facts: he completed his masters degree from the business college and is currently the biggest rapper in Mississippi.

Some of his latest work

Can’t argue against Brian’s picks, but Keith Fitzhugh will always be one of my favorite Bulldogs.

All we got back in the 70's was Jack Cristil's radio call and Sunday night highlights on the Bob Tyler show.

My parents didn't do sports and certainly weren't buying season tickets so I didn't get to really see Stan Black play but he is why I am a bulldog fan so...

I am glad he made honorable mention, it's hard to go back that far and really compare players of different eras but no doubt he made his mark at State.

Cooper was the best of my years watching. Not even close. But Whitney was my favorite. Rapper from Jackson now . You tube him
