What AI program do you use and why?

I don't use it very often, but when I do, I use ChatGPT. My wife started to use it before me and told me how useful it has been for her, so I started and more or less
just stuck with it. It seems to do a great job for most of the simple tasks I ask it to do. I know there are quite a few others out there (Grok, Google AI, Claude) and I
was wondering if anyone has noticed what some may do better than others. I have a couple MAGA friends who are Elon fanboys who use Grok, but I have never
really asked anyone else about their favorites. Thoughts?

I use chatGPT to help with lessons. I have it rewrite articles/readings that might be too hard for students with 504s and IEPs so that they can do the activity. It has helped me create some notes for students when they are gone.

For coding in my startups we exclusively use Claude Code running the Fable model now that it’s available. We were using the most advanced Opus model.

I switched away from OpenAI as I don’t trust them anymore.

I use ChatGPT, but primarily for data compiling. I have the following pinned chats:

1 - Jeep Repairs & Maintenance Schedule: It literally holds all my repair invoices, service logs, recalls, etc.
2 - Retirement Planning: I feed it quarterly statements, discuss investment strategies, rollovers, retirement age strategies, etc. (It's so good, I'm considering dumping my financial advisor I've been with since 2007--I could save thousands per year)
3 - Bambu 3D Printing: It's been instrumental in starting out as a new to printing.
4 - Social Security Representative Payee: With my FIL in a nursing home, I now manage his money. This pinned chat has probably been the single most beneficial chat I've had to date. It walked me through setting up the bank account, finance tracker, government form responses, etc.
5 - Wedding Planning: Yup, got one for wedding planning--right down to the B&B we're staying in for NOLA.

What I don't use it for is crafting emails, personal advice (wife's BF literally uses ChatGPT as a relationship counselor--YUCK!), or day-to-day stuff I can do on my own. The old saying goes, if you don't use it (brain) you'll lose it.

That's the part I really can't stand. "That's a good idea! I'm glad you brought that to my attention." Alexa is now doing the same thing.

The enterprise version we have at work for co-pilot is quite useful for summarizing and analyzing documents. I haven't used AI in my personal life, for now. Not sure what it would tell me I do not already know. If we are planning on any big changes, I would probably use it for that too, along with Google Gemeni.

AI has some benefits but it also has some drawbacks. If you're real specific about the prompts, it can help, but you also need to cross reference.

The number 1 drawback, imo, is that it won't tell you it doesn't know an answer. It will confidently give you a wrong answer.

Kind of, it doesn't feel like a lie. It doesn't feel like it's trying to mislead you. It is more like the know-it-all friend that always has to answer even when they don't know. Sometime's they're right and sometimes they're wrong, but not deceitful.

i feel similarly about gemini, claude, and openai. wouldnt touch oai with a bargepole but why do you say grok is behind? i know you drive a tesla, have you tried grok in vehicle?

I use Chatgpt. I do find errors sometimes and point them out. Since I'm retired I'm not using it for work, but for general questions and shopping help. It would have been really useful to help create lesson plans and activities for my classroom. Also it would have been great for creating personalized graphics for individual students and classroom projects.

Hawkeye said he started an agentic AI startup, he told a story about creating a jogging app WHILE Jogging. I was like...WTF?

Anyway, I am a HEAVY reader and have a spreadsheet where I track all my books/series (I am all digital through Kindle Unlimited). I got into the LitRPG genre about 10 years ago and most if not all the books are series. I had 71 series in flight, some 8, 9, 10 years running. Suffice it to say, tracking ongoing series is a nightmare...you have to flag the series as unread, then continuously go check to see if new books are coming out.

I tried to migrate to GoodReads and Storybook and other online apps that tout the ability to do this. Suffice it to say with a library with over 2000+ titles in it, this was a nightmare and just did not work. I then had AI help me "optimize" my spreadsheet by creating a "check URL" button that would extract title and book # and do a Google search..this helped, but I still had to manually update the spreadsheet.

OK, back to Hawkeye.....I pinged Copilot and asked "is this guy full of ****" and Copilot said NO. I asked if I could do this....Copilot said YES. Fast forward and I built an APP to replace my spreadsheet using AI as the coach. Built an IDE (Integrated Developer Environment) loaded all kinds of free **** on my Macbook AIR and wrote 13,000 lines of code (never coded anything in my entire life, did not know what any of the **** was that i was building) to develop my app....ReaderPro. I am considering commercializing.

I retire in two years and I am launching a IT/AI Consultancy Company....built the website for it in 2 hours (******* amazing) and am now working on my first agentic app that I WILL commercialize.

I started this on June 19th with a BLANK slate, no experience whatsoever, but an idea. Successfully building this framework, building an app, and successfully using app (spreadsheet is GONE) was a HUGE dopamine hit. This hits a sweet spot for fun things to do that MIGHT just turn into something much bigger. Also, time invested is about 75 hours total from nothing to 2 apps and a fledgling business idea with a web page, business email, domain (harrelltechadvisory.com) and EXCITEMENT.

This. And it will throw out info as if it's a fact. I've called out ChatGPT for being wrong and several times it will even double down and say that I am incorrect and won't change it's mind until I show proof.

Something really simple, like asking what year Tristan Wirfs won his state wrestling title, and it told me he never won. How do you get that wrong?

I've caught Gemini being wrong, but ChatGPT at a much higher level.

I bought my Tesla in 2015…I’m a buy and drive them into the ground kind of guy. So not sure what grok would be able to do…technically I can browse the internet in mine but guessing it is way past the age where Tesla would deploy a new feature for it.

As for why Grok sucks…in fairness that datapoint is many months old. It just could not hold a candle to the other major models for queries (too many hallucinations, inconsistent logic, etc). It has nothing to do with Elon and everything to do with how it performed for my needs. Perhaps it is better now, but everything I’ve read says it remains in a lagging position.
