Brazille is showing out, Thomas is showing out, Acuff was a lottery pick. Richmond a very good player.

Did Calipari underachieve, again? Did his hand the ball to Acuff, play no defense, maximize that team?
underachieve.....they finished 2nd in second best conference losing just 5 games. won the SECT. made it to a sweet 16 and got beat by a #1 seed.

maybe its time to move past blaming calipari for everything and focus on our crap show.....

Yes. He underachieved by at least a tournament win. He will almost every year. Acuff is one of the best college players Cal has ever had. He had tons of talent with lots of experience. Rinse and repeat. The previous year was a major choke job against Texas Tech. Cal gave the game away.

Arkansas fans maybe don't feel that way as they are probably happy with a SEC tourney chapmionship and a quick out in the big dance. Don't get me wrong, UK fans would like to win the SEC tournament again but ultimately they only care about national championships.

Win the SEC, win the SECT and make the elite eight. That's my standard for UK every year as always. Arkansas had damn good year in my book. Won the SECT, one spot away from the top of the SEC and one round away from the elite eight. That's very close to a great season.

I agree, your goals for a UK team are about what I look for most years as well. And, by Arkansas standards, is probably considered a stellar season.
But, when you factor in the talent level he had, one could argue Cal fell short of his team's potential once again.

Brazile is averaging 19/9 and shooting 50% from three. Instead they basically gave the ball to Acuff and said go, and played zero defense.
brazile spent 4 years at ark, 2 with cal. in that time shot 115-328 from three for 35%. last year he shot the most threes in any one season but the worst percentage.

maybe its best not to go making huge statements of a 2 game stretch in summer league....

Sure, probably premature, but he also has a McD AA on his bench, Richmond. How many guys did Illinois get drafted?

It doesn’t matter cal not at Kentucky and cal will always be in the thick of it because he can bring in top 10 top five picks every season. It’s frustrating to have all that talent that came through a Kentucky that we as fan had to put aside or traditional fandom of following players for the promise that next year, will yield better players? Just because the coach changed it shouldn’t have changed. Problem is the mentality popes mentality is inclusive of those 96 guys and then some guys here and there that’s it. People grumble about cal closing in the program. Well now it may be worse.

Pope quote, "Right now, we feel like we've got a beautiful Ferrari, and we cant wait to take it for a spin". At the time, he knew JQ was probably not going to play . Do you think Pope underachieved?

Yeh we do chase Nattys but to be honest we piled up 4 of those in 10 yrs (48-58). We have only won 4 more in the last 68 years or on average 1 every 17 years.

I will never give Cal a pass, but losing Knox made a small team even smaller and susceptible to a team loaded with size like Arizona.Ewin is a finesse big and Brazile is really a 3.

Cal hasn’t been in the thick of it since 2017, maybe 2019 or 2020.
It doesn’t matter what horses he brings in.

The minutes aren't the point - the point is that he had a stacked roster, and got a 4 seed. They had the 60th rated defense via KenPom.
they were not stacked. they were picked around 14th in pre season polls. made it to the sweat 16, finished 13th in the rankings. you want to make them more than what they were because you just want to blame cal. 2 plus years after he is gone......its pretty pathetic. but grind that ax if you must

Acuffs career will be interesting. Some have said that he might have been the best Calipari PG to this point (in their one or two years of college). Arkansas' roster last year wasnt ground breaking like many of Cals rosters here, so hard to expect a F4. But if Acuff turns out to be *that* good, then it could be another missed opportunity by Cal.

in this era i just dont think 1 lottery pick and 1 other NBA drafted guy is enough. every year, every team in the top 10 will have 7 or 8 high quality players and most of them will be JRs/SRs because of the portal. 10 years ago sure.....but now, its going to be hard to win at a high high level with a roster of total studs.

Kentucky was picked higher in the preseason. Didn’t do as well as Arkansas in conference play. Hasn’t won more than one game in the SEC Tournament since before Covid. Didn’t go as far as Arkansas did in the NCAA Tournament.

Before people reply yes I know Kentucky beat Arkansas. Yes I know UK had injuries like Arkansas did with Knox. I’m just saying we should worry about the state of Kentucky’s program instead of trying to tear down Cal who did a lot for this program, Arkansas or Acuff who was really good last year.

It was bunched up SEC. If Arky came in 2nd, UK came in 4th. Cal got a premier draw for the SEC tourney (OU, Ole Miss, and Vandy for the SECT). He made the Sweet 16 after also getting lucky draws in the first two rounds (Hawaii and High Point). The SEC was probably the second best league last year. Cal had some of the best talent in college basketball last year (he lost at home to Mark Pope). Mark Pope must like that people are defending that season. If UK did that under Pope, what would the assessment be? 😝

I wrote when they lost he probably had the second most talented roster in the country after Duke. And Arkansas got blown to smithereens by Arizona, who went on to get blown to smithereens by Michigan. He absolutely underachieved, again. It actually felt like closure to me on the whole Cal ordeal. He is never winning another title. Whether we made the right hire with Pope we'll see, but Cal is done as a serious contender.

His team was loaded like always. They had a good season overall, He just doesn’t get them to play in big games. Same problem as here. He doesn’t prepare, he doesn’t hold them to winning standards. It’s all about the draft and their future and nothing more. It’s the single reason he didn’t retire here.

Who did Arkansas beat to get to that Sweet 16? Let’s not act like they accomplished something.

before it’s all said and done, the Hogs previous coach will have been more successful than Cal with two elite eights.

But they’re still in that honeymoon phase right now, blinded by the recruiting rankings.

LOL at how miserable you haters are. Dear Leader has complete control over your simple minds. He just has to give you something to hate to control you.

Cal has hung banners in Rupp, will have his name hanging in Rupps rafters, you run it on a message board. The nerve of unaccomplished message board clowns talking down on aa Hall of Fame coach.

Hatred ignorance and lies is what they run on.
