We should have an ongoing thread on professional and amateur golf, equipment, etc. Don't use this thread for the Open this week, or future majors - I assume there will be separate threads.

I know both of these guys. Steve better than Ernie now, but at one time I watched Ernie drink over a case of "Greenies" (Heinekens) in a sitting. Steve, I see every day. Usually w/ his yellow lab in his cart.

Before Ernie sold his house to Rory, I did his indoor putting green and at a point I asked him about this. Then when I met Steve, I asked him about it. I got 2 completely different responses.

I believe Ernie more, only because he is much bigger, and Drunk Ernie would try to take on anyone. Funny story. Ernie is out there, and Steve is a leftover pothead from the late 80's.

We have another member Ryan Armour who just turned 50 but has had to get on that Champions Tour the hard way w/ only 1 career win. He qualified at -2 at the Bears Club, then made the cut at Scioto at the US Senior Open and last week finished 22nd at Firestone. He's off to Scotland next week for the British Senior Open.

Even though he's from Ohio, he's one of the nicest people I've met in my life in golf. Like Russ Cochran (another member), a true prince.

Sounds good. I am assuming we can use this to discuss golf trips/course, etc.

Anyone ever play Sunday River GC in Maine? I am conidering doing a trip there in early Sept.
Ro - I got nothing when it comes to ME golf. Do me a favor and help me bump this thread occasionally with tournament results, etc. so it doesn't disappear.

Rickie and Akshay last week after playing early. We let them take separate carts because Rickie says Akshay smells. Other than that, they seem like friends.

I was in a conversation with them on the range one day about "camber" on wedges, and I just had to check out. I hit good wedge shots when I was good, and never thought about camber.

Akshay is a bit different, but seems ok. Rickie is obviously more approachable. If he's not playing on Sunday, he's at Jr. golf with his daughter going up and down the line on the range. Really good guy.

I’ve been playing golf and buying clubs for a long time and never saw any reference to camber. Earlier this year I bought new irons and the sole camber was mentioned as one of the benefits. “Turf interaction” has been a popular buzz word recently so I guess camber plays into it.

I come from the days when I was on Hogan staff where it was - here's your impossible to hit irons. You ordered them. Go make them work.

I remember "camber" being a thing w/ persimmon drivers back in the day.

Horvat is another member. I like him. I knew his Dad, who was a PGA. He and Rickie at our course on this video. Get a good look at it, in another 2 weeks it's gone. New clubhouse and complete re-grassing.

At the start of the video, you see Eric Cole hitting behind Grant. Not sure why those two haven't hooked up yet. I told Grant last time I saw him. I said 2 words - Alice Cooper. He said he's working on it.

Those course reworks take a couple of years. Are you gong to work at another course in the interim?
It's not a course, rather a club. And it's a re-grassing, not some rework. It takes 10 months, though they say 12.

I'm not sure. What are you doing the next year? Why do you gaf what I'm doing?

I simply think you have one of the more interesting jobs on this board.

Have you been keeping up with the WPCC champions since your buddy WJ last won it in 2003?

The Schalls ruled for a while but then other players like Tyler and Renz were unbeatable.

Just gotta ask a few questions:

1) Are Fagnano and Mussina any good?

2) While playing with WJ in your many tournaments did he ever mention that he desired to divorce his wife Jane (the mother of his children) simply because she became sick with MS?

WJ = Big Fish; small pond

My boy plays at our club yesterday here outside Nashville. Proceeds to tell me every shot that he hit, because it was the best round of the year for him....... after a 10 minute conversation he tells me that he played with some other solo out on the course. At the end he tells me that the guy was Morgan Wallen's guitar tech and he flys all over the world when Morgan is on tour tending to the guitars. He had some pretty wild stories about MW. He did say that Morgan has grown up, but that for a number of years huge party guy.

I had to research who Morgan Wallen is. I swear, I thought you were talking about a law firm named Morgan & Wallen.
