What happened to Candice Wiggins....

Retirement

On March 22, 2016, Wiggins announced her retirement from the WNBA after eight seasons.[14] Despite being only 29 years old and without a career-threatening injury, Wiggins expressed in a letter about her retirement that she was ready to move on from playing professional basketball.[14]

In a 2017 interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune, Wiggins revealed more about what led her to retire from basketball. Calling the league's culture "very, very harmful" and "toxic to me", she alleged that she had been bullied on the court throughout her WNBA career for being heterosexual and nationally popular. Wiggins added,

"I wanted to play two more seasons of WNBA, but the experience didn't lend itself to my mental state." During the interview, she remarked:

Me being heterosexual and straight, and being vocal in my identity as a straight woman was huge. I would say 98 percent of the women in the WNBA are gay women. It was a conformist type of place. There was a whole different set of rules they (the other players) could apply."[15][16]

Wiggins' remarks led to a major backlash from many WNBA players and other sports figures, but she largely stood by them. She did clarify her "98 percent" remark, saying: "It was my way to illustrate the isolation that I felt personally. I felt like the 2 percent versus the 98 percent."[17]

Hmm 😒 🤔 😒

Here's a clip that shows coverage by a news team. Notice how upset the woman is and how she's deeply affected. Obviously, we can see why, but it's interesting the amount of blowback CW received. Decide for yourself.

And those minutes are trending down. Closer to 24 -26 minutes now.
Her lingering back injury has been widely reported so expected. Fewer minutes is probably precautionary to some extent.

The CC super fans would undoubtedly go ballistic if she played more minutes and aggravated the injury under some asinine conspiracy theory that White is out to ruin Clark’s career. I previously read in this forum that White is doing everything in her power to limit Caitlin Clark so the reduced minutes fits that conspiracy also.

Paige saying black women should get the same opportunity as white women while playing in the WNBA is like a hockey player saying white men should get the same opportunity as black men while playing in the NHL.
I don’t know if you are trying to deliberately mislead (given your history of posting erroneous info) but Bueckers was specifically referring to equal opportunities to coach in the WNBA and not opportunities to play as you stated. It is my understanding that there are currently two black WNBA head coaches, both men.

Quit posting erroneous and misleading info.

We DO need more black head coaches in the NFL, because we need to see if they can win a Super Bowl where other white coaches have failed.

Hell get rid of Kevin O'Connell and hire a black coach, see if he can deliver the Vikings a f***ing Super Bowl to the nightmare inducing chagrin of Packers and Bears fans everywhere. Won't know unless you try! 😃

No ones really shocked by that are they? Like I said before, if the W is going to get this figured out and maximize the opportunity given them, its going to take Silver and the owners cleaning house and putting someone in place that doesn't have this "we've all been screwed in the past" bias. Frankly , the horse has been out of the barn for awhile, and much of the opportunity has probably been lost already.

When a league is agenda driven it is nearly impossible to change course.
True enough, but start with Engelbert. Then most of the teams are owned by NBA franchise owners, I believe. Time for them to get involved not only in the product, but who they're hiring to coach and build these teams.

Sounds like she was on the hot seat but the massive CBA bought her more time.

You don't think the owners have been involved this entire time?

Top scoring team (Fever 94 ppg)
-vs-
Top points allowed defense (GS 76 ppg)

Something has to give. The teams have split 1-1 this year with the Fever scoring 90 (W @ Ind) and 88 (L @ GS).

Indiana defense is key to victory IMO.

Terrified to penalize the vets, even under normal scrutiny. This must be a hobby for "The Golf Set" of the WNBA.

And then you have networks like ESPN, the world-wide leader in Woke backing up the league, all the while not asking tough questions. Do they ever challenge league decisions? Hell no. They get parrots to "Justify" crap calls and other savories.
