Higher chance of playing time. Their front court is not very impressive.

It reminds me of his last year at UK when we had Onyenso, Bradshaw, and Ivisic.

They have Frolov, Ourigou, and Semedo, plus he has Bowser and Maker. Bowser played with Wilkins last year at Furman, but is more of a PF, as is Maker.

I like the Furman transfer. The others seem young and inexperienced. Are any of the first year player seen as OAD?

Until Pope proves he is willing to hand the keys over to a Freshmen Point Guard, we can go ahead and just cross any 5 star point guards off the list for landing at UK. No reason to even get excited or discuss it. Those type players aren't coming here to be the backup, even with Mo Williams on the staff.

Now if Pope gives Mason Williams some run at the backup PG as a freshmen, and he balls out some, it could go a long way towards putting us in better positions with point guards going forward in recruiting. But I don't see us landing an elite high school recruit point guard this cycle.

Pope had Lewis committed. Had Lewis balled-out and won the job, he would have started at some point in the season. Knowing what we know now, he would have been our starter soon into the season. But, he was afraid to compete for time.

As an analogy. Mal Moreno came to UK and everyone thought he would get 10 or so minutes in a backup role to Garrison. Within a short time, Moreno was the starter. Win the job with Pope and you win the job.

Lewis was a 4 star and a good get, but he was scared away by Jaaland Lowe of all people. The second it was clear the keys weren't his, decommit. Some dudes want the competition and to earn it, some guys want it promised to them before they ever set foot on campus. Usually top 25ish guys aren't looking for competition for minutes. There are exceptions though.

I guess one philosophy is to guarantee minutes because someone is highly regarded. I would not want to hire a person who thought their resume earned them the starting role. That seems like a bad recipe to me. But, admittedly, others land recruits that way. Watching Sheppard come off the bench at the 3-4 minute mark in every game was a joke, IMO.

Only reason you was scared off by him was because the commitment was already made for him to be the starting point guard Lewis had no idea the dude would get injured. But he knew we had a starting point guard who was working in the combines and working out for NBA teams. Is clear that he wasn’t gonna start with a healthy Lowe.

I like how Bossi explained how Malone was putting in a lot of effort with those two recruits. Meanwhile, Pope and his staff have offered 22 players in the 27 class. Pope is doing the same recruiting he did last year, imo it's not good to recruit like that. You got to make these recruits feel like a priority.

Rosser is likely a UnC lock.

That's an interpretation of how it went, and may very well be true, but highly unlikely it was the ONLY reason as you claim. We should also though add the part about his Dad getting busted for embezzling money during that same stretch and (rumored) his camp wanting to renegotiate their NIL deal because of it. Outlets reporting that Pope doesn't promise starting/playing time (as a negative shot for why he can't recruit), but somehow he had promised Lowe both the starting spot and all the playing time. Acaden reportedly planning up front to be here 2 years when he committed, using his freshmen year to be a backup and learn the system and then start year 2. Had UK landed a SR PG in the portal, he'd have stayed. So was he scared off by the fact Lowe was a JR and would have a second year of eligibility, maybe? That was reported as well. Did Acaden think Lowe would play 40 minutes a game, every game?
