We have to hope Granville is fully recovered and at full strength. We don't need a another Mustipher situation where he never was the player he was after the injury.

Lando. You have some good posts and insight. I criticized you because you constantly keep harping on something that is a matter of opinion and seem hell bent on trying to convince everyone that your opinion is correct and no one else’s does. The bowl games have no value harangue is a perfect example. From your perspective, bowl game results have no value since it isn’t the playoffs. That’s valid based on how you define value. Other posters also validly feel that having extra practices, playing another game and winning any game is valuable especially for young players has value as they define it.
I’m right there with you on the lack of enthusiasm for the upcoming season. I’m sure it will get there by the opening game.
You had me until you claimed winning a bowl game is valuable...I agree with the rest. The win doesn't mean anything. Just like when we lost with opt outs I didn't criticize the loss. They are what they are. I just wish we accepted that because is caring about a bowl outcome is unfair to the playes and coaches. You can be happy for Terry last year without thinking the outcome was meaningful.
I just want to be clear: I don't mean he better win this year or he gets fired. He should at least get half as long as Franklin got to prove himself. I mean he better win this year to make his life easier going forward.
I am more confident in the experienced DTs. More experienced than Granville and Kemanjou.
I think both those DE’s have a bright future at PSU, but fwiw it is Ezeogu getting the rave reviews in preseason.
Outside of the games versus Michigan, USC, and Washington the schedule looks easy.
I don't think we go 0-3 in those games. I like us vs USC in a probable WO game. USC does not play that well traveling east.

I am a little concerned about our first two B10 games. We have a new team without a ton of experience at some key positions like DE. Although we do have an experienced QB. Nevertheless, we are essentially melding two teams together and that can create issues especially early in the season.

They also have a new O-Line coach and will focus on being more physical than they have been under Fickell. The good news is we should be more physical under Campbell.
The Fri night game vs Northwestern is a tricky one. Feels like it could be an upset special with the breaking in of their new stadium. They now have Chip Kelly at OC and....wait for it....the illustrious Jerry Neuheisel at QB coach. Bad karma there!
Obviously I hope we navigate these two games unscathed and enter the USC game undefeated but it is not a given.
I would love to see 10-2 (or better) but my realist self says 9-3.

My gut tells me that win or lose each in-game thread will have psychological breakdowns from several posters.

This team has many questions. So many transfers from other programs. Some of them were good contributors and others never proved all that much.
Whenever your quarterback misses much of the spring and is coming back from surgery you have to question what you have at the position. If they have to go to a backup things could get ugly fast. The receivers are another unproven group, though the quality has been so bad the last couple of years anything will likely be an improvement. The offensive line is in a rebuild.
Defensive line looks like a mish mash of new people and guys who havent proven they are starters. Linebacker has a mixture of guys coming back with questions and new people. Defensive backs should be decent.
If this team wins nine games it is a very successful season. Less than seven and it will not be surprising, though it will be a disappointment. I see eight wins, a bowl game and a fan base split as to whether the coach is the man we hope he is.

Well, beating OSU used to be a necessity to making it to the four team playoff; once that stopped it's now all about record. Which is funny, since James couldn't win big games, but could put up good records. Ah well.
Anything short of 11 and 2 with a playoff win is falling short.

He exhibited very good play with the very limited reps he received and the coaches spoke highly of his game and practice film. We shall see this year if it's hype or he can make meaningful contributions.

I think NW is gonna be a problem. They have no fear after last year and a lot of key offensive players back at RB and WR. They play feisty and are more than capable. Throw in the new stadium, raucous crowd, and our new staff, I think it is a dogfight.
Based on your comment above I think there will be a lot of disappointment. I really don’t see 11-2 happening even with this schedule. So many variables. A key injury can take us down a bad path so quickly.
