Our memorable Coach K who was the D line coach and left for Nebraska was on a recent sports talk show in Nebraska and he said Ferentz was offered Notre Dame and declined and that is when Brian Kelly accepted the job. His main points were around Bo Pelini and the then AD though, but this was a side note about Kirk.

I absolutely believe he probably had a shot at the job. He was fresh of the 09 season and orange bowl victory. A couple B1G championships in the same decade.
Now was there and actual offer? Who knows. I haven't watched the video, but I'd think there would have been an interview in order to lead to an offer. Doubt Notre Dame was just throwing out a job offer without interviewing.

Yep and still way under appreciated by far too many.
Kirk was a hot commodity when we beat the gamecocks in a bowl game. Interviewers kept asking about his possible move to the NFL after the game. Wouldn't surprise me if a school like Notre Dame called.
Michigan reached out to KF in 2007. It was one of the first calls made. Most Michigan fans will claim we never offered...but that is a technicality because he said no before an official offer was made. It is one of the reasons I became interested in following KF's career.
He would win several NCs at Michigan with his same program model and
Culture but with 4 and 5 star talent and Michigan nil money.
Phil Steele who really knows college football recently stated in his 26 preview that KF is one of the very best coaches in the country. Football people know this. We have idiot trolls spouting nonsense.

KF obviously is one of the best coaches of all time. Who else would've had the guts to hire his own son, with no experience at all, as OC and then, when he kept failing and turned Iowa into the worst offense in the country, KF doubled down and made his son QB coach as well as OC. Iowa is still trying to recover from one of the most egregious examples of nepotism in the history of college football. And BF would still be the OC/QB coach if AD Beth Goetz hadn't fired him.
When they build the statue to KF, they should have Phil Parker and Norm Parker holding him up, because those are the guys who won football games in spite of KF. (And I won't even mention the Black players' lawsuit, the rhabdo fiasco, and various other issues.)

Yes, Phil and Norm do/did great things, but not despite KF. With him. He hired them. They flourished in his program. They loved it enough to stay around a long time.

In the first decade of this century a lot of NFL teams inquired about Kirk making the jump. Barta gave him the big raise to keep him in Iowa. He loves Iowa City and has been well paid. His kids also grew up in one town, which is unusual in coaching circles- that was important to him.

He must have liked Kirk as he pretty much states as much in the podcast. Said it was like family. I will always remember that dude just ripping on the D linemen when they would come off the field. Clayborn was one. Just swearing up a storm at them. Not Kirk like at all. That was back in the day when we didn't rotate D linemen nearly as much.
There's been talk of mutiny in 2010 DL room regarding Kaczenski..I have no insider knowledge, but I remember people posting about players taking it to KF

I remember hearing of something similar. I will also add that the 2010 Minnesota loss is the only time I feel Iowa really quit on the coaches. Maybe the 2007 Western Michigan game, but I have never watched that game (I didn’t have BTN that first year).2010....such a disappointing season.
Petty funny because he's VERY respected by his peers as well as pretty much everybody in the league and yet we have "fans" on here that belittle him. Maybe ask Norm and Phil what they think of "the Captain" and his having nothing to do with those 208 wins or whatever it is, Ever think Kirks style of play benefits our defense, and just maybe he influenced the schemes they run. I don't believe Phil had ever been a coordinator before, and he idolizes Kirk. But hey, what does he know.....
Didn’t have a huge issue with the swearing, we sit close enough to have listened to Bielema, Kac, etc. it was the fact that he didn’t coach with it. Nothing positive.
