I agree w/ Banks and Harris.

Hot take but I don't care. I couldn't stand Smoot, reminded me too much of "Prime Time Neon Deion" Sanders. Nothing wrong at all w/ his play, I admired that. But, I couldn't stand his mouth running.

Banks has to be on the list because he won Jim Thorpe Award
Second spot is Walt Harris or Robert Bean - I thought Bean was better than Smoot the year they played together.

The only reason Hadad put Smoot in the top 2 is because he was scared of being called out again by Smoot.

Normally, I would agree with you. But Smoot could back up his trash talk, and he was just danged funny. He supposed to have told some Vandy wide out "I hear ya'll real smart up at Vandy. Tell you what, you do my homework, and I'll let you catch a pass".

A urban legend Smoot quote that may not be true, but this would be just like him
Background first that you youngsters may not know - Smoot signed with Ole Miss out of high school & had to go to juco due to academics & then signed with MSU out of Hunds
As the legendary 1999 comeback win at Auburn with first year head coach Tommy Tubberville is ending, Smoot runs by TT & screams "That is for you 17ing the whole state of Mississippi".

This is an incredibly hard list to pick from because of all the names listed. And while he’s not been on teams with a lot of wins, Kelley Jones is an incredible talent and is deserving of being included in these conversations. He could absolutely rise to the top of these lists after this year.

@Brian Hadad list

1. Fred Smoot
2. Jonathan Banks

my list:
1. Walt Harris
2. Jonathan Banks

HM - Emmanuel Forbes, Fred Smoot, Robert Bean, Darius Slay, Martin Emerson
Walt Harris and Fred Smoot easy. If you want to dock Smoot for longevity, you have a tough call on who is 2nd. Darius Slay kinda falls in same boat. I think it needs to be Banks with INT school record with Harris and the Thorpe. One name I haven’t seen who was pretty damn good was Izell McGill.
