”The University of Michigan's regents are expected to discuss an investigation into the culture of its athletic department on Thursday, sources told ESPN. As part of the review, a decision on the future of athletic director Warde Manuel is anticipated in the coming days.

A university spokesman told ESPN on Sunday that the school had nothing to report and declined further comment.

Michigan commissioned the investigation in December following the firing of football coach Sherrone Moore for having an "inappropriate relationship with a staff member."

After being fired earlier that month by Manuel, Moore drove to the home of staff member Paige Shiver and confronted her. He was arrested and later agreed to a plea deal for misdemeanor malicious use of a telecommunications device and misdemeanor trespassing.

The incident was the latest controversy for the high-profile athletic department, including numerous NCAA violation cases, an illegal in-person scouting scandal involving staff member Connor Stalions and federal charges against former offensive coordinator Matt Weiss for felony aggravated identity theft and unauthorized access to computers. Weiss has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial in September.

The long-anticipated report, from the Chicago law firm Jenner & Block, has cost over $11 million and is expected to be comprehensive.”

This is what we’re up against.

I'm sure everything was found to be just fine. They were all Michigan Men.

Time will tell, but I have a feeling Ward M may not want to send out any dry cleaning.
The only thing that might save him might be if it costs Michigan a lot of cash to fire him.

Could this be for cause and negate, or re-set, any buyout?

Prediction: Michiganistan will spend less on their multiple nasty scandals, and the expensive “blue” ribbon report will not in any way make things worse for them than Louis “Fact” Freeh did for PSU. The Freeh “Report” was the gift that kept on taking.

Definitely could be, but I don't know the specifics of what their investigation found.

Also:
I have no idea if there is a buy out (though I expect there likely is one), nor what any potential amount might be (I have never researched it - maybe that info is out there, or maybe not). I would suppose there probably is - only because those things have become fairly typical.

Secondly, many Universities are more concerned with "appearances" (probably a better term for that, but you get the gist), than they are about spending OPM. And may choose to have the appearance of an amicable split, rather than a contentious one (that is just my considered thoughts).

I do have reason to believe the Michigan trustees are not thrilled with the profile of the athletic department in recent years. They (the U Michigan trustees) do seem to care about the level of competence expressed through the actions of University leadership though - which might put Ward M on thin ice.

That list - put together by an MSU guy - is ridiculous.

Michigan certainly has had some significant issues under Manuel (I am neither surprised nor saddened that he is finally being cut loose), but that list is idiocy.

Most of them are far less "scandalous" than the "who cares" Abdul Carter tow truck driver incident - and, good Lord, could you imagine what they would make of "2 FB Players standing trial for on campus rapes"?
Just an MSU guy throwing a lot of nonsense against the wall.

The burying of the Paige Shriver stuff, and the Conner Stallions stuff are very significant issues for Michigan Athletics leadership (and University-wide leadership) IMO, but the rest is mostly nonsense.
